Yeah agreed, very relatable. At this point in the story, the viewer is essentially narratively-whiplashed from having so much thrown at them in such a short time. Some of which is missing context so we’re also as confused as our POV characters, but we still get the full-blown emotional response. I like how the story is intentionally overwhelming here. Makes the payoffs to come have 10x more impact.

I get what you're saying as far as this season goes, but season 4 not so much, or at least there's far less of it than in this season. I do still enjoy it BECAUSE of the way this season uses the hierarchy as a means to uncover secrets. It does take a slow turn and drag on for a bit but for the most part with episodes that are like that, you can kinda zone out and just pay attention to what's being said simply because of how much this season reveals. But totally get what you mean, I just like seeing if people can really pick up on the fine print

The only issue I have is how little of it he got exposed to. What would've happened if he had injected the entire dose of the spinal fluid instead of taking just a little bit of it? I'm just being pedantic, in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter. Does the transformation take longer or shorter? Does it affect the titan's size, speed, agility, strength, etc..? Does it just affect the first formation? After which if you eat someone with the Power of the titans, then you get the full power... It sort of implies that dosage doesn't matter.

how I always saw the injection vs ingestion thing is that rod had cuts in his mouth from the knife, so he was able to get it into his blood stream through that. Also as you guys have already seen in the next episode his transformation wasn't normal, so injection is probably just the safest way to do it, and doing it improperly could be dangerous

Given everything Eren's gone through, seeing him so emotionally broken was heartbreaking to me. It's only been less than two months since he found out he was a titan if I'm not mistaken. As a kid, he had a fierce albeit naive sense of determination to wipe out the titans but then he finds out that he himself is a titan, the very thing that he hates. That along with witnessing the deaths of his comrades, being betrayed by his close friends, and learning how to use his titan powers would have to be mentally and physically taxing, especially for a 15-year-old. And now he finds out that he ate his own father, who stole the power of the titans from the Reiss family and then murdered nearly everyone. He believes that if the titan power was handed back to the family, they could use it to its full potential. Eren is really only living for one thing; to defeat the titans. If he believed his death would lead to that, why wouldn't he want it? At that moment, he's suicidal and feels immense shame and guilt and I can't help but sympathize and feel sorry for him. Poor dude’s really going through it.

But for me the slow-paced political stuff is some of the most engaging and nuanced parts of attack on titan. They exist to unveil the true mystery behind it all and compliment the more action-heavy parts very well. As a package, season 3 part 1 and 2 go very well together; and the same goes for season 4. The more political first parts build to and contextualise the fast-paced second parts. Without the slower parts alot of character moments and plot revelations are lost (especially in season 4)

At least in this show we don’t see people randomly drink spinal fluid and became a titan right away 🤣

This is not 100% confirmed BUT this is an answer that make whole lot of sense regarding to the ‘injecting vs drinking spinal fluid’ question. See, what a syringe do to you is it pokes a little hole on your body and goes into your blood stream right? So the spinal fluid has to directly contact the blood for it to work. And for Historia’s father (Rod Resis), you see Kenny put the knife into his mouth earlier in this episode, and you can clearly see he got blood in his mouth. So when Rod Resis licked the spinal fluid, what actually happened there is the spinal fluid had direct contact with his blood which made it work. So, the MAIN POINT here is the spinal fluid has to directly and immediately contact the blood in order for the person to turn into a titan. Hope this answers your questions ^^

Haha, all questions and when we get answers even more questions - love it! Just a few observations - (1) I am not sure what the confusion is about using ODM in the cave? That crystal is the same kind that Annie ensconced herself in, but I don't think the Survey Corps want to risk doing anything to her crystal lest they kill her (also, they haven't had the time to do anything since capturing her given the events of season 2 and season 3 so far); (2) Whatever Rod is saying, Eren can corroborate with his memory, so at least that part makes sense and we can consider that to be the truth; (3) A note on Rod's charater - I think, we can surmise from Rod's exposition that the Founding Titan (another titan name drop!) seems to possess extraordinary powers. Some individuals do not prefer to be in the driver's seat, i.e., in a position of high responsibility. He even calls that power 'God', meaning it indeed is a very high stakes position. He says 'it is his duty to bring that power back and offer his prayers to it', which may be taken to mean that he merely wishes to be in the role of the head priest and not in the role of God if we are to take that analogy further. However, when even Historia refuses to do it, we see that he resolves to do it himself, to fulfill his duty as a member of the Reiss family. He may be a coward, but I think he is scared to shoulder such a big responsibility. Instead he is forcing it upon Historia which obviously isn't correct either.

Nah I think the main reason is because like one of them said, if rod injects it, there's no one left to guide future generations of the reiss family regarding the ritual and secrets. He's the last person left that knows a lot more secrets regarding the titans, the power and the walls (since his brother and dad both had the power). Historia is just as clueless as eren at the moment so once rod gets eaten theres no one left to guide them. Also on another note, I don't think there's that many bad people in the series. Its just different viewpoints. You see in the flashback both rod and his brother wanted to save humanity but their dad didn't do anything. It doesn't make sense now but the questions will all be answered in the future. This is a really good episode to rewatch after understanding everything. The episode itself doesn't make much sense but after you watch the series this episode makes much more sense.

I have 3 important things to say: 1. Not sure if you guys paid attention to this bit of information, I didn't hear anyone acknowledge it, but Rod Reiss gave important info when he was telling Historia that she needs to eat Eren. He states that Historia needs to specifically ingest Eren's spinal fluid. This is why the titan back in episode 5 did not revert back into a human when it ate Eren, it didn't chew its food and swallowed. 2. As a few people have already mentioned, the reason why the serum/liquid is injected instead of ingested is because it evaporates when exposed to air. After Historia breaks the syringe and Rod Reiss is slumped on the floor you can see it evaporating quite quickly. That's why it can't be presented to Historia in a cup. 3. The last info is about the importance of the Reiss family (the true royal family) and the Founding titan power (the Coordinate, they stop addressing it as the Coordinate from here on out). Not sure how this got past you guys but the whole reason why Kenny wanted Eren to fight Historia is because of what Rod Reiss said about the Founding titan. He tells Historia that only the royal family is capable of accessing the power of the Founding titan/Coordinate.
