2023-12-12 06:15:27 +0000 UTCI believe the actual reason though is that Ed is the one who bound Al to the armor and so he's the only one who can repair it because he has knowledge of how his soul was bound to the suit. I don't remember which episode but one episode after Al gets broken he says something alluding to this.

2023-12-12 04:07:04 +0000 UTCwhy Ed can't fix his own arm is one of those things that make you feel dumb when you realize If he has no arm then he can't clap to use alchemy lol, it's also why after that one fight Ed didn't fix Al up for many many episodes because he had to go get his arm fixed first

I think it's super complicated and would probably immobalize most of his arm if he changes it too much. That's why you only see Ed change the surface of his automail.
