One of the main things that the series is constantly driving home is that Subaru isn't some special shonen manga MC but relatively normal besides his insane mental fortitude. So it seems pretty fitting to me that his past is simply that kind of normal and realistic problem and not the tragic backstory of a shonen manga character like Naruto and Sasuke or Ichigo or Todoroki Shoto. His problem was a big problem to him but it was a pretty normal thing and he basically already resolved it in "From Zero" last season. Things in life didn't go as he expected, he felt like he didn't measure up to the expectations that people would have of the son of his "amazing father" and eventually he sunk into depression and stopped going to school and he was trapped in that hole and couldn't get out.

2022-05-01 18:37:02 +0000 UTCAlright, to answer a few questions: Currently, there are only 2 seasons. Season 1 was released in 2016 and 4 years later season 2 dropped. The first season covered 3 arcs and the second season covers only 1 arc (arc 4 since it's the longest). The anime is adapted from the light novel which is still being published, hence the large break between seasons, and arc 5 has only been finished recently. The Author has planned out 11 arcs. Fun fact: season 2 was originally supposed to start airing on Subaru's birthday, April 1st, and finish on Emila's birthday, September 23rd, but then 2020 decided to happen. Technically I only answered one question.
