Cannon has been very vocal about not liking Ymir for the beginning. But I see where your coming from, just different opinion

The dozens of reactors I've watched have never had this type of opinion. The difference between your reactions and theirs? They didn't have someone who has ALREADY SEEN THE SHOW (ahem, Brig) basically subconsciously convincing them to hate a character before their story even developed. Without him yapping about his hate for her everytime she was on screen, I'm sure you would have come to a different conclusion. From now on y'all... maybe you should keep your opinions of certain characters to yourselves if you have already seen a show. You were able to come to an organic opinion on a character yourself, so why are you robbing them of the same thing?

In the small picture she just wants to be with the person who makes her happy and it's hard for me to fault her for that, and in the bigger picture knowing what she does she's not really making a bad call either.

Usually it gets me in the right mood to watch the show. With AoT there is even information you can learn from OPs and EDs, that you wouldn't learn about otherwise or at a much later point.

I still think their reaction is normal because on my brothers first watch-through he found Ymir and Christa annoying. But on our MANY rewatches he loves both of those characters cause he understands them better

2023-02-06 05:24:37 +0000 UTCI think Ymir is really misunderstood- She's really interesting and her desire to protect Christa/Historia makes a lot of sense. Even with limited context, Reiner basically told her there was no future for anyone within the walls, and given what she knows she definitely believed that. Especially since, at the time, she didn't know Eren was the coordinate. She had to lie about it being for her sake because she knows Christa still won't live for herself- she had to make sure she came with them without it being so she could save her, because Christa wouldn't save herself. There's a lot of nuance to her choices which I honestly appreciate, way more than Eren who is probably the least nuanced character in the entire season ^^;; So her parts as well as Reiner and Bertholdt's are the most interesting to ponder over and their characters definitely require a lot more subtext reading. But I've rambled enough- I'll look forward to the commentary! There are plenty of amazing moments during this season and plenty more to come.

There’s so many layers to this show that your second time is basically a brand new experience. The layered-details in this show are as small as a characters eye-contact in certain scenes/conversations they’re listening to without a word. It’s insane.

It’s just another flash-forward / after-credit scene, which there’s several of throughout the series, that enhances the story-experience. I watched it my first time through, and in retrospect, it was one of the craziest experiences of the entire show, topped by only one or two others. I’d like to see their reaction to it, just my thoughts. It’s their decision in the end; I’m down with whatever they wanna do!

2023-02-05 18:39:23 +0000 UTCI agree, they shouldn't watch it...I think they added that in the end to build up suspense for the next part (part 2) of season 3 (i.e., hype it up) for anime onlies, and it was a tipping of the hat to the manga readers to know what to expect. In short, I think it was more of a marketing decision than anything to include it (Isayama did not reveal that scene before the events actually unfolded in the original story/manga) and if these guys will be watching part 2 immediately anyway, then there is no point in watching that end credit scene. I agree it will dampen their experience (I actually did not like the fact that they did that in the anime. One of those times when I am glad I read the manga - it ruins the suspense further down in the story).

I must say, reading a chapter monthly is a very interesting experience and it is always great to enjoy discussions that accompany it (as there are no hints available, the theory crafting is crazy!!). It definitely beats waiting for months or even years for the next season and to his credit, Isayama has been a consistent writer releasing chapters every month without a break. Also, this show is so spoiler heavy that I was spoiled on at least 3 major points and was so frustrated that I wanted to read the story myself before anyone could spoil it (I feel bad for those who do get spoiled, it is NOT pleasant!!). Also, shoutout to Filmbuff - love his AoT and Vinland Saga content!

I was no different. AoT just creates those moments of hopelessness so well. And as Carter said, he was just having an existential crisis. Then McKay just smiling and looking at the camera just relishing in their ignorance of what's to come. Can't wait for end of season discussions after they've digested everything. Also can't wait for S3P2.

While it might not "directly" spoil a major plotpoint, it most certainly gives away too much information and it would ruin the buildup to that scene. I don't get why some people think they would need the 100% full context to that scene in order for it to be considered a spoiler. You can more or less call it a teaser trailer for S3 part 2, which is something I imagine both Carter and Cannon want to avoid.

The "what I caught in my second rewatch" videos. It would be amazing to see what hints you're seeing, what foreshadowing is there, how things are recontextualized knowing what you know now. I mean, even Cannon and Carter were saying they saw things differently when they watched parts of the old videos with new people. It's huge. Even just the Bertholt, Annie, and Reiner interactions in season 1 hit different. That could be a really fun secondary video series if you're interested. And I'd watch stuff with the new people you guys mentioned sharing it with as well if that ever becomes a thing

Because of non stop watching I didn’t have time to theorise myself and I missed out lots of information leading to me feeling very confused in season 4 and I even thought character’s decision was not making sense whatsoever. I actually started watching AOT reactions out of the curiosity of ‘why everyone says this is the best show, the writing is so messy’🤣 Not until I rewatched with reactors like LM, Filmbuff and Autosave and finally noticed a lot of details I was missing and learn to appreciate the show. Now I’m a die heart AOT fan haha

It literally spoils that there will be an altercation between those 3 on the roof. Them seeing will let them know that those 3 will make it all through the BS that happens in s3part2. It's really crazy to me how people don't understand this. Have we all completely lost our ability to infer shit or trust others' ability to infer? However, from my perspective, I think watching it was a part of my experience of the show. But still, that scene was just to hype up s3 part 2 because at that time viewers had to wait for it to release but now they can just watch s3 part 2 right away so I reckon it’s totally fine even if they didn’t watch that.

2023-02-05 15:50:12 +0000 UTCI understand your frustration with Ymir and Christa/Historia...these last couple of episodes have two parallel themes. One one hand, they are digging a little into the mysteries and questions of the show, on the other hand, there is the question of imminent death and survival of the soldiers given they are in titan territory. Watching Erwin lose his arm and just chaos everywhere, a part of viewers would be more interested in the latter theme than the dilemmas of characters like Ymir as their own internal conflict is not helping the rescue of Eren or the survival of the soldiers. A good rule of thumb I find is that it is ok to feel frustration for some characters, or even not like them, but just remember their actions/words - this way if you want, you can also make certain connections in the future and see if you change your mind. I think Cannon did that for Levi in season 1 as well... so it is good that you guys have an open mind!

Both her and Historia's dialogue and motivations are all pretty interesting, it's just that's in the middle of action scenes that, at that moment, I'd rather focus on.

I loved rhetorical Erwin reactions, he's such a good character. His little tense moments with Levi when they find out titans are people, and you see Levi being appalled by the revelation while Erwin smiles, that's just so good. Speaks to why they are both doing this, and how they are in it for very different reasons. Bertholdt's plea for someone to "find them" is another moment that makes no sense right now but just screams of desperation.

They want the audience to have a drop of future information at the time, but without any context at all - which happens countless times throughout this series as a whole. It's part of AoT's identity. Trust the writer; that's my two cents.

Plus, freeze frame right as the guy is kicking Ymir off. What's in his hand? ( When this was airing live, weekly, we used to go back and look at stuff like that to tease out secrets) What is that in his hand and what does the sound made right before it tell you about what's happening? - Ymir talking to herself about whether she should go with Reiner or the scouts and what she's trying to get out of the situation.

She was so hard on Historia but that was because she wanted her to embrace who she was and to live her life without lies. Because Ymir did the opposite of that by lying about her identity and she paid the ultimate price for it by being a titan for 60 years. I thought she was a selfish character in the beginning, but her sacrificing herself to go with Reiner and Bertholdt because she understands their situation and doesn't want them to go back empty-handed makes her one of the least selfish characters imo.

It's one of the reasons this show has so many reactions, it's all about giving details ahead of time, giving spoilers to the viewer but not at all because they can't been understood at the time they are given. If you take all of those details, scenes, dialogues and also post credits, would it really be a better show?

I do remember being aggravated with Ymir and Historia’s relationship and that it didn’t really answer any questions but having a Birds Eye view I understand why Isayama did it that way. Also that scene where Eren punched the smiling titan was absolutely insane. As always I can’t wait for more content, great reactions and happy watching 😁

Eren having a mental breakdown is so heartbreaking to watch and it’s so sad to think that Mikasa thought they were actually going to die hence why she confessed her feelings. I love how her words helped him regain his strength and confidence. Him punching a titan with his bare hands and promising to wrap the scarf around her forever makes me so emotional every single time. Great reaction as always guys. Can’t wait for season 3!

They are both 10/10 for me personally though!

Suddenly you can make assumptions about how parts of the battle will go since you know that credit scene still has to happen. It's lame and was only put there to hype people because of the long wait between part s3part1 and part 2. Wait for the real reaction in the actual episode not whats basically a spoiler reaction.

2023-02-05 07:35:17 +0000 UTCI know one of you guys brought it up very briefly but a huge MISCONCEPTION about this episode is that a few people believe that Eren can't transform because he doesn't have a clear goal in his mind. That is false, he couldn't transform because his body was still healing/regenerating (he had a couple fingers left). Also Reiner didn't think Eren was the Coordinate right away, the first time the word Coordinate is brought up is when he's wondering if he is or isn't the Coordinate. Would love to see you guys react to the opening now that you're done with the season

The way the music ramps up as eren delivers that badass line to mikasa and then you get hit with the most unexpected plot twist possible. It's just so good. What I love about this show is just when you think something is about to happen the show hits you with something you never would have even considered RIP Hannes man. Now we know that if he tried to fight the smiling titan in episode 1, he would have died along with probably Eren and Mikasa. I think at the end he realized he made the right choice by dipping out with them Also a funny piece of info about this episode: Apparently Eren and Mikasa were supposed to kiss here but the creator of the series, Hajima Isayama, was too embarassed to draw it
