Calling someone a cattle thief would be a severe accusation, as it implies they are a dishonorable criminal, especially when they are accused of stealing something with that much value. If someone insulted you and you brought it up through the legal systems, you would be entitled to financial compensation. If you killed the person who insulted you, it would not count as murder, and your punishment for it would be far less severe.
