so real

alexis ♡︎

For me it's Eren Zeke Mikasa I pretty much rate them based on how emotionally invested I was with them, Zeke's background was crushing I've never felt more sad for any character in anything than Mikasa at the end of the series Eren is eren

Kian Dehghan

He's my 2nd favourite after Eren I was so engrossed in his character, I was legit excited every time he showed up on screen

Kian Dehghan

You guys should react to the AOT Voice actors recording the final episode

John Paul

Finally got to watching this and got sad all over again that it is over lol hell of a run boys 🫡 Also, Eren is easily #1, guy might be the greatest MC in anime history.

Bryce

If they keep some AOT content going i’d love to see them react to a compilation of some tik tok edits just because they go so hard haha and attack on titan junior high even though it’s silly hah

Adri

Maybe the parasite somehow survived in Eren's head, since his resting place is the site the boy wanders into to renew the cycle. And evolved over the span of thousand of years

Jag_227

That's an interesting explanation. I kinda thought that maybe microscopic parts of the parasite were present in all Eldians, and the parasite is like a hive colony with a singular mind, so that's how every Eldian is able to see the Paths, and be influenced by the parasite since it basically attaches to their nervous system, but the main or the biggest part of the parasite's body is in the Founder. So when we see it "disintegrated" on the floor in that puddle scene, I'm kind of thinking only the big mature grown parasite is actually dead, but the microscopic not yet fully matured parts of it still remain in every Eldian, which is how the parasite actually survived all the way up till that moment after the credits where the boy ventures into the hole in the tree, where the parasite will inevitably again take over another host, and the cycle continues again. I like most interpretations, since the story allows for so many things to be true.

Mysterious Figure

You should watch Pluto if u'll have the time

Scar

(Long essay incoming... 😅) My understanding is that it disintegrated/evaporated after Mikasa killed Eren. I understand the power of the Titans to be a symbiotic relationship between the parasite and Ymir, a human. It was sustained by Ymir's undying presence in the timeless Paths dimension. There, she kept the power alive through the tree that connected all her Eldian subjects since the time of her death. She was the source of the power by building the bodies for use by shifters then "sending" it to them via the tree. In this symbiotic relationship, both the parasite and Ymir benefit. The parasite gets to survive and multiply - representing the unconscious drive of evolution. Ymir gets access to power (Titans) to serve and protect her King, family, and descendants. This relationship lasted for 2,000 years as Eldia grew into a mighty nation. As Eren explained to Armin, this power remained for 2,000 years because of Ymir's love (desire to be loved?) by the ancient King Fritz. I imagine Ymir was one of many wives and could have longed to be closer to him. That relationship dynamic is meant to mirror Mikasa's feeling for Eren. Both Ymir and Mikasa love someone despite their negative qualities. For Eren, it's his violence and aggression and for Fritz, it's his cruelty. Despite being mistreated, Ymir continues to serve King Fritz to an extreme level - she dies in his place and in her last moments of life, obeys his commands to continue to protect him, the nation, and her family. Ymir blindly obeys that command for 2,000 years until Eren inspires her to live for herself. Then, Ymir and Eren join together to carry out the genocide of humanity outside the walls. The alliance catches up to the Founding Titan as it has reached the point of slaughtering nearly 80% of humanity. Pushed to the limit, Mikasa makes her choice to no longer hold back and resolves to kill Eren. This choice is why the Titan power disappears. Mikasa was put into a similar position that Ymir was in 2,000 years ago. Ymir submitted to the King's will and dedicated herself to preserving his life and his wishes. Mikasa chose that despite her deep love for Eren, and her desire to be with him, his actions were too extreme to accept. She would not serve him blindly. Witnessing this, Ymir was inspired to do the same. She gave up her presence in the timeless realm of Paths. She let go of her duty to King and family and accepted death causing the Paths realm to be deleted. This ended the symbiotic relationship with the Parasite because it no longer had it's timeless host. Without that, it disintegrated or steamed away just as we saw Erwin, Hange, the Scouts, and Ymir dissipate along with the power of the Titans. As for the end credits scene with the boy... The parasite represents the unconscious drive of evolution. It's driven to survive at all costs. In 2,000 years the same being could have evolved into existence again. And the boy entering the cave will come into contact with it, creating another symbiotic relationship to start the cycle again. I am not sure I completely understand it myself, but that's my best attempt.

Jag_227

also did anyone notice the dog titan????? I thought that was so wierd until I saw the credit scene and its LITERALLY THE SAME DOG FROM THE FUTURE.

DeadLotus

From what I understood, this entire situation was pointless because no manner the sacrifice the cycle will once again start again. We don't even know if Ymir was even the first since we saw the events through her pov. This cycle of being a founder will always repeat itself and the only way to break it was to maybe destroy the ENTIRE body but since the ending message is love and having humanity, ultimately no one will kill the founder completely. It will be never-ending and that lowkey so depressing.

DeadLotus

What would be cool is if we get an AoT alternate season where Eren tries to save Paradis the "right" way (without committing genocide) and ended up failing and watching all his friends die. Then another rewatch of this season will give us another perspective.

Darren Pangan

1. Erwin 2. Levi 3. Reiner 4. Armin 5. Hange 6. Annie Also if you do a rewatch I think it would be better if you don’t have someone new watching. Then you can talk spoilers when you spot something you didn’t see before, or see a scene in a new light now you know how it ends.

Matthew

Please watch Steins Gate, it'll blow your mind

AA

In the manga, Gabi, Falco, Onyankopon, and Levi are just shown to be living in Marley and it shows Falco pushing Levi in his wheelchair. I actually prefer the version in the anime because it puts an emphasis on the rumbling’s environmental impact. Seeing them in the refugee camps, doing humanitarian work, and planting trees to prevent desertification makes it more meaningful imo

Rei

Just remembered one thing Im not sure I understood well in this show - the "alien" weird thing that is the source of all the titans - what killed it in the end? We've seen that Armin exploding didnt kill it, and Im not sure Im satisfied with the explanation that Eren's head being chopped off was what made it die? How does that work? I mean why didn't it die back when Gabby shot Eren's head off on Paradis then? Eren had the Founder inside him the whole time so Im confused. Does it die if the Founder titan dies, or not then? What killed it in the end? I mean, someone could also say it didnt actually die if we look at the post credits scene, but in that scene we cant know for sure if whatever is implied to be underneath the tree is the same "alien" that we saw turned into puddles of goo (which was clearly shown) after Mikasa chopped Erens head off and after Armin finished his memory sequence with Eren. Someone pls say something insightful.

Mysterious Figure

My hot take is that Gabi is in my top 3

Erich R

Refute it then if you're so literate.

Stevetheiguana

media literacy where

celery

The scene of Eren calling himself an idiot was added to the anime. When he says that he obviously gets at the truth but we all know it’s not that simple, I think a lot of it self hatred from Eren.

Max Grodman

I’m the manga there was a panel of gabi and falco pushing Levi’s wheelchair instead of the lollipop. Personally I think Levi gets a perfect conclusion

Max Grodman

Connie's joke is just "Eren's houes" in japanece is "Eren no ie ga" which sounds like Eren Jeagar... Ba Dum Tish... thats the joke... go listen to that joke again, he legit just screams "Eren JEAGAAAAAAA!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAH!"

Lurefax1

This is a common point of confusion. Eren saw glimpses of the future when he kissed historia’s (although we don’t know exactly what he saw) hand but he didn’t exist in all time at once until he became the founding Titan when the rumbling started. Also Eren lied to Mikasa about the Ackerman reflex thing

Max Grodman

I think the scene in s2e12 where Eren promises Mikasa that he'll wrap the scarf around her as many times as she wants now and forever was quite romantic imo. The score, the purple bellflowers (which symbolize gratitude, humility, everlasting love, and death), the way time slowed down and the overall atmosphere made it feel very romantic or at least close to what could be considered romantic in Aot. I hope y'all read the manga to see all the little details and subtleties and changes between the manga and anime. Like in chapter 1, there's a panel showing Grisha looking off to the side as if he saw something right before walking out of the house, foreshadowing that future Eren was indeed there all the way back in chapter 1. Also in chapter 1, Eren's long dream was Mikasa telling him "See you later, Eren" just like in the cabin scene in the finale. It’s actually really cute because when Eren wakes up he’s blushing because he just woke up from dreaming about Mikasa kissing him. Isayama’s attention-to-detail is insane.

Rei

Erwin is and will always remain the GOAT because of his impact with the little screen time he had. For a character to be that hyped and that loved in this fandom makes me so damn happy. He’s a fan favorite and deserves it. He was just a man with a dream. Nothing complex, nothing simple. He was surrounded by godly beings, and eager children and still remained the power house. If they do a what if for Erwin and the colossal Titan, that would be my end to AOT. Until then, it will never be over.

JessW

Erwin Smith and Levi will always be top 2. But Eren and Reiner are just goated in season 4 on. But the Levi moments will always be the hype.

JessW

Her arc teaches us that if you bully and throw rocks at a girl then she’ll eventually marry you ig

ssj4rit

If the past and future can't change, then it takes away the agency of everything you do in the present. In the finale, Eren breaks down to Armin, crying and saying he wants to be with Mikasa, Armin, and the rest of his friends. Why couldn't he? Why did it HAVE to be 80% gone and Eren dying? Ymir and the founder powers are basically god powers, they're incredibly OP. Without the alliance, the rumbling could not be stopped unless Eren or Ymir did it themselves. Eren could have wiped the memories of the rumbling ever happening, hence nobody would gang up to stop him. Eren spoke of not wanting to leave everyone's fate to chance, which is exactly what he did with the 80% solution. In season 1, Pyxis talks with Eren about the concept of humanity uniting against a non-human outside force to stop conflict and such, akin to Eren's plan of being the big bad to make Armin and the rest look like heroes. Eren himself calls this plan overly optimistic and thinks it wouldn't work. At the end of a 100% rumbling, Eren could hypothetically release the titan curse as well. Eren talks about not being ever forgiven as a reason why he can't come back, but that wouldn't really be an issue if you could wipe memories. Besides, most of the Eldians agreed with Eren's plan anyhow, and the opinions of the rest of the world wouldn't have mattered since they'd all be dead.

Stevetheiguana

Do you guys remember when Eren fought the Warhammer Titan and the Warhammer Titan asked "any last words?" Eren replied "do it now Mikasa." Now it seems this was a foreshadowing, an unspoken last word when Eren looked at Mikasa before he died, he did want Mikasa to kill him.

Unika Ang

See that last line is what I don't buy. Just one example but if he simply stopped after beating the militaries, did Eren even have the free will to stop? If the answer is no I have serious problems with taking agency away from the protagonist, especially given his character. I just happened to watch Garnt's (Gigguk) video on the ending and it pretty much epitomizes what I'm trying to say. Great show, great themes, but I really got into the show because of Eren tbh and I think Isayama had a theme about the nature of man and bullshit but not a protagonist who fit his point. Honestly it seems like he hates his own character lmfao.

CHIEF

I think the point you are missing is that Eren cant change anything because he is the one that made the decisions to do what he did. Hes burdened by memories of the future, but the outcome was his will. He cant change anything because he made the choices himself. and in this universe the past and future cannot change. The tragedy of his character is that since he saw that future, his entire purpose is consumed by moving forward in order to reach that future he saw where the titan powers are gone and his friends are safe. In season 3 before he kisses historias hand he says “i would gladly give my life if it meant i could change something” and this finale is the culmination of that quote. He desperately wanted to do something different, but this plan was the best he could come up with.

David

Historia was the best developed female character in the whole series, and it was sad how she was cast aside. The entire sub-plot with her baby was a completely waste as well. They made it seem like that was going to be of some importance to the story, and nope, the baby is just a normal baby, the father wasn't anyone we know, just some farmer who's name we don't even know. I feel like Isayama had planned something more interesting with that reveal, and then got rushed with the ending and tossed it out.

Stevetheiguana

The "I can't change the timeline" schtick is because of the time manipulation mechanics that Isayama introduced. Otherwise the plot holes with that become apparent, especially when they throw in the twist of Eren killing his mom with Dina's titan. If Eren can control ANY titan throughout history, that opens so many possibilities to change the future significantly, it's very OP. Obviously that would bring up questions like why didn't Eren do this or that then? It's easy to just explain that all away by saying that Eren couldn't do that because the timeline can't be changed because, well, it just can't ok. Besides that, my biggest gripe with pre-determination and fate based timelines is that it detracts from the aspect of free will from characters and lessens their motivations as reason for doing things. Instead of a character's actions being difficult choices that they came to on their own, they're doing these things because that's how the timeline is supposed to be. Grisha told Zeke that he saw Eren's memories of the future and how awful they were, and that Zeke has to stop Eren. If Grisha wanted to stop Eren, why did he kill the Reiss family for him? Why did he proceed to give Eren the attack titan? Grisha didn't have free will with that choice and just HAD to give Eren the titan because otherwise the plot wouldn't work?

Stevetheiguana

Personally i thought Zekes conclusion was one of the most beautiful scenes in the show.

David

I wish they included this in the anime.

kingkoopa98

The bloody 2000 year legacy of Titan curses happened because Ymir couldn't get over her "love" for her abuser? She had to wait 2000 years for Mikasa to inspire her? Can't Ymir see the future? Why did she need to wait for that to happen to see it? When Ymir died from the spear, she let herself die instead of healing. If she loved Fritz or her children so much, why would she let herself die and lose the will to live? Almost as if that was a retcon... Ymir->Fritz and Eren->Mikasa had little in common. If all Ymir needed to move on was to see an example of a woman moving on from an abusive or unhealthy relationship, why did it HAVE to be Mikasa? You're telling me Ymir couldn't observe ANY instance of this happening in 2000 years? Mikasa didn't even really move on, sure she killed Eren, but she never got over her love for him. She carried his scarf to her grave, visited Eren's grave quite often. How is that a parallel to Ymir moving on from Fritz and realizing that he was actually an evil piece of shit?

My top would be: 1.Mikasa 2.Eren 3.Armin The last episode did it for me for these 3. Levi could be swithed wih Armin though, but as I said, last EP cemented my views on these 3 Also for anyone who has not, I recommend reading the first pages of the manga. The "see you later" scene was in this first chapter, WIT removed it in the anime for some reason

W3ll4n

Fully agree!

Thiivi

Definitely would’ve felt more organic/real, not only did they remove some mikasa content, but they also full on switched around some of admins moments with mikasa, like in the waaayy beginning when eren first comes out of his Titan form, armin is the one to go down and pull him out and like cry on him, but in the anime they just switched it to mikasa being the one, wit was legendary but they kinda purposefully made mikasa way more dependent on eren as a character. Either way tho 10/10 the music and animation more than makes up for it imo 🦦

Kale

Overall 9/10 btw I was saying this belongs in the convo with breaking bad and the other goats before the ending and nothing changed, there are tons of themes that are fantastic throughout the show, this ^ one thing was just a gripe or confusion, maybe the ONLY thing the whole show I didn't love.

CHIEF

My top : 1. Eren 2. Reiner 3. Levi

Audreyldo

I'm still not sold on the explanation at the end of what Eren COULD do once he touched Zeke. Yeah yeah visions and "I tried to change things" okay but once the other militaries were gone was Ymir using him? Was the worm in control? Hypothetically was he able to build his body back, come out and start talking to people again? I mean seriously, for me, the metaphysical stuff takes me out when it stops having real world effects. The whole point of his character (to me) was being backed into a corner and his entire people about to die when he's been unable to do anything to protect them up until this point (Levi squad when Annie is chasing them, "trust us"), so he casts them aside to protect them because he's powerful enough to do what he wants, but that entire point goes away because the point seems to be he couldn't change anything? Idk it's just a narrative outlook and theme that I don't like in any media.

CHIEF

Omg so excited to watch this

Audreyldo

Really surprised that Zeke is so underrated in everyone's character rankings. He's easily one of my favorites, the only character who finds a different solution other than Eren's genocide. Yes, he's very hateable but I think s4 does a lot to show you his motivations, and how his father's neglect/abuse shaped him to have the ideology he has. To me, such a well-written character in a show that's just packed with them.

Connor O'Hara

Its funny that opinions really can differ Ange from carlie and ange said s4 is the worst, still good, but it lowered the series for him

Chrisiyyi

I said it in one of the videos on YouTube but I'll say it again here. Watching your videos, especially the AoT videos, were like sitting down with the buds hanging out everyday. It definitely brought some normalcy to my days this past year. Can't wait to see who you bring on for another AoT reaction!

Andrew Timmerman

Thank you guys. Definitely worth my 2 hours.

BipolarKitten

Sadly WIT removed a lot of important Mikasa moments in the first three seasons from what I've heard. Might have made the Eren/Mikasa relationship feel a bit more organic if they hadn't

Thiivi

Omg, YAS! Their videos on AOT are amazing!

Erina

Agree 10/10. Best anime so far. Would LOVE see your guys’ reaction to Under the Tree (full version), the opening and ending songs of Season 4 part 3. The closing song kills me till this day.

Carter mentioned being excited for all the video essays regarding the show, so here's just one of my favorite ones that cane out recently regarding the ending: (This one focuses primarily on one of the discussion yall had regarding parallels between Mikasa and Ymir) https://youtu.be/HQ3uHh9OGAw?si=Cs3c0zDSSo_UfLLJ Regarding Canno's question abt why Eren never had an “accidental touch” with historia and spoiled himself too early, my personal explanation for that is, remember how the Attack Titan has the ability to peak into the memories of the future, but its thanks to the founder, that hes able to also send memories to the past(like he did to manipulate grisha into killing the reiss family) So, even if he did touch Historia or Dina(smiling titan battle S2), the reason he never got any memories up until that very last moment was because Eren from the future sent those memories back himself using the Attack Titans ability. There is however another instance where he does unlock some memories when coming in contact with Rod Reiss and Historia in the chapel, however those are memories of the past that were just lost, so those becoming accessible isn’t anything remarkable, Its the memories of the future that require the Attack Titans ability. One of another discussions that a patreon brought up was “the head being messed up” due to Eren not being Royal, but personally I believe that doesnt exactly affect the “amount of messed up” as that whole power being locked behind royal blood is just a really vivid example of Ymir continuing being a slave to King Fritz and his blood. So its not a technical requirement, but an emotional bound that Ymir herself created. Same as her curse, the inheritors of the 9 titans dying 13 years after inheritance is also not due to running out if energy, or something like that, but the curse is yet another symbolism of the fact that Ymir herself got killed by the spear, 13 years after she came in touch with that being inside that tree that gave her the power. All these rules and mechanics of the titan power are themed around her But then again, these are just my interpretations and with a story like AoT, theres infinite room to imagine and find your own truth and understandings of all them phenomenons Oh also one last thing, yall mentioned the joke that good ol lord conner made in Return to Shiganshina arc “the erens house is eavesdropping” the joke is actually in erens name, because its “Erens Jaegar” and the word for someone's house in JP is also pronounced very closely to “Jaegaa” so the joke was something along the lines of “You guys dont think that one of the House Bertholdt is setting on fire is Erens Jaegaaaaa” but obv as you can tell it just doesnt work in translation at all lmao so idk what crunchyroll meant there by eavesdropping 😂

Sheru

Armin’s transformation in Assault is underrated

Maeve

Mikasa Eren Levi Reiner Armin

Maeve

Omg, the way I read that, I thought you meant she ended up marrying Armin. 🤢

Alexis Hunting

I’m so glad y’all enjoyed the ending. Like you mentioned, such an elaborate, nuanced story could have been easily fumbled, and wasn’t meant to satisfy everyone. A 2 hour review just demonstrates how insane this show is. I can’t wait for future rewatches - this show is too great not to share with others!

Alexis Hunting

I love season 4 but season 3 will always be my favorite

Jayden Hart

Idk why but I loved how most of the guys put Reiner as their top 3 😭 baby boi deserves all the love and praise! My top 5 characters would be 1) Reiner 2) Armin 3) Falco 4) Levi 5) Eren

The reason the Connie's joke didn't make sense was because it couldn't really be translated properly. What he actually said was "Maybe one of the houses above us is Eren's house" and in japanese Eren's house is pronounced "Eren Iega" or something like that and it sounds really similar to Eren's actual name "Eren Jaeger" so Connie was making a pun seeing as they sound so similar.

Denzel Mwandha

I think plenty of people share your opinion, though plenty of people also argue that her arc was over. I personally didn’t hate or care for her that much, so I was fine with that

Maybe controversial but it was really disappointing how Historia went from one of the most interesting and active characters in S3 to just being inactive throughout S4.

ssj4rit

Jackson is him. Gourmet choices with characters. Annie was definitely top 3 for me in first season (still top 5 after the end). And I love that he put Armin there. For me it is: 1. Erwin (no competition even without being in season 4) 2. Armin 3. Reiner (I would usually put Annie or Mikasa here but Reiner overtook after they animated last 2 movies)

kaan

and Armin at 4

Kite

my top 🫡: 1. Erwin 2. Reiner 3. Levi

Kite

Yes, so good!

Adee

The way I interpreted Eren calling himself an idiot is that he has always been childish and headstrong. Because of his wild nature he's always made "dumb" decisions. Always charging into danger even when he didn't have to. He was also always saying childish things. "I'm gonna kill them all" "I want to kill more" "I'm gonna make you 2 suffer imaginable pain." So once he got his hands on power, he continued with his childish statements and killed them all lol

Val

Since it’s not confirmed if Mikasa did end up with anyone, I have a theory that the man with Mikasa in the end credits was Armin (there is official art of Armin with his hair styled like Jean and in a suit) and I think Mikasa might have adopted one of the children from the Orphanage that Historia was running. There is also the theory that the ring Mikasa was wearing in her death was a promise/purity ring and the flowers she was surrounded by are a symbol of purity. I hope she was able to move on and fall in love but I think this also could be a high possibility. Maybe she found her happiness in just having a child.

At minute 19 right now when y'all bring up the Ackerman powers. In the Manga it was actually explained, but they didn't adapt it to the anime. Ackermans are the byproduct of Titan experimentation. That's why they're so strong, because when they awaken they basically gain titan powers but in human form. Not only does it explain their insane strength, but also their healing. Mikasa broke ribs and was still working out a couple days later. Hange also mentions it when she stitches up Levi cuz no normal human is surviving that lol
