The one shounen that will always stay in my heart is HxH, I think it really stands out from the rest, but others seem more of the same. Though many will not agree with this!

I think for younger anime fans it’s like their mainstream shounen. I really think the boys should release another poll for underrated anime series that they should watch for their next batch.

AoT could arguably be in there, then there's Vinland Saga, JJK, Chainsaw Man, Hell's Paradise, etc. I wouldn't be so harsh on Demon Slayer tho (even tho I dropped in like s1). Animation is a large reason we might choose to watch an anime over reading the manga, so if a show has great animation, that's a big thing even if it doesn't ultimately trump a great story (imo).

2023-05-06 19:08:43 +0000 UTClet's just agree shonen like demon slayer and jujutsu kaisen feel very generic/forgettable and made for kids/teenagers (literally the definition of the genre). take out the animation from demon slayer and the manga would never be hyped or sell that much. It is the most overhyped show ever and it is actually pretty mediocre. Jujutsu kaisen is a little better. Want to know if the story of a show is really good, go check its manga score on my animelist. Even with all the hype, demon slayer is far from being top300, but there is not a single reaction channel that can escape from it, because it got very popular out of 1 or 2 scenes of a shiny water coming out of a sword and a people going oh this muffled girl is so cute *_*. The show itself is just cringe, annoying characters, close to no story at all, all being held by good animation sequences now and then. The more you watch anime the less you will care about the actual animation. And don't get me wrong, I grew up watching shonens, I loved fight scenes, but after growing up (actually after not being a teenager) and watching 100+ anime, shows like demon slayer just feel very very empty and generic. Even in its genre it is far from being comparable to the real good shonens. I hope in the future you separate a window on your channel dedicated to classic shows so you don't miss on them, because there are a lot of great classic anime that won't win a poll against the newer shows out there

I have a feeling that Studio Gek were led to believe that VS is like AoT and they went in expecting something quite similar, and are maybe a little confused about the lack of similarities. I think the audience hype ends up creating expectations which may not be met. VS is certainly slower than AoT, but the reason why most of us like it is because of the characters, their background, motivations, and how their actions shape and change them. It is a slow cooked show as someone already elaborated. But you have to really pay attention and keep track of the events, for the journey of the characters is the main essence of the show. The conversations reveal the layers lying beneath them, for they may not seem to be who they really are. The fights are interesting precisely because of the characters themselves. Just keep an open mind and see where the story takes you. In the end, you can judge for yourself whether it is similar to AoT or not, or whether you like it or not! The second half of the show definitely keeps getting more interesting with each episode.

Naruto is show where I fell in love with shonen anime, followed by Bleach and I just love the Villains in those shows (Akatsuki and Espada). Demon Slayers villains reminds me of that so much, such a cool design and interesting characters. In JJK I liked the white three-like curse but nothing else really grabbed me.

Firstly I thought that I have seen too many shonens already and i am tired of the formula, but i watched demon slayer after JJK and I loved it so Im not sure. My brother will probably force me to watch season 2 and finish it so I might change my opinion after :D

Plus with 4 series I don't know if they have time to record like 5 eps per show every week. I do hope they find out some sort of way to make a balance of some sort. Because vs, dn, and jjk are pretty lengthy series and I don't see them finishing them till like next year at this pace lol
