2023-05-15 07:07:54 +0000 UTCto put it plainly, cursed energy is the physical manifestation of negative human emotions- it can be channeled through cursed techniques to be used as a tool/weapon, or it can manifest as a living(ish), functional organism. very few people have the ability to see/interact with this energy regularly (with exceptions for extreme cases like in episode 1), and (as far as I'm aware) while it's much more likely to inherit this ability genetically, sometimes people without major ties to lines of jujutsu ancestry can see/use cursed energy anyways. The reverse is also true- even in major family lines in the jujutsu world, it's possible for someone to not be born with that ability.

2023-05-14 04:06:58 +0000 UTCRemembering something that Gojo told Yuji, curse energy and curse techniques are things that you get born with, then an stressful situation or environment can make it "awake", I guess we can compare it to people that can "see" ghosts or experience some paranormal activity (In our reality). So think of curse energy as the power they get born with and the curse technique is the means to use that power, or at least that's how I explained to myself lol. Yuji for example was born with curse energy but not a technique, he does have the power but not the means to use it. Yet. Maki, another example, was born without curse energy, so she doesn't have a technique either or the ability to even see curses, so she has to use those glasses and weapons that are already imbued with curse energy to fight them. And then you get the others, the people that is born with curse energy and a curse technique like Megumi, Gojo, Toge etc. Ugh, sorry for long comment.

It's a phenomenon thats kinda etched into the fabric of their world, like how some people believe karma is a phenomenon thats etched into our world. some people are able to use cursed energy innately but ig it requires some conscious awareness of it on some level, thats why most humans dont exercise that power. a minority of people have no innate cursed energy or cursed techniques and are unable to even see curses, like maki and a certain someone *cough* *cough*. yuji has cursed energy its just he doesnt have a cursed technique *yet*. i think they also mentioned this but under certain circumstances, the general public can see curses, particularly when under serious stress or if the curse is just that strong and imposing. thats why the two of yujis friends at the start of the series were able to see them and its what megumi said as a reason to explain why even yuji was able to. it also explains why the prisoners saw the cursed womb, either bc they just had that ability, or bc of the fact that the womb was a potential special grade so it was just that imposing. so as long as emotions and feelings are heightened, it may allow a person to see curses even if they otherwise might not be able to.
