Well, I mean it was obvious foreshadowing that Gohan was going to to be the main fighter against Cell. All the training montages, Goku specifically training Gohan since the saga started even before androids showed up. I think Trunks has to fix his timeline. In the main timeline he is truly just a messenger.

2022-07-12 10:04:19 +0000 UTCI think in the same way you argue that this isn't Gohan fights even though future trunks was the one who inspired trunks, you can argue this isn't trunks fight either. This isn't his timeline, because Goku never dies and the z fights are still there unlike in his time it remains their fight.
