I agree with Gabi escaping jail, that was pretty convenient, but how is Hange getting info out of Sannes an issue? She psychologically manipulated and tortured him, it’s perfectly believable and thematically consistent. You must not have payed much attention to Sannes’ plot line if you think it was convenient lol. As for Levi putting a thunder spear in Zeke I think you’re being obtuse. He just had to kill 30 of his soldiers, he’s incredibly emotional and not in a clear state of mind. On top of that he’s very illogical when it comes to Zeke because of his intense hatred for him. He also sees him as a coward, and basically makes a bad bet that Zeke wouldn’t want to die (something he later acknowledges as a mistake). In fact we see this multiple times, including when Levi actually *spoiler* kills Zeke. He’s driven by emotions, not logic. I really don’t see enough reason to call the writing of AOT ‘naive’. It does have its fair share of plot convenient moments and redundancies, but importantly you don’t tend to notice most of them straight away. The narrative elements work together so well that the holes or divots don’t distract you or subtract too much from the overall value of the experience. That’s what makes stories great. Virtually every narrative is ‘naive’ otherwise. In my opinion AOT doesn’t substantially deviate from the norm of any other work of fiction. Also, the only time Isayama didn’t live up to the ideas of attack on titan was really in the last two chapters or so. Literally everything up until then is mostly cohesive and well thought out. Not trying to be an a-hole, I do think there’s PLENTY to criticise about AOT (as is the case with anything), I just think your points aren’t great.

2024-09-28 12:51:45 +0000 UTCThere is some weird bullshit convenient stuf in attack on titan, and Levi putting a thunderspear to Zeke to keep him in check is one of the worst. There was no need for that, he just endangered himself needlessly. I remembered reading this when it came out as a scan and everyone pretty much agreed to that. Isayama can write some crazy stuf but I feel like he easily falls for plot conveniences. One of the weakest points of Attack On Titan. Think about how Gabi and Falco escaped from jail, or how Hange got stuf out of Sannes. Just such fucking stupid resolutions. Then again this naivety in the writing of Attack On Titan is also a reason why people love the show so much, myself included. Problem is that the final arc of Attack On Titan has this use of convenient resolutions pushed to such an extreme that it becomes completely ridiculous and destroyes all suspension of disbelief. Isayama is a man of ideas but sometimes his writing just doesn't live up to the genius of those ideas, and that's a shame.

2024-09-16 22:51:04 +0000 UTC-There's an interesting hidden meaning in Floch's name. His full name is Floch Forster Forster (German): someone who lived and worked in a forest. Last episode (Children of the Forest) establishes the idea that humanity is trapped in a "forest" where we believe the only solution to our problems is death and violence, leading to endless conflict. Sasha's father argues that it's the duty of the adults to get the next generation out of the forest, as that's the only way to prevent history from continuing to repeat itself. In this episode, we see Floch dragging the next generation into the "forest" by forcing the new cadets to brutally attack a defenseless soldier. Unnecessary violence is made a requirement, and those that refuse are punished with imprisonment. "Savagery" is a fitting title for this episode. The Eldian Empire had a long history of brutal acts of death and destruction. The Yeagerists are now following in their footsteps, repeating the same mistakes.

2024-06-24 03:40:26 +0000 UTCThey didn't want to take the founder from eren until after he attacked marley. OG plan was a sample of the rumbling to scare the world and buy enough time to catch up to other nations technologically so that the rumbling was no longer necessary, while making sure to pass the beast titan down the royal bloodline so the rumbling can happen if it needs to.

2024-02-18 09:24:03 +0000 UTCIt's not really about saving the world. It's about not giving rise to more eldian generations who will suffer the anguish of being a titan people (like what they're going thru now). Some want to kill them, some want to exploit them. Their lives tend to royally suck.

2024-02-03 18:32:38 +0000 UTCI get the point about cruelty due to human nature. But think about it, a cruel human with a devastating weapon is a lot worse than one without. Just like how a crazy nation with titan weapons will wreak much more destruction than one without. Yes war will always happen. But do you think a war with stick and stones as weapons will cause same damages as one using nuclear weapons.

2023-03-16 10:38:25 +0000 UTCMarley's defeat at Shiganshina shook the world. To Marley, and the world, the island is insignificant. It's just some penal colony of helpless, poor, crazy Eldians. No one thought that this pathetic prison colony of Paradis had ANY chance of fighting back against Marley. Marley sent their Warriors to retrieve the Founder's power and collect the island's resources for it's military value. They thought this Founding Titan power was keeping the people docile through King Fritz's will (Though, I guess only the Tyburs would know this, not Marley). No one knew that Grisha Jaeger had infiltrated the walls, and that he found the location of the Founding Titan and stole it. No one knew that he gave that power to his son. No one had knowledge that the people within the walls were developing technologies such as ODM Gear and Thunder Spears to perfect Titan killing. No one knew that the military would use Eren, their newfound Titan weapon, to fight back against their attackers. Eventually, the army of Paradis was led to Shiganshina in the hopes of finding information left behind by Grisha Jaeger, and for a final confrontation to reclaim their city against Marley's 4 Titan powers. Zeke was only pretending to be sided with Marley. In his mind, he was doing what he needed to do to get his hands on the Founder's power. Pretending to be fighting to give it to Marley, when in reality he wants it for his own plans to alter Eldian anatomy. He regrets that the people of Paradis are fighting back. He thinks they have been manipulated to fight a hopeless fight for the sake honor and to die for a greater purpose (Remember Erwin's conflict with himself calling himself a 'conman'?). No one is taking this uprising on Paradis seriously because their odds of success are so inconceivably low. Zeke's like "These people could have lived peacefully for the remainder of their lives, but instead they have been convinced to fight a hopeless war against Marley." So, Zeke thinks he is putting them out of their misery by throwing rocks at them. Zeke is doing what he needs to until he can get his hands on the Founder's power and make Eldians unable to have children - which he thinks will end the suffering of all Eldians. Zeke feels bad for these soldiers because, in everyone's mind, this tiny island has no hope against Marley, yet they are being led to slaughter. "It's bullshit (It's worth going back to that episode to hear Zeke's monologue)." No one imagined that Paradis would win. Led by Erwin, Levi, Armin, Eren, Mikasa, and many others, Paradis won. They stole Marley's greatest weapon - the Colossal Titan. They resealed their walls and pushed back the invading force. They sent a message to Marley and the world, and transformed their island from an "Eldian penal colony" to an independent nation. This shook the world. People around the world learned the news that the tiny island of Eldians had defeated Marley (the greatest military power on the continent). "These people that once dominated the world are not docile anymore. They have grown powerful enough to win against the powerful nation of Marley. There has been a revolution on Paradis that has made the Eldian Empire a potential threat to the world once again." Now, the world is in a state of panic and will rally together to put down the threat of Paradis. The island is under dire threat from the world. That threat to the island is what is pressuring Eren and everyone to come up with some sort of plan for survival. On the surface, the plan is to launch the limited rumbling to dissuade an attack while Paradis modernizes their technology and negotiates with other nations for peace. In secret, the two brothers have their own plans for the Founder's power. Zeke wants it to make Eldians, and Titan powers, die out from the world. Eren wants it to unleash every Titan in the walls to kill every human, thus guaranteeing the survival of his people (Manga readers will know that there is yet more complexity to all this). Those are my thoughts that came to me while watching this reaction. I love thinking about this show! It's so well-crafted by Isayama <3

2023-03-14 11:59:27 +0000 UTCThis is such an important episode to the series. When new information is revealed, this show really forces you to go back to previous seasons and reexamine past events. This is how I understand events when looking back in hindsight: (Read replies)

2023-03-14 11:59:20 +0000 UTCEveryone says Reiner is the same as Eren, which is true in a lot of ways. But, I think Eren and Zeke, the two brothers, are even greater reflections of each other. Both were born into positions to carry he hopes of their people, against their choice. Both are scheming to rid the world of the problem of Titans. Both are under the pressure to be the savior of their people.

2023-03-12 14:02:57 +0000 UTCAlso, Levi's loyalty to Erwin has a completely different nature than Mikasa's to Eren – Mikasa is driven by love, but it's far beyond reason. I hardly doubt Levi involuntarily jumped if anyone wanted to punch Erwin, but who knows. In short, even if the Ackerbond was real, Erwin cannot really be called Levi's 'host'. Same goes to Kenny and Uri. But that's just the way I see it, I just never felt Levi and Erwin's friendship was even remotely similar to Mikasa's obsession with Eren.

2023-03-12 06:18:49 +0000 UTCYou guys have probably already picked this up by now based on the Zeke conment in 4x28, but the Ackerman “host” thing was a complete fake-out by Eren. Isayama’s come out and confirmed that the Ackermans’ strong bonds (Mikasa to Eren, Levi to Erwin, and Kenny to Uri) are just a part of their personalities and not biological or a part of their ancestry: https://www.cbr.com/attack-on-titan-ackerbond-explained/
