Also i hate Dragonball Z dub. I didn't get into it as a kid because i felt like the voice didn't match the characters it was awkward.

There are definitely some VA's I prefer in dub. Of the characters you've met so far I like Al's, Roy Mustang's, Bradley, Lust. It took a while for Ed's VA to grow on me, but he kills it in some scenes. I also think they do a really good job of incorporating western localization in some scenes.

Some of y'all are straight trashing it though. Aot dub is actual trash imo and sub is a million times better. But FMAB just has some amazing moments that I can't imagine watching sub. The boys even noticed some of the best VA in English already in mustang and Bradley, I love Hawkeye in dub waayyy more too. We still have more amazing characters to meet that i think dub is more iconic with amazing performances

I think you should've started dub first episode. Second episode has a lot of kid scenes obviously and kids voices are usually annoying cause it's grown people doing a kid. Troy Baker shows up in this dub and I LOVE him as his character and as a VA. I was really excited to finally have you guys watch this but it's incredibly disappointing that some of y'all are so ready to bash it. I def have more of an emotional connection to the show though. My dad passed when I was a kid unexpectedly when he was 31 and I was 9 so I instantly felt super connected to the elric brothers.

I grew up watching it as dubbed but when I caught up and started watching subbed, it was something to get use to after over a decade of hearing the dubbed voice actors. I guess the voices are something to get use to but I love the subbed version of DB and plan on rewatching it subbed. I can’t say which is better because they are both good in their own ways but Masako Nozawa (Goku’s VA) is a LEGEND. Her portrayal of Goku is perfect. She captures his essence like no one else could and she really brings him to life. It’s a shame some people don’t understand or give it a chance. ): Lol sorry, that comment at the end just fueled the fire in me haha. Rant over.

Never watched this show before but after comparing the ep 1 clips on YT, I thought the mic quality for roy was just flat out better on the sub (for ep 1 at least). Nostalgia definitely seems to carry the dub so far cause theres no way the dub is "1000% better than sub" as some people here have been preaching. Maybe I need more comparisons though.

I still feel like people like to hate on the dub out of spite instead of actual valid criticism sometimes. Obviously a preference is fine, but I think the hate dub receives is just people being stubborn.

There's nothing wrong with preferring sub (I prefer it as well), but you guys don't have an ear for Japanese so you don't know what sounds "cringy" in Japanese. There are plenty of Japanese people who may find some of your favorite characters cringy because they know the inflections of the language. Not trying to hate, but I just feel like it comes off as disrespectful to some of these voice actors who put in so much work on the dub. Especially saying stuff like you coulda done a better job then Ed's voice actor.

Honestly this sub VS dub thing is getting crazy in the comments and 1 thing that people failed to recognize is that is harder to hear your comments over the dialog in the episode, people say "turn subtitles on" unfortunately crunchyroll doesn't have that option, if you watch dub, that's it, there's no subtitles, not even a translation for text on the screen which makes you lose some context and information 🥲 I'm with Cannon, Trisha was awful in dub, also Al was not really that good, you can clearly hear is a woman trying so hard to sound like a little kid, the same as Winry, and Ed is whatever. I can say there are characters that have really good actors as their VA, unfortunately is not true for everyone. Either way, you guys decide what's best for you to enjoy this.

Something about reading the characters words on screen while listening to the original VAs tone helps me understand most scenes a bit better. That said this is one of the legendary serviceable dubs up there with Pokémon, DBZ, Naruto etc

FMAB was what put Shinichiro (Mustang's JP VA) on my VA radar way back when I finished the show. Like others said though, maybe nostalgia plays a factor for the likeness. Could also be that whichever was watched first, sub or dub, they can't unhear the voices. The dub isn't bad though, just not better.

I think it's nice that you give the dub a chance because people ask for it, but in the future unless you're genuinely interested in the dub I'd just suggest you don't even do a trial episode because it's just a much worse viewer experience overall edit: I also noticed they don't even subtitle or translate any of the japanese text so you're straight up just missing information by watching the dub
