.H. .X. .H. Episodes 10-12

Cannon got just a bit upset lol. Next one up soon!

Comments

It's funny to hear that comment on one piece after the end of the 24h marathon and you guys actually liking the first 25 episodes 🤣

שלומית ג'יבלי

Why have I seen literally everyone recommend the 2011 series then.

Sasha

Cannon always gets upset though.

Sasha

it becomes an s tier show in the final arc

sean

Ahh okay thanks

Kaibur

ep 13 is recap filler

Liam Owen

was episode 13 skipped? this post is 10-12, the next one is 14-16. am i trippin?

Kaibur

I wasn't hooked until after the first arc, and now its my all time favorite show

mclv mclv

Yeah I’m with Cannon, that was BRUTAL to watch. Just stupid decisions. This is actually where I dropped HxH when I originally tried watching it, so hopefully it redeems itself in future episodes!

Bryce

its because the pacing of the 2011 anime is horrendous and literally cuts out one of the most plot important characters entirely from the first episode. its not all that bad but i went for so long only having seen the anime and recently read the manga, got whiplash from how much better it was imo

lunchbag9

"eVERY TIME YOU WALK IN THE ROOM" XD

Jem de Jager

I just really appreciate Cannon's honesty regarding the decision making in those last episodes, he just spoke outloud what I'm thinking every time I watch them

Emiya

cuz gons a cutie patootie <3

celery

good for u brotha

Jack McKee

You ever seen 1 Guy 1 Screwdriver?

Faris Alamin

That's cool. The show is amazing in my opinion

bondbond53

I really don't understand why people like this show. I'm really trying to like it but so many things are just not my cup of tea.

Mysterious Figure

Brig's bracelet or whatever he's wearing looks like the gnarliest tan line from certain angles.

notchrisramirez

@boop GI is good but pretty sure it’s Yorknew and CAA

ssj4rit

the examiner never spoke during the whole thing. The prisoners are not examiners.

kiiturii

I understand how others feel about these episodes, but I still find them pretty fun 😶

JustanAnus

Brig: *likes Tonpa’s theme song* *No one bats an eye* Cannon: *likes Tonpa’s theme song* *Looks of disgust from Carter and McKay* I guess Brig is just that friend who gets away with saying unhinged shit

rosa_gris

Actually Kurapika's actions tell a lot about his nature in this arc. He refuses to kill an unconscious man, that shows he has morals and principles (of course, he does not know that the blue guy is faking it), also he is very stubborn in nature despite being calm and logical. I think these are useful insights into his character. I also think Leorio played smart for the first two bets - betting whether he is alive or dead and betting whether he is truly unconscious or not. Not only did it resolve the previous battle but also ended up giving our side one win. But yes, the last two bets were whack - and I guess Togashi just wanted to make Leorio lose so that Killua would have his moment to shine, they would end up wasting their time but also end up bonding more than the other participants so that the last battle - choose 3 vs choose 5 - holds more conflict and meaning.

Shiro

While I agree that some of the earlier episodes are a bit slow and goofy, I think the trick tower is interesting in its own way. For one, we are shown Kurapika's character, he is very much his own man and will follow his own code and principles, regardless of the outcome. He is also shown to be stubborn in nature, which is important keeping in mind the future arcs. Also, remember that it is not a fair game, on one side are the examiners and on the other side are the examinees. They do not know whether Majitani is dead or unconscious, it is quite natural to allow the examiners to check him, and yes, it is not quite fair, it was never meant to be. They rely on the examiner's verdict, Kurapika refuses to kill an unconscious man, but the examiner is certainly deceitful. I don't think the examinees can move as they please, we were reminded that the majority decision only works when the examiners ask a question and not the examinees themselves. So it makes sense for them to wait till he regains his consciousness, as they are very trusting of the examiners. It was actually quite smart to use the previous unresolved battle to start a new battle, and the blue dude did not want to fight Kurapika, so he was anyway going to concede, giving our side one win.

Shiro

no, they are not, CAA is perfect, people shitting on it are following the trend to shit on it without watching the show lol

Poragami

Tonpa was spitting facts there though. He did a great job of explaining the intricacies of the exam to the audience. If you hate him at least acknowledge him as a good exposition device. To have someone who went through the exam 35 times is as if we had the author himself to explain the point of the exam for us watchers. Jackson and Cannon realized that. Im proud

Izaya

you guys are nuts

Jonesy

carter and cannons reaction to the inspection seems so innocent and it was hilarious

LuvStarburst

I just woke up and remember that I forgot to comment this but... What is Brig doing with the screwdriver!? 🤣

Ale

I gotta comment something. I have watched a decent amount of Anime, close to 200 i believe and out of every single show, i watched AoT 3 times now and i really love the show and there's almost nothing that's bad about the anime, it's almost flawless, but HxH(watched 6 times now) is my all time favorite anime, i can't explain why, but i feel like the Anime itself has a personality and it really shows watching the show. Anyway, you'll have a tie between AoT and HxH at some point if you like it that much already.

Poragami

not that these episodes are bad, but the exam and this portion of it is one of the weaker part of the show for sure

Toff

I'd be more surprised if some of the stuff in these episodes didn't frustrate you guys ngl. Super slow and some weird logic. Killua taking out the mass murderer in a flash was pretty sick though

Asbjørn Kennedy

Majtani (Blue guy) saying I surrender was a translation error in the subtitles. I'm pretty sure tries to say I lose or I lost but is cut off from Kurapika fucking him up

olivia

That's good! I'm not a fan of barebones comment sections with all the comments only saying "first" or "thank you" and not discussing the episodes or the show in general, so I throw in some spice here and there. If you see me having wild takes in the future, know that I'm doing it with a Tonpa grin on my face.

Sigh Berian

It wasn’t your comment, promise!!

Studio Geck

This is cannon haha

Studio Geck

@ssj4rit but blue dude had literally 0 reason to concede, he went through that whole cherade just to concede without even being contested? It's not like leorio could have done anything, just because he woke up didn't mean the battle would be over, and even then it shouldn't even ever have gotten to that point, they shouldn't have been allowed to start the next battle

kiiturii

Not sure if you mean comparison or differentiate. 😂

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

alright you guys got me to upgrade my subscription cause I need to see these episodes now

LuvStarburst

I don’t disagree with everything else but for the last part, the whole game is 1 person proposes a topic and the other bets their time on some outcome. Leroute still had time to decide before Leorio performed the “test” of throwing Majitani off the stage. As for why Leorio still went through with the test after she changed her bet, I have no clue lol. Maybe he just conceded time knowing atleast it means Kurapika wins his round, idk.

ssj4rit

yeah these 3 episodes drag a lot and I usually just skip them on rewatches honestly. killua’s match and hisoka killing that guy are the only memorable scenes for me in the tower arc. I love this show though and these are the only episodes I really consider to be the “worst”.

Joydan Bri’an

@ssj4rit I think one way to explain it is their gullibility as children and teenagers, or perhaps they were more trusting of the prisoners as they were also the examiners. It took them a while to realize they might be getting tricked. I liked Cannon’s point of showing us them wasting their time but not showing us them reaching the final point. On another note, I think the exams were somewhat different in the manga as the 1999 version had a couple of additional tests that this version completely skipped. So I think this arc may be the most inconsistent adaptation of the manga. The rest of the arcs should be more faithful to the source material. If I am not mistaken, Leorio was a bit less annoying in the 1999 version 😅

Shiro

I remember enjoying these episodes a lot more think I was too impatient this time cause I just wanted to get to killua lmao

Kyle

Maybe 🤣

Crowderr

no I totally get it these three eps are brutal hahah especially the whole leorio gamble fight

nans

I knew you guys wouldn't like these episodes, I didn't like them either the first time (nor this time), especially because of Kurapika, he is always shown as a calm and logical character, but him refusing to finish his battle, or even just go and check if the other guy was unconscious or not was so stupid of him. Then Leorio just makes everything worse, not that it surprise anyone tho, then half an episode of them doing nothing is insane. Definitely the prison "miniarc" were the episodes that I least enjoyed.

Ale

@crowder GI and CA arcs???

boop

I'm so with Cannon, I've always had huge problems with these episodes lmao, feels good to have someone agree because usually people don't. It doesn't make any sense that they have the bet battle when the whole problem to begin with was that they can't start the next battle due to the dude not having surrendered, also if the battle didn't end the bridges shouldn't have come back, and since the girl on the other team walked up to the arena I don't understand why any of the others couldn't. Then she just changes her bet after already locking in... Just way too many conveniently dumb things happening lmao

kiiturii

Tonpa would be hilarious as a cadet trying to prevent more scouts from being recruited

ssj4rit

I hope so bro

ssj4rit

ngl Tonpa is one of those characters (like Floch) that I wanna punch so badly 😂 I couldn't wait so I binged HxH and I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL YOU GUYS GET TO THE FUTURE ARCS!

Bibi

HxH and AOT are both in my top 3 for different reasons and it’s completely justifiable to prefer one over the other (whatever your preference is)! They are both iconic and have great rewatch values. I look forward to hearing your guys thoughts on the two after you finish and what your overall thoughts are since you are already thinking about it this early on :)

nans

@Shiro yeah it’s odd they waited a few hours before checking lol

ssj4rit

L take pure bozo take

YoItsNiko

we gettin more hunter tn??????

YoItsNiko

No worries Carter, these episodes are a little slow, so your frustration is justified. But to be fair to Kurapika, they were asking him to murder an unconscious person. They should’ve just checked him sooner and not trusted the female prisoner/examiner when she declared him to be unconscious.

Shiro

honestly you liking it already makes me even more excited for y’all to continue watching the rest of the show! It truly only gets better and better. The journey is long but when it’s over, in hindsight this first arc will be bittersweet :’)

nans

Yeah I think it’s valid to call out Kurapika should’ve just checked for himself. Not sure why he didn’t lmao, and it sticks out like a sore thumb because HxH is pretty logical especially for a shounen.

ssj4rit

I’ve watched/read so many anime/manga since HxH aired but those two arcs are still in my top 5. Unmatched, especially for their time.

ssj4rit

Oh guys I literally was just frustrated with the logic in this episode that’s all. Trust me we’re on episode 16 and i love the show

Studio Geck

Cannon, don't let my comment ruin the HxH experience for you. Idk if it was my comment that made you frustrated or just these 3 worst episodes of HxH or both, but don't take it to heart. I was mostly just leaving that comment for the other people who've seen both and want to agree or disagree. Also, at this point in the HxH story, I was pretty close to dropping it, so don't worry if at this point AOT is a lot better for you. And even when you are caught up and think AOT is way better, then that's fine too. Plenty of people do, I'm just not one of them.

Sigh Berian

Yeah all I can say is I think post timeskip has the highest peaks and lowest lows of the series. And now rewatching the series I find holes with the mechanics of the world, characters, story, power system etc if you consider the entire series as a whole.

ssj4rit

CAA is peak and perfectly paced

BrianTheWoeful

To me, AOT and HxH each found the pacing that works for their show. AOT is balls to the wall, every episode is crazy. HxH is slower and packed with information. I love both shows (but I skip Leorio's trick tower battle every time) and I think both do an incredible job. Togashi, HxH's manga creator, is well known for being one of the most detailed, wordy, exposition-based mangakas out there. I think HxH anime would be lacking if it didn't bring that same pacing Togashi intended it to have.

Teaq

Haha, the two legendary ones!

Shiro

Yes, looking back, they are indeed the less interesting parts, but I think they really wanted to show the building of bonds between characters for later parts

Shiro

No spoilers ofc but there are two arcs which I think are up there with the best in the medium that I've seen and I've watched like 300+ plus shows. I am hyped to see these guys watch them.

Crowderr

Yes, I agree… I won’t say much, perhaps we can discuss once the story is over in the anime as well.

Shiro

Same, tower ark almost made me drop it too. Def the worst part of the show.

Sigh Berian

For me, these 3 eps are always hurtful to watch, except Killua's part.

ttchoppa

Fr, thank you.

Bandit

A lot of personal opinions lol. Honestly the tonal shifts in this show make you feel like you are watching a different show sometimes so it does this by itself. Gon and Killua having a pillow fight when like 2 minutes earlier Killua pulled someones heart out. Can't wait for you guys to watch shows like code geass, steins gate or one punch man. 3 entirely different shows lmao

Crowderr

AOT and H×H are very different, and it is definitely up to which theme, style, and message people like better. Those are both my top 3. I like H×H better, but it's just preference and doesn't even have to agree or disagree. I'm looking forward to hearing which shows Geks like when they finish watching all of both! They are both GOAT!

Lily

TRUE apples and oranges fr fr

boop

I'm the Tonpa of this comment section

Sigh Berian

HxH is amazing but this tower ark made me wanna drop it, so happy I stuck with as its in my top 10 now. I can see cannon disagreeing with a lot in this show but you have to remember these mfs have powers and shit logic doesn't work the same. That being said I am still hyping for the eventual arrival of FMA:B as I feel everyone will love this after watching you guys react to every show.

Crowderr

Yall I just want you to know that just because things are different doesn't mean they cant or shouldn't be compared. In fact I would argue the more different they are, the more there is to talk about how they tell their stories. What you LIKE more is definitely a different story

Studio Geck

A very interesting take I will say. I have heard a similar approach from some others so youre definitely not alone

Studio Geck

When you guys start reacting to my favorite story in One Piece, make sure to title the videos, "One Piece haters react." Hisoka and Tonpa are the goats from this arc, and they both have banger theme songs to match.

Sigh Berian

It’s annoying when they are just trying to enjoy the journey and then somebody bombards them with, “HxH is better” or whatever. Some of the boys like the action but most of them appreciate the storytelling. I hope people recognize that.

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

Shoutout to me for getting a mention in the beginning from Cannon. I'm not even joking, I'm around EP 60 of HxH and I like it way more than AOT. Only argument everyone makes for AOT is pacing. For me, pacing is not even top 10 things I look for in shows. Number one thing I use to rate shows is how much I enjoyed watching them. And I enjoyed watching HxH way more than AOT. Besides the hype moments in AOT, the rest of the story feels like you are getting dragged to your doom, and that is not enjoyable. For certain shows like AOT, with a depressing world and story, they need to have characters/humor to balance out the depressive atmosphere. A good example would be GOT balancing out the brutality with Tyrion's character. I'm not saying AOT is trash, but it did make me drop the whole show when a certain Gabi killed someone. I should mention that this is just my opinion, its okay to disagree.

Sigh Berian

Agree, even the author of JJK, Tokyo Ghoul, Naruto got inspiration from HxH

Nazerke K

I mean we should just enjoy both for what they are. You’ll see some HxH influence in AoT, HxH was written since the 90s and alot of mangaka respect it.

ssj4rit

Imo last arc of AoT opens up a lot of holes in the story looking back.

ssj4rit

Just finished watching HxH it was great almost amazing the ending got me tearing up a little bit lol. AOT is still my favorite anime and I’m not sure if that will ever change.

John Paul

CAA is peak

ssj4rit

Comparing two totally different anime AOT and HxH is meaningless, they are different genres like Post-apocalyptic AOT and Adventure fantasy action HxH. Both anime are masterpieces in their field and everyone has different tastes🤷🏻‍♀️

Nazerke K

In terms of the quality of the story, AOT is the peak what you can get in terms of a good quality story. It reached the pinnacle of what you can do with one single story, But HxH is more revolutionary in terms of what it does to tell the story, that even though simple, is impressively rich and its bounced around in a way that feels unnatural. Its almost as if the strong points is not even the story itself but the brilliant concepts and genius ideas of what to do with the characters and the situations. Togashi took fantasy and "magical" concepts and rationalized it into something that almost feels like science. to the point that its hard to explain the show for non initiated or someone that never watched it. Of course, you only know that after watching the whole series. its hard to explain. If these animes were movies HxH would win the Oscar and AOT would be n°1 in ticket sales. Kinda hard to compare the two. At the end of the day with shows like this it will come to preference and personal bias

Izaya

Brig with that random screwdriver. I'm scared for McKay's life.

BipolarKitten

Yeah, it is a matter of preference. While HxH starts slow, the later parts get really better, in my opinion. As for AoT, it starts very strong, but I think the last part is much weaker (again, just my opinion and I have read the entire manga, so I know how the story ends). HxH anime ending is very good, as for the manga, no one knows when that will end. Perhaps you should revisit your opinion after the show ends, it will be interesting how much you change your opinion! After all, you did end up loving AoT in the end...

Shiro

I understand and agree with Cannon. Stop comparing these anime if you don’t know what you are talking about. AOT is a masterpiece but if you prefer others, it’s okay.

Joie Dianzon 🇵🇭

Did you watched the whole show? If Togashi writting isn't genius, I don't know what it is.
