It’s not about these superficial qualities nor the flashy fights that this show excels in, that much is obvious. It’s more about the wonders of discovery and the dangers that lie within the unknown which mirrors the reality of our lives. If you don’t like it, just drop it. Don’t force yourself. I didn’t like FMAB but was able to finish it just to understand its appeal. I still didn’t like it in the end because for me, alchemy as a premise suggests that the show can’t be taken seriously. If you don’t like a show, you can’t force yourself to like it.

2023-12-04 00:25:26 +0000 UTClong time lurker here but some hxh fans are notorious for overhyping the show on reaction channels, and as soon as someone disagrees with the hivemind like yourself they criticize your taste. people can dislike the show (or aspects of it) and they're entitled to their own opinion. With that being said I will say to just enjoy the anime as it is without falling into the hype as you will enjoy it more that way. This is especially true for chimera ant arc - possibly the most overhyped arc imo. Not because it's bad, it was quite decent but it didn't really deserve the constant hype and praise. I think believing the hype from the community surrounding this arc inevitably killed my enjoyment the first time around. It's by no means a perfect anime as some will claim so don't let that become your expectation.

All those things are definitely ruining my immersion but Im pushing through the things I dont like so I can see it through to the end and see why so many people like it. The thing that baffles me is that there are better shows out there with a great story, characters, great visual design, awesome fluid and cool fight animations and choreography, but everyone wanted the boys to first watch this show. I mean, in a way it's better for me because I havent watched HxH before so Im having a new experience too, but I think among the BIG THREE any of them would have been a better choice over this in my opinion.

2023-12-03 20:32:49 +0000 UTCI will say this right at the outset, if you dwell too much on the character designs and character names (Togashi does give weird names to his characters!!), you will not enjoy this show. During my first viewing, even I was sceptical of the character names and designs (they looked funny/weird to me), but I will advise you to move past that and look at the story. If you are unable to do that, I don't think you will be able to enjoy this show or arc. Given that this is also a fantasy, the author has taken the liberty with his character designs. There are many more weird characters to come in the future, but looking past their looks and focusing on the essence of their character will help in the journey. Otherwise, you will always be bothered by the visuals and not the actual content of the story

They need time to watch, edit, and upload… They also all have lives outside of doing this stuff my guy… Brig is a D1 athlete, Canon works long hours in a sales job, McKay works long hours as well, Jack has a job too but im not sure what it is, and im 99% sure Carter also has a job but hes never said anything about it. Plus to top that all off I also think some of them are in college still… Lower your expectations a bit and relax. Not everyone has as much free time to consume media as you do my guy. Enjoy what we get and respect their hustle, im tired of seeing this shit on every post they make.

2023-12-03 13:25:49 +0000 UTCits ranked so highly because this arc is one of the best of all time, the premise is strong, the world building is top tier, the pacing bar a couple moments is solid and the character development is some of the best in shonen, i find it weird that you would think names of characters are a negative in the show and as far as standout fights, chrollo vs zoldycks, gon hisoka, the whole yorknew night, kurapika vs uvogin, uvogin vs the shadow beasts, and regardless of all that the best fights of the series are in this arc, the best character development, and f you dont like the art style thats really just personal preference and im not sure what fear your looking for out of anime, in which bar erens mom titan, fear visually is pretty non existent in anime

If only it didnt have character designs straight out of pokemon... a man that looks like a bear, a man named "Dinner", a girl named "Bannana", another kid with teeth like a rat. It all looks so childish from a visual standpoint. Even those chimera ants look like pokemon. How am I supposed to take them seriously? Even when they eat little kids it feels like a cartoon and not like something Im supposed to be terrified of. Been trying to find out what ppl like so much about this show for 77 eps now but everything about it is not my cup of tea I guess. There have been almost no standouts when it comes to cool animated fights in this show. There have been like less than 5 total fights that were sakuga quality level animation. Im still watching tho just to see why Im so blind to this perspective everyone else has about this show in the hopes to find something Im missing. The Nen system tho is something I find is well integrated in the story and has already shown that it can single handedly carry the writing of the whole show (at least for me). Also, I kind of like Gon's character so there's that too.

In my opinion the only defaults would be the slow pacing (still this is totally worth it to be patient) and the fact that they didn't introduce kite since the first episode like the 1999 version. But personally this is my top1 favorite arc and even top1 favorite serie among all the series, animes that I watched. It's a very intense arc, the depth of the story, the characters, the emotions, the fights, the storytelling, the narrator, the music themes and so much more!

It's an arc so good that overall the show's like a 9/10 for me now despite me not being thaaat crazy about the first 70-whatever episodes, which just goes to show how sick this arc is. Enjoy boys.

The Truth is, he is the laziest manga writer in Japanese big magazines. He has been "skipping work" for various reasons, sometimes, he discontinued HxH for a year because "he wants to play new Final Fantasy". Some episode of HxH is nothing but "doodle" because he didn't want to write. (The publisher still published his "doodle" on the magazine because people were waiting) The only reason that HxH is not cancelled by the publisher, despite the fact he has accumulated more than 5 years of absence on the magazine called "weekly" JUMP, is because HxH is that good, people are waiting, and is worth to pay him a annual contract money. Maybe he IS sick right now, and I would also wait for him to write again even it takes 30 years from now, but I thought you should guys know about his history. And also why he hasn't write only stories and let someone do the drawings, is he doesn't like the others to draw his manga. In professional manga business, usually the author only write stories and draw main characters. the rest of drawing, the other characters, the scenery, etc, are drawn by the assistants. But Togashi is famous for not hiring the assistants. He likes to draw almost everything by himself. There is no way that he let others to finish HxH.

But just in case you don’t, in the 1999 version the first episodes showcases Gon and Kites meeting in more detail. If it was shown in the 2011 I think it would’ve established a deeper connection between kite and Gon and would’ve made their meeting seem a little less random, but despite that ur not missing out on a whole lot just thought you guys should know.

This arc truly showcases Togashi’s incredible storytelling ability, employing a wealth of nuance and creating thought-provoking parallels. Togashi delves deeply into varies philosophical themes which I won’t mention just yet to avoid spoilers. But I will say is that this arc is sort of a reflection or analogous of the real world, where the line between good and evil becomes blurred, portraying life as intricately gray, full of complexities and subtleties. I could write an entire essay about this arc and its profound themes, but I’ll save my yapping for later. One last thing worth noting is the phenomenal music in this arc. Yoshihisa Hirano, the composer, could open a 3-star Michelin restaurant with the way he was cooking. Fun fact, he also composed several iconic songs for Death Note, most notably the main theme and L’s theme.
