Sub vs dub is a big debate but for me neither one is better 100%. You could argue that one is better overall but each does certain things better in my opinion. For example specific lines by certain characters convey more power/emotion in dub/sub than the other. Overall it just depends on your taste and how you prefer certain characters to act. For example in Shippuden some of the villains deliver goated speeches and sound badass as hell in dub (like a certain speech about cycles or the speeches about the world by the goated DUO later on). But the same happens in sub just with a different nuance/style.

Atsushi Wakabayashi (in-house) and Norio Matsumoto (freelance but close collaborator with AW) are two of the main staff for Naruto's standout action episodes. But you're right it is a thing with long running shows like Naruto where these directors are asked to work on an important moment or fight once every 20-40 or so episodes, since creating episodes like these take the most amount of time.

In shounen manga/anime, where the audience is primarily young, it becomes even MORE important to write strong, interesting and relatable female characters (luckily we are seeing more of this in new gen anime). Naruto is a story with significant influence, especially on younger males. Therefore, handling the portrayal of female characters with care is essential, given of how impressionable a young audience can be. We've seen the negative effects of poorly written female characters, such as Sakura, have on young men. So having well-developed female characters will contribute depth and complexity to the story while breaking misconceptions and adding representation and inclusion. Furthermore, by exploring their personalities, motivations, and story arcs, they become more than being just plot devices or love interests for male characters, but instead offer fresh and unique perspectives and dynamics. Depicting women as capable, independent, and complex individuals is not only beneficial in dispelling harmful misconceptions, but could also help the prevention of having such misogynistic views. Often, the primary focus of main female characters in Naruto revolves around seeking love and attention from their male counterparts. While the pursuit of love is a valid goal, when it becomes the only purpose or role behind a character, regardless of gender, it results in one-dimensional and uninteresting characters.

Kishimoto certainly cannot write women, but there’s a difference between being incompetent at writing women and actively hating women. Are the female characters in Naruto poorly written? Yes, very. Do many of them adhere to sexist tropes? Yes. Is Kishimoto himself sexist because of this? No. Is Kishimoto sexist? Maybe, I honestly wouldn’t know. Objectively it's not though, naruto is literally for kids. Fmab is actually a mature story and therefore will always be better, especially as it's executed really well from a storytelling perspective. In any case, the issue is with the frequency of the uploads and how wildly inconsistent they are. 33 naruto eps in a month.. it took 5 months to get the same for fmab. Most of the women's main drives and plots are about the men in their life, not anything regarding what they want to do or strive to be. Lmao chuunin in anime sent me 🤣🤣 But actually, and Cannon I love you and I might actually give you chuunin in shounen anime despite not having finished any of the big classics yet, but respectfully, the fact that your guys experience can be roughly summed up as shounen type shows + studio ghibli + silent voice and your name means that when it comes to anime in general you are genin at best 🤣 And looking at how the polls usually go you guys probably wont get to watch anything but relatively typical shounen for many more months 😂🥲. Regarding the episodes the animation and direction for episode 30 cooked. It’s usually how it goes in Naruto, that every once in a while they go hard on an episode. I’m pretty sure that they outsourced those eps and made sure for there to be enough of a budget to make it epic, which is also why the artstyle is so inconsistent with the usual episodes. This is the case for some of the best episodes in the series tho, so there is definitely some to look forward to

Not every female character in Naruto has been written badly, I actually can’t think of one. Sakura is not dumb, actually she is pretty smart and they tell us that all the time. She is just not as strong as Naruto, Saskue or her classmates. I think the biggest issue we all have with Sakura is, that she lives in her own world, where her biggest problem is seeking Saskues attention/love and would do anything (e.g. ending her friendship with her first friend) to do that - but then again she is 12 years old

I just like how in dub Shikamaru's saying is, "What a drag." His monotone English VA is a lot funnier than the sub. The sub just doesn't do his absolute disdain for everything justice. I was forced to watch the end of Shippuden in subbed since I couldn't wait for the dubbed to be released. I ended up enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. This might have been said already, but in Japan, there is a lot more significance to hair than in the US. In ancient times, cutting off one's hair was an act of purification or renewal after hardship or illness. In modern times, girls will cut their hair after a breakup or loss. It signifies starting anew and breaking away from bad habits. Sometimes in anime, these moments, while insignificant to foreigners, actually depict Japanese culture in a way that only the Japanese (or those who study or live it) are aware of. As a child, watching this, I was mostly unmoved at this scene because I would often have my hair cut to my shoulders after having let it grow long (it grew super fast). But when reading a manga (that I can't remember the name of), it explained the significance behind Japanese women cutting their hair and I finally understood what this moment meant for Sakura. It's not just Sakura getting out of a tough situation, but it's her letting go of her tight grasp on staying feminine in favor of becoming a ninja her teammates can rely on.

I think I share the same sentiment that we don’t want you guys staying super late and getting burned out watching Naruto. But maybe more reactions sprinkled during the week would be awesome because it is 700+ episodes. agreed, at least for og naruto, the script for sub gets better in shippuden. Regardless of the translation though, for the majority of characters they're voice actors are good in both sub & dub

it really does suck how badly the sub translation ruins so many of the big moments, this is the one show where the dub fits the characters and the moments so much better... only naruto's dub voice is a little annoying early on
