Oh don't worry there's a season 2 with Kouga, and there're some movies that fit between the seasons, you'll have to finish that before going into season 2 so that you can understand the story in timeline order. Also, if I remember correctly, you're right about that GARO was meant to be only one season, but since its unique visual style and intriguing fantasy world-building, it gets popular they continue producing more seasons.
