Reminiscent of a famous painting of Mary holding Jesus' body after he was taken off the cross. Because of how electricity flows and the negative state of the earth, the lightning went through Aang's body at his back and out his foot.

For example, The Serpent's Pass and The Drill were originally broadcasted on Nickelodeon as a 1-hour special titled The Secret of the Fire Nation (which refers to the drill; Suki mentions the Fire Nation is supposedly building something in secret on the other side of the lake and ont want anyone to find out).
