These seem to be brainless zombies just stomping the world, so Hange was able to take them out. You saw she burned, but in the past this burning effect started sooner because they were actively emitting steam / heat to increase the destruction.

So I guess it kind of prepared me emotionally for the loss of Hange and I wasn't too emotional when it happened. I know she was forced to sacrifice herself for the rest of crew to escape (because of Floch), but she went out in a literal blaze of glory. You couldn't have asked for a better death. And in the moments leading up to it, we saw glimpses of the old Hange, who was so excited about riding the Cart titan. The episode was fulfulling. I didn't feel frustrated with the cliffhanger because there was so much that happened in the episode and expecting it to end soon without the final battle. (Though, can't say the same about Mandalorian 3x1, ugh, that was too short for me). I just wished Crunchyroll had better communicated the release time of the episode. I definitely could've been more productive with my time. There should've been some sort of message explaining that they have to wait for the Japan broadcast before they can start adding subtitles, which would take a while considering it was a 1 hour long special.

I thought more characters would vilify and blame Eren for this calamity, but a lot of them felt responsible. Hange, the scouts, Kiyomi, the commander at Fort Salta - all placed some blame on themselves for making this happen. “It’s my fault” they think, but really, everyone is responsible and no one is to blame.

Seeing their interactions pre-time skip, you could tell he had some interest in her and hearing how he would visit her constantly and talk with her was enough in my book. I don’t think you have to see every moment for it to be good. I feel like the subtle moments makes it better. It also gave some much needed lightheartedness to the chaos and turmoil. I can definitely see where you are coming from though and not everyone has to like it. :>

In an interview he did last month, he said this about the anime: “There are things I'm not completely happy with in the manga, and so I talk to the animation team about it. That's where the differences between the manga and the anime come from, but that doesn't mean I think the anime is the final form, it's just different. 2023-03-04 06:25:25 +0000 UTCThe reason is that we never really got to see Armin going to speak with Annie except for once. this connection would have been a lot more meaningful if they had emphasized him being drawn to her more during season 4. It's the same reason why Conny taking Falco to his mom felt so out of nowhere and no more than a plot device to get him and Armin to Annie. We were only TOLD that Conny had been visiting his mom for years, but we didn't SEE it or any of the emotions that would have made him want to feed Falco to his mom. I think both of these ideas, Armin and Annie, Conny and Falco, were good but they just weren't fleshed out enough.

Check out the comparison of episode 1 and this episodes readaption. WIT STUDIO didn't include the "I'll see you later, Eren" which is LITERALLY the beginning two panels of the manga. But I'm glad it's in here. Goosebumps and cried a little. THANK YOU MAPPA

Even though the cycle of violence and hatred will always continue, we have to try our best not to perpetuate it and even if we can't, we have to keep trying. And that's exactly what the scouts are trying to do. Because they actually had a hand in furthering the Rumbling by helping Eren get to Zeke. A major theme in Aot has always been about making choices that one thinks they will regret the least. Stopping Eren is a decision that may or may not work out in their favor, but they just don't want to regret not stopping a genocide, which is completely understandable. The scouts represent what the Survey Corps stands for: fighting against insurmountable odds for even the slightest chance of an unrealistic idealist world.

Eren actually said the exact same dialogue back in Season 1 Episode 13 titled Primal Desire. It's one of my favorite callbacks of the entire series. How fitting is it that he says this as he looks out at the view of clouds before him blissfully ignorant of the carnage and devastation below and the fact that he's depicted as a child is indicative of that ignorance. Him reverting back to his child self is a coping mechanism for him to move forward.
