To answer Carter's question about what would happen to Alicent, or what her title would be, if Viserys were to pass without her son being named heir. Right now she's queen consort, which just means wife to a ruling king. Once he died, if Rhaenyra were to stay his heir, Alicent would become a queen dowager (which basically just means a former king's widow). If her son were to have been named heir before Viserys died, and he died while the child was still underage or otherwise too young to be a king in his own right, she'd become a queen regent, which just means she'd rule in her son's name until he was old enough to become king and rule (or she could name someone else, like her father, to rule as regent in her place). Finally if her son was named heir and Viserys died when the boy was already of age, she'd become queen mother which is luckily self-explanatory 😂

@Huxley Point isn't that Otto was pretty much right, the key factor here is also the intention behind his actions. Rhaenyra's virtue being put into question is, indeed, a political nightmare, and any wise advisor would warn the king about what happened. Otto had always been an efficient Hand of the King, even if always a bit self-serving at times (then again, most nobles at court in Westeros are at least a little bit), but at this point of the story, there's a clear conflict of interest. Otto isn't doing all these things out of the goodness of his heart and loyalty to the king/kingdom, he is totally waiting/looking for opportunities to advance Aegon's claim and will 100% undermine Rhaenyra along the way to do so. Rhaenyra knows it, Alicent knows it, the king knows it too. Since he was still intent on having Rhaenyra as heir, Viserys did the right thing for once by sending Otto away lol

SORT OF SPOILER WARNING: The three wild dragons are mentioned by Daemon later in the show, which means we could potentially see them in the upcoming season. One of these dragons is known as the Cannibal and he's speculated to be larger than Balerion (partially due to him being free and eating other dragons). It would truly be something to see the scale of such a creature in the show.

Right? I'm surprised that some people expected Rhaenyra to tell Alicent the whole truth in that case. Alicent is, first and foremost, Otto Hightower's daughter. Alicent literally married Rhaenyra's damn father because Otto made her worm her way into the King's chambers during the man's grief (which Alicent kept a secret for like a whole half-year), and she now has a son that Otto desperately wants to place on the Iron Throne instead of Rhaenyra. Those girls may be friends, but trusting Alicent with the truth, in this case, would've been an objectively stupid decision on Rhaenyra's part tbh

Not me SCREAMING at Viserys “Daemon doesn’t give af about the throne, he’s trying to save the Targaryen House you weakling!!” The Targ power move was always to Wed Rhaenyra and Daemon years ago. Get a football team of PURE Targaryens and nobody would f^ck with them. Instead Viserys allied with Otto over his brother and it broke the relationship. Viserys needs to grasp Daemon’s trying to piss him off out of anger/hurt. And be respectful that Daemon’s care for Rhaenyra stopped him from deflowering her. He has caused all of this. also cannon, the comment on Balerion's size is false. Valyria was the only region that had dragons and could control them and the Targaryens were just one house of many others who could do so. The doom of Valyria refers to an event in which the volcanoes in Valyria erupted all at once causing a massive fire that wiped out the entire region and all its dragons and people except Aegon, his two sisters, and their dragons. All prior records on dragons and Valyria have been lost in the fire so we do not truly know the sizes of other dragons or other houses who could control them like the Targaryens, but many speculate Balerion is not the biggest one that ever existed. Dragons grow bigger when they are allowed to roam freely, something they got to do in Valyria so no doubt there was definitely some bigger ones out there. If you pay attention throughout the show you will notice the Targaryens keep their dragons in a cave-like structure which prevents them from roaming freely which is why their dragons will probably never reach Balerion size.

loving the long discussions on these episodes!! i lovee the moral ambiguity in this show. almost every character of importance we’ve met has made good and bad decisions. if rhaenyra hadn’t made such bad decisions this ep, i think her character would have fallen kind of flat honestly. but it’s because of these decisions that she feels so much more genuine and grounded to the audience. my girl was just tew horny and she knew she was gettin that hot d one way or another 😔

Targaryens are the only ones in the realm allowed to wed family. They believe they have dragon blood and need to maintain it pure in order to control dragons which makes sense considering dragons can sniff out a Targaryen with their nose so there is definitely a connection there. Aegon the conqueror wed both his sisters and their kids wed each other if I'm not mistaken (it's been a while since I read the book) but I do remember it being a whole ordeal in the kingdom as it was an insult to their religion and overall just gross so they started a rebellion in hopes to overthrow Aegon and his family, buuuuuut they had dragons... pretty sure Aegon burnt a chunk of the kingdom with Balerion until they realized he was standing on business and just accepted incestuous Targaryen marriages, but they are the only ones allowed to do that.

Just for clarification, Yes, the Targaryens do wed brother and sister. Rhaenyra’s own parents were cousins, and Aegon the Conqueror wed both his sisters. It was their tradition to keep their “blood lines pure” This helps them control the dragons. If Targaryen blood starts to dwindle they lose that ability. It is seen as “strange” by the other houses in the seven kingdoms and is only allowed for Targaryens. The rest of the houses at most will marry a cousin which is seen as “normal” for that time period
