Most ppl prob prefer ghost but I’ve watched parts of Shippuden over and over again because of the masked man. It’s impossible to summarize it here but a central theme of the story is love and specifically “restoring” love. The links between the masked man and morals in the show make me feel a connection to him that I haven’t felt for another character. Some label him a “simp” and I understand that on a surface level. But when you really think about the show in its entirety and the generations of conflict over what a “world of love” should exist as, it’s more accurate to describe him as a “harbinger” or “restorer” of love.

I have gone and watched all the episodes for myself already and I am disappointed. It is probably the most overrated anime I have ever seen. Worse than average writing. Now that I am thinking about all the conflicts in the whole anime, most of them have been just talking 90% of the time, and 10% animated action, with the rest of the time being still images posing as "action". It's just embarrassingly bad. People here have been praising the Nen system so much, but most characters only ever use just one ability, even the strongest characters in the whole anime basically spam only one skill, and the rest of the time they spend yapping. It's obvious the writer was writing this story as he went along, and didn't have a concept of what he wanted to say from the start. But at least I have now watched it for myself so I know how bad it is.
