It's tough. I understand Netflix wanting some flexibility in not being backed into a corner with a 1 to 1 adaption of the show, much the same Disney faced with making films that would follow the post RotJ era and not following the existing stories in the EU. My biggest issue if the flow of the story by chopping up the episodes from season 1 and now even season 2 in regards to Avatar State episode and Avatar day episode and mixing them together. The thing with Suki(episode highlight) makes me think that being a Kyoshi warrior means you don't get romantically involved with men.

Well said. Everyone has a right to their opinion, and to defend it and challenge it against others that they disagree with. That’s an important part of being a fan in the first place, to engage. I also agree that Netflix ATLA isn’t completely terrible. It has many, many issues but it certainly has it’s moments. As you said, so many beloved IPs are in a really bad spot right now. Hollywood is bankrupts and on fire, generally speaking. I think it’s important that we do our part as fans - express our opinions, whether they support or criticize a piece of media, and discuss amongst ourselves & fan communities.

i agree with you that we should be able to critique the characters, stories, and adaptions; but to say this show hasnt had anything good to it is blasphemy imo. watching it through i dont think its amazing and the best we couldve gotten, but we cant change anything now and lately real fans have no power over production studios across all genres. i cant even begin to explain the issues w marvel dc and other franchises. but i believe this adaptation didnt do a terrible job.

The live-action version of this storyline completely missed just about every beat, moral, and lesson that each character learns & experiences in the original episode... Not to mention, this show had about an hour of runtime, whereas the cartoon did it in 20 minutes. This live-action episode exposes the incompetent writing that is prevalent throughout the entire series.

Maybe, but there's nothing wrong with having a basic-level standard for the stories and characters you love. It's useful & interesting to articulate those issues and criticize adaptations that you think don't meet the same quality of the original work, especially when they change so much from the original. last thing i will say, is i understand all the frustration with the show. throughout watching it i call out whats different, i say what i dont like and the changes that i disagree with. but overall its amazing to see a live action portrayal that is way closer to the og and many of the actors behind the roles love the show j as much. having a huge amount of people just blantly calling it all horrible and hating on anything that they have created is ridiculous!! real fans can appreciate the hard work/money they put into this. but again if u cant handle it then just leave it be 🩷

Kyoshi possessing Aang is clearly a replacement for Roku possessing Aang on the winter solstice. Deadline of the comet coming by summers end has to be cut due to actors aging in live action. Agni Kai between Zuko and Zhao was literally ep 3 in the series.

Real answer to this is because it's live action and their child actors are going to grow up, particularly with Aang, and it's hard to sell an audience in S3 years down the line that an older teenager playing Aang is still canonically 12 or 13 as a character. The timeline of Sozin's comet can't work with live action unless you push it back much further.

No Roku, no Agni Kai either. Why was Zhao even pretending to play nice with Zuko? Roku could only possess Aang in the original at his temple during the Winter Solstice. What time or moral constraint prevents Kyoshi from just killing all the fire benders and their ships? I'm all for giving more time to Sokka and Suki, but man were they awkward in this. No fun allowed in this show either. Whole reason they went to Kyoshi Island was to ride the elephant koi, but nah can't do that. Unagi, nah, we don't need that. They briefly showed a girl fan girling over Aang, but Katara cheered it on and they never turned that into a plot point of Aang learning some humility about his celebrity status.

This show gets it dialed in by the finale - definitely worth sticking with it. The bending styles are all accurate and the visuals are phenomenal. Cast and crew are all major fans of the og and you can tell a lot of love went into it

Personally, I have many issues with Netflix ATLA, but I believe it was made with love & respect. It could’ve been much worse and it does not show an outright disdain for the original story - something I couldn’t say for many adaptations in the last several years.

i will just come to the defense of the show when i see people saying the whole thing is terrible. everyone can have their opinions but we need more positivity in order to make and possibly see the changes we want happen

lol I'll just say that even the creators left the project, and for good reason. Shitty CGI slop remakes suck and they only exist to give people more braindead content. I'm doing exactly what the creators of the original did and staying out of it.

people love to hate on things nowadays. i think people need to go in with a clear head and just remember there love for the show. take more time appreciating the nostalgia and live adaptation that is 10x better than the 2010 one

This is exactly how I felt about this show but I literally just tried to watch it as its own thing and not compared everything to the original and I actually enjoyed it a lot

Kyoshi possessing Aang is clearly a replacement for Roku possessing Aang on the winter solstice. Deadline of the comet coming by summers end has to be cut due to actors aging in live action. Agni Kai between Zuko and Zhao was literally ep 3 in the series.

Why the hell would Roku or the Agni Kai be in this episode?
