It always alluded me as a kid that the significance of Aang killing the giant vulture wasp is that he’s a vegetarian because the main belief of the monks is all life is sacred. So for a vegetarian to kill an animal for no other purpose was peak subtle character details!

2023-11-16 18:37:04 +0000 UTCYeah, Aang was a bit annoying here, but I kinda understand. He's an immensely angry 12-year-old with nowhere to direct it. Like he said, he couldn't control it. There was one point in my own life where something happened, and, no matter what was going on, I just couldn't get my mind off of what happened. I wasn't angry, but I was grieving immensely. Someone I knew was, at the time, in a potentially life-threatening situation that put them in the hospital for a few days, and I and the doctors didn't know what was going on for that first day or two. Fortunately, that person ended up not having anything serious going on, and they were released without issue, but those days they were in the hospital were the darkest days of my life so far. So, in a way, I can kind of relate to Aang feeling and acting how he did.

They all need each other. So it's hard to play the comparison game but if I had to, I don't think it's possible to find a higher utility player than Appa tbh. Their entire journey is just a non-starter without him, everything becomes completely impossible.
