Anne of Green Gables (Anne's Red Hair )

まき のり

100%. She's all torn up about stealing the ring, and thinks it makes her evil for sinning. When she realises what evil actually looks like, she realises she's not a bad person really, and all that stress and self-hatred is pointless and leaves her

Huxley Bennett

To me vinland saga is a show that aims to depict what a hateful life looks like and leads to, how selfish diseires are never as amazing as you would imagine but idk

pikaiichuu

Based on this reaction I think I'm most excited to see Brig's reaction to season 2! He was so on point with this episode! The depth in season 2 is off the charts. And Anne saying that seeing the Askelaad and his men made her feel "elated". I took that as her seeing what they did as true evilness and comparing it to her sin of stealing the ring. She was previously questioning if that would be the reason that she is the only one in her family who goes to hell, but after seeing them slaughter her village, she knows that she is nowhere near as sinful as they are and it gives her some relief in the wake of this tragedy.

How come vinland hasn't been posted to youtube yet?

Ash

I think season one can be misleading as an action driven story but it's really a longer dramatic story that has action events. Personally, I like that it really is a saga about getting to Vinland, but I can understand why you see it as a tone change.

2:40-2:55 😭

Haha what’s the time stamp on this 😂

Cannon Andrus

I think we’re heading into a epic clash towards the end of s2, but the first several episodes does a supreme job of character development and interactions, and Carter would probably enjoy it as there is lots to discuss.

James

ss2 has a very slow drama plot

Maeve

It changed the tone of the story after ss1

Maeve

Ss1 has few slow episodes but ss2 will be much slower

Maeve

CANNON HAHAHAH "Shoutout Kushina, I guess"

jul ☽

We haven’t yet, thursday we’re watching it!

Cannon Andrus

I hope they watched ep18 by now lol cant wait to see their reactions.

EK

This show starts off good and then each episode just gets better and better.

Nick McGuire

I think they’ll understand later

A

Brigs commentary at the end 🤌🏻

Mia Malvik

You wont see war being glorified in this show. Actions are accompanied by motives here. There is no senseless battle. This show is about the meaning the meaning of why people do what they do in a world that breathes violence. The show doesn't have all that many battles. You need to embrace the """slow""" parts of the show. the meaning is all there. The reason this show is not a shonen is because it strays form the most simple superficial types of battle. Carter gets it. And its good that Cannon and Brig are open minded to it too, even though they are still kinda green on that regard.

Izaya

Random fact: the author of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura, and the author of Attack on Titan, Hajime Isayama, are big fans of each other's work with Isayama being the bigger one. Isayama first interested in Yukimura's work after reading his manga, Planetes.

James

the author is very intent on not glorifying violence and showing us just how bizarre it really is, we see that with the way he portrayed thorfinn's training arc as something horrific rather than good. why would he give us some unnecessary fight scenes?

luffy

i appreciate carter cannon and brigg's discussion, again, this showis an anti violence show so if you're looking for an all out shounen war episode you've missed the point completely

luffy

idk if you guys want action action action then Vinland is not it

bondbond53

Season 2 is basically as interesting as this all through

Bernie Luke Nang'ayo

it's a very good episode! We started to sympathize for them and boom back to reality to show us how bad they are. as other comments say, even if there were beautiful fights vinland saga is strong in narration and really deep, we are far from a demon slayer where the fights are a big part of the show so don’t wait the action scenes and just enjoy 🤌🏼

Audreyldo

IT WAS WORTH IT

snoobcat

For me, there are no "slow" episodes in Vinland Saga. It's too good!

A

Yes this. It took me quite some time to realize what her saying she feels elated meant

A_Daddy Daichi

lmao me too

adam

Same! 😤

Melizé

NOT SLEEPING UNTIL I GET THE SUPRISE UPLOAD

snoobcat

this is literally top 5 eps in the show.

Jack McKee

so goated

DeludedDonut

Watching 86 right now and its soooooo good!

Melizé

OPM would be amazing!

Melizé

i want them to be crushed emotionally i want them to watch every sad or emotion envoking anime there is. I really want them to watch EIGHTY SIX but no one cares enough to influence them to watch that next. After all it isnt jujutsu kaisen or some crap

DeludedDonut

Opm is amazing but it’s better once u have more anime under your belt bc then you aren’t turned off by how they make fun of tropes

Aidan Ross

I honestly think One Punch Man would be an amazing change of pace for you guys considering the shows you've picked up, it's comedy and action with amazing animation. Idk much about "og contest winner" but VS is a very serious show as was AoT. You'd know by the end of episode 1 of OPM if it's a show for you. Not to add to the workload lol, just a suggestion I haven't seen yet, I guess DS kinda fills that role, curious what other ppl think too

CHIEF

Loved the discussion afterwards. And I get why you are all hoping for more action given how perfectly paced the earlier action-heavy episodes were but all I can say is that these last 3 episodes are setting up for some insane episodes later on.

kingkoopa98

And to add to that I think this episode shows what being a warrior in those times were like. Even if someone is doing something for a just cause those “good people” still do terrible things

Swigs

Let's gooo

Mia Malvik

I feel like these last couple episodes you guys watched really show how VS is as a show. (Don’t get me wrong it’s about to pick up fast in the next couple) Especially in season 2 at least for me it was really slow at first because it was hard to tell where the show is going, but the latest episode that came out makes all the previous episodes make sense. The build of the story may be long but that’s because it’s so deep and I feel like even though some of the episodes were a little hard to sit through because I was expecting something else, it makes the pay off even better in the end because of how the story emphasized these seemingly small moments.

Swigs

Like Jackson said, they are now in Mercia which is in England. They had to go back to English land as they are trying to reach the Main Army which is located in inner England. As you caught they are lots of close up shots of peoples hand which are very detailed. Manga author Makoto Yukimura puts emphasis on hands and tries to draw them in a detailed manner compared to lots of other illustrators. As he puts it "You can fake a facial expression, but your hands will show how hard you work or how hard you don’t. If you show a character's life in their hands, you'll get a good result". Yukimura is also a very outspoken pacifist. And in Vinland Saga he shows the ugly reality of violence. There are lot of other medias that is set Viking era but usually their raiding and plundering is covered very nonchalantly and we perceive them as cool and adventurous. Most of the time the victims are more or less NPCs however VS humanizes them (like Anne or the woman that combs Thorfinn's hair) and doesn't shy away from what violence costs. And like you guys said, both for Vikings and general audience including me, this stuff is not usually considered in a moral perspective. It is basically what their culture is about, a Viking warrior's value is measured by their capability in inflicting violence and their honor is dependent on their willingness to go to war. Even in their religion, they only go to heaven if they die in battlefield while fighting with valor. It is the most contrary social setting to authors and Thors morals (which I think is a moral compass of the show) and I think at least one goal of the author to challenge his ideology in this contrary setting. At least I felt like this was the case after the introduction of Thors and I thought this could be a goated show because a lot stories tries to push for some message, morality or ideology but only great stories test their ideologies in non-affirmative conditions and successfully integrate it into the narrative.

kaan

Vinland Saga is HEAVY on storytelling… WHICH MAKES IT AMAZING. Believe me… y’all are going to be hooked. I’m *patiently* waiting for y’all to cry where I know y’all will 🤭😌 I will bask in that reaction. Ugh can’t wait. Peakland 🔥

Abigail Jerry

Anne’s reaction to the slaughter caught me off-guard. You’d think she would be terrified of the Danes, but she mostly found comfort in their actions. She witnessed these men committing a greater evil than her, with no regard for God’s judgment. She probably felt liberated and less guilty as a sinner.

rosa_gris

Yeah if you all are expecting constant action, expect to be disappointed later on. I like it a lot still and I think you all will too but you will probably need to shift what you are looking for from the show lol. Ofc there's still action, but like this 3 ep section, other times there will be less action

szeth

There’s going to be slow periods in VS just as there was slow periods in AoT.

James

they prolly would just hate on chainsawman, as much as i love it

celery

Please don't go into this anime expecting blood/gore and action all the time. This story gets significantly heavy philosophically, and focuses more on characters than action later on.

VoN

Cannons reaction was exactly the same as mine 😭

will saldivia

"Give me blood and gore" 😂😂😂 yes!

Melizé

Oh yeah much longer than anything else they’ve watched yet. I’d honestly be happy with naruto, jjk, fmab, chainsaw man, or anything that is as juicy as them

Aidan Ross

I THINK Brig is still watching Naruto and Cannon was 3 episodes in the last time he talked about it in one of the AOT episodes. Who knows... It's a long ride

Riya

Naruto is a long shot but it would be sick!

Melizé

I forgot about that 👀👀👀

Christa

Lezzgoooo McKay!!

Christa

They reference it all the time they have to watch it eventually right. Idk maybe I’m just coping in hopes they are doing it
