2023-11-27 00:06:29 +0000 UTCLaw of Equivalent Exchange is basically just to create something you need something of equal worth. They cant just create things out of nothing. That is also why the philosophers stone is so amazing cause it can seemingly just create matter out of "nothing". Notice how every time they transmute a spear or weapon ,the ground or wall that the weapon gets created from gets diminished slightly . Sometimes we see Ed turn his automail arm into a sword and thats within the possibility of the Law of Equivalent Exchange as he just changes the shape of his arm into a sword. The way they initiate a transmutation is always with a transmutation circle(unless you've seen Truth). So Roy only carved the circle into his hand cause he lost the glove which he used for ignition and circle which was drawn on it. Thats also why he used a lighter.

They can both trust each other with each other's lives. Riza was so devastated when she thought Roy was gone. I think the author of the manga was told she had to tone it down on the boobie jokes for this fight lol. I have my own explanation for the humunculi/philosophers stones but I'll hold off for another 5 episodes till I say my piece

2023-11-24 23:37:37 +0000 UTCThe episode with the boys on the island explains equivalent exchange really well. In the last bit before the end credits (i think) it talks about the food chain. How if him or Al were to die they would eventually decompose and become part of the grass, which the animals would eat and would make a part of themselves. This is essentially what alchemy is. Breaking something down and turning it into something else of equal "value". (Scar only does the breaking down part and view the creation to be sinful) Value in terms of how much matter you use. For example, an alchemist could take raw branches from a tree and turn it into a desk or table. Or Roy, who creates a spark when he snaps with his ignition glove and uses alchemy to move the air around him to manipulate the flames.
