The thing is that Solo Leveling is one of the most (if not the most) famous manhwa out there, so it's super hyped. I started reading it, the art is amazing (I highly think that's the reason is so popular) this genre it's not exactly my cup of tea, but if the animation is good I would certainly enjoy it. This is a Korean story but is adapted in Japan, the language on the trailers was japanese, there are a few other manhwa that has been adapted in Japan, like Tower of God, Noblesse, The God of High school are the ones I can remember right now.

It's definitely not Aot level or any all time anime level. However, the manhwa(source material) is still a very enjoyable read. Glad that we are getting another manhwa adaptation! Edit: The reason why this adaptation is so hyped is because Solo Leveling is the most well known manhwa of all time. Most readers that read manhwa knows the existence of Solo Leveling.

There are so many good Korean and Chinese light novels that I've read that I wish would get an anime or even a manga adaptation, but sadly they don't have the manga and anime foundations that Japan has so we never get to see them. If you hear some hype for an upcoming anime and you don't know where it's coming from, generally that upcoming anime has a good manga or light novel. General life of a story: Light novel → Manga → Anime → Live Action

I don't think they ruined it yet, if they improve the animation and slow down the pace and actually adapt all elements of the story, season 2 of Tower of God would be sick. Season 1 was the prologue and the art in the webtoon was kind of bad at that time too. So as long as they do a good job with season 2, they can definitely revive it and make it one of the best anime.

I would be much more hyped for a season 2 of Tower of God (as long as they don't condense 75+ chapters into 12 episodes again). Tower of God is an ongoing Korean manhwa with 500+ chapters out currently that has a sick story, great characters, and amazing worldbuilding unlike Solo Leveling.

Was not expecting a Solo Leveling reaction. I followed it the webtoon for a while, but never completed it. The story is decent; it’s a good introduction to the Korean dungeon-hunting/system-leveling genre, but it would be boring for people who are already deep into it. The powers and fights were pretty hype, and the manhwa art is gorgeous. A lot of the appeal comes from the visuals, so for the anime to be successful, it needs to have amazing animation. Since A1 and Hiroyuki Sawano are involved, I’m pretty excited for it. I hope that with the popularity of the Solo Leveling anime, other Korean webtoons and webnovels get adapted 🤞(manifesting Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint).

It's basically Korean Demon Slayer, only popular because of it's god tier art, but the story is mid. I still enjoyed it though so if they do a good job with the animation, it should still be pretty good.

And for a bit more context - Korea is extremely digitalized and high tech, but that also means they don't consume or invest in the manhwa (book) and animation industry like Japan does. So another reason why they gave it to a Japanese studio is because Korea doesn't have much experience in animation while as we all know Japan is the goat when it comes to anime. I would say Korea is much more competent in live movies and tv shows like Parasite and Squid game.. which you guys should react to one day!

To provide more context : so the series is based off a Korean webtoon (which is a form of web-comic that's huge in Korea), and a Japanese animation studio acquired the rights to make an adaptation of it. So, the anime is Japanese, but the original story is a Korean manhwa (which is Korean for comic. It's different from manga). The original webtoon was a huge hit globally, which is why there's a lot of hype for the anime adaptation!

If you can, please check the trailer for 「Pluto」 on Netflix too! This manga was written by Naoki Urasawa, a genius suspense kinda manga writer in Japan. Also, Pluto is based on an anime/manga, which is a hommage for one of the oldest Japanese anime called 「Astro boy」 by legend and pioneer manga writer Osamu Tezuka. The target audience for Urasawa's works is adults, so less action, and it is different from Shonen. But I thought making this animation in this era was dope, and the trailer is worth watching!

Oh also I'm not sure if this was already said but Cannon was spot on. The manhwa is Korean but a Japanese studio is animating it. And bc of that there's been alot of talk about a particular arc later in series and whether or not it'll be animated exactly or changed

The manhwa is fun, I think gigguk described it well as a great power fantasy. It's super bingeble and if you want to read something on the bus/train it's great for that. Other than that the story isn't very gripping, and there's not much depth, and the main character has no discernable personality. I won't be following the anime weekly, might binge it when it's done. Would recommend tower of god to anyone who wants a better story

I was not expecting this, a lovely surprise! I love solo leveling, I haven't finished it and I've heard the ending is mid, but I don't care lol. The art is beautiful, the characters are cool, the powers are awesome, it's all just my cup of tea. I'm a bit apprehensive about this adaptation since I heard that they're changing a few things, but I'm definitely willing to give it a shot. I'll be watching this trailer for the first time with the boys, so I hope it's good! If you all wanna delve a little into manwha/manhua, Return of the Mount Hua Sect, The Beginning After the End, and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, are some of the popular ones I highly recommend:)

It's one of, if not, the biggest Manhwa out there. For anyone that doesn't know what a Manhwa is, a Manhwa is basically a manga, just with colors and not always in black&white.

The manhwa has great art, the story is mid, especially the end. However, for someone who has probably never read any tower korean manhwa, it's still gonna be fun, it was my first tower manhwa, I really liked it too when I was a manhwa newbie. Other people like me who have read 30+ tower manhwa, know this shit is so cliché and predictable.
