Grapefruit Tree

"What is the point in taking self-portraits?" I ask myself sometimes when I am overthinking. "Do I seem conceited because I take pictures of myself?"

My Positive Outlook: One day I won't look like this anymore; one day I won't be here, but these pictures will remain. People will remember that I enjoyed working behind and in front of my camera. They are memories of me on earth, seeing the world through my eyes.

It isn't just a push of a button, it is presenting my beauty in a subtle way that took work to accomplish:

Manual settings are always best - knowing your white balance by feel because you understand how light affects this and that.

I usually go for a lower shutter speed if my camera is on a tripod and know to hold still, because I like to have a high f-stop for my self-portraits.

Seeing where the best background is for nice composition.

Spotting distractions and avoiding them.

Thinking about your pose and knowing the best placement, not to throw off the composition.

All these things come into consideration and more... and why I think self-portraits are challenging and not to be misperceived as conceited. That "push of a button" actually took a lot of work to make it look effortless!
