2024-09-02 16:41:27 +0000 UTCI genuinely think part of the reason that Gon's pact was so impactful was because he also gave up his innocence. He was always a character that we could rely on to be wholesome, but in this instance, he wished for nothing but Pitou's death. It may not be something he consciously sacrificed, but I think it may have come into play in the pact with the proportional power he received.

2024-03-06 16:52:15 +0000 UTCHonestly I think because it’s an anime only thing in the manga kite was the second person we met after Gon. So the connection should have been from the beginning and showed how gon learned from kite early on. Then they got reacquainted and kite start training him again only for that same person that not only saved your life as a kid but also felt like a father figure to him since we know he didn’t have a dad around to die because you became a bit arrogant of your new found power. So yh an innocent kid probably would snap.

2024-03-03 04:07:07 +0000 UTC@Shiro: Yeah, I totally agree with everything you said. Regarding "Gon effectively did what Netero did": exactly, they are drawn to each other, and meet and exceed each other’s standards :D. Gon finished the last round of the Hunter exam just exactly the way Netero expected it to be (the fight & surrender game, and Netero played it with Meruem too); Netero likes Gon and weighted him even higher than Killua at the beginning of the last round; Gon is obsessed with finding Ging, played GI the way Ging wants, and is the only person winning the game designed by Ging (& his friends), and Hisoka is so obsessed with fighting Gon (more than fighting Killua), and wants to fight Netero too haha (Hisoka only wants to fight certain types of strong people). Yes, Gon is very attached to people close to him, and while Togashi intentionally makes Gon like Ging, I think this characteristic makes him different from Ging (e.g. the scene when he uses the Accompany card instead of Magnetic Force as Ging wants lol). One more thing about the episode 131 that I like: through Togashi’s commentary on the *manga spoiler* “big fight” in the manga, it seems like he really enjoyed one-sided fights, or fights in which the readers are able to determine the winner from the beginning, or one character is so certain that they would win and win eventually. He said, however, it was difficult to make these fights interesting. We have already seen many one-sided fights in HxH so far: Hisoka vs. Gon, Gon vs. Pitou, King vs. Netero, Youpi vs. the hunter team, Kurapika-Uvogin, etc., and they are all great and interesting fights. I really love how Togashi enjoys doing the hard things and makes them work really well :)

2024-03-01 18:11:47 +0000 UTC@Gabriel I completely understand your point of view. I will better develop the perspective I had at that time. I classified Baro as a sort of humanoid creature because like you said he has the ability to speak, to reason, he has a very evil personality but still a personality,... So it was only for this reason that I humanized him (and paradoxically his evil personality dehumanized him). That's why I considered it as Gon's first "humanoid living being kill". What I noticed is that after brutally killing him by crushing his shell, he quickly moves on and doesn't even give a second thought to his first kill. It's still not nothing, a first murder even if you kill a horrible guy, especially for a child of around 13-14 years old. Afterwards I wasn't expecting a reaction where he was going to cry, to shake,... But it was just his total lack of reaction which could be surprising. Gon was completely unfazed, it's a fact, it's not a judgment and it's definitely what he should have done. In addition, before fighting the ant, he tried to establish a dialogue and asked him if he could stop eating humans, unfortunately it was a wasted effort. On the other hand, don't get me wrong, I am not at all implying that he is unhinged or a psychopath, and that would contradict my comments about Gon's analysis above. He's just a genuine kid and he acts as such, he sees things in black and white, so in this case he perceived this ant as completely evil and he was right. And as @Shiro said they were aiming to eliminate the ants so surely mentally prepared to kill. My overall comment seems really negative about Gon but I know that this is not his fault, he is a very pure kid thrown in a cruel world. Well sorry it's a long answer, I hope it makes sense what I wrote, it was to better explain the perspective I had at the beginning, but I completely agree @Gabriel with you and your perspective on Gon's point of view. I didn't put myself enough in Gon's perspective. I really like Gon and it's breaking me to see him as such a broken traumatized child (Killua as well). @Shiro thank you!! I really like your comments as well I always look forward to them, they are always interesting and very in-depht! Yes it's so nice to be able to share our thoughts with others who also love this show!! ;^) Maybe it may seem ridiculous but I normally never comment on other platforms because I'm always afraid of saying something wrong and having to get into debates or conflicts. But since there is this small private community aspect here and especially since it concerns hunter x hunter I said to myself let's go for it! Plus it’s ridiculous how many things there are to say each time!

2024-02-28 21:53:01 +0000 UTCNot to mention, the show has been heavily hinting that the only thing keeping Gon sane the past few days is that he had full conviction that Kite was alive. I imagine his rage and "explosion" wouldve been muuchhhh tamer if he had them as soon as Kite died. But he kept building it up and convincing himself that Kite is alive. Gon didnt care much for saving humanity or stopping the ants from invading, he mainly wanted his revenge. So I think all this build-up emotion crashing in one moment after he's been promised Kite can be fixed is what resulted in this. Thats on top of what ffltscat said, in the original version, you see Kite in the first episode/chapter and you as a viewer like him, so when you see him again in episode ~80, you feels as though hes been a character youre with for 80+ episodes and his death hits a lot harder as well as Gon's attachment to him makes a lot more sense (from a viewers POV, now it still makes sense but its more of "told not shown" bond)

2024-02-28 06:05:44 +0000 UTCYou have summed up Gon's character beautifully @Isaac, my thoughts resonate with what you have written. The thing about residual Nen is that it only comes into effect when the emotions driving it are very intense. Since Kurapika hates the Troupe enough to design powers specifically against them, he may have residual nen which may get activated after his death, especially if he is killed by the Troupe. The narrator explains that since Pitou is a royal guard, and royal guards are extremely loyal to their king, her nen activated because she was fighting Gon to protect the king (whereas Gon was not even thinking about the king!). I love that this fight not only showcases Gon's grief but also Pitou's and Killua's unwavering loyalty towards their respective people!

2024-02-28 05:44:52 +0000 UTC@hknguyen - Thank you! It is nice to know someone is reading the comments I write :) I think I have become familiar with some members through their names as they post frequently on the shows I watch here, so it is a nice little community we have going here! Your explanation above is very interesting and makes sense and I can see what you mean when you further elaborated your point. Since these characters you mentioned are very selfish when it comes to their personal goals, one can feel that they are being a bit cold-hearted! Though I would also say that Gon is also very attached to the people close to him, so much that he is ready to lose everything for Kite. Now that I am thinking about it, Gon effectively did what Netero did, though in the latter's case, he used his full power that he had already honed, and in the former's case, he gained power at the expense of his future potential. HxH has some very interesting characters in the mix, and Gon is definitely one of them. I think his breakdown is not just defined by his personal relation with Kite (yes, he looked up to him, etc.), but also how that experience made him feel as a person. To see someone amazing (Kite) die because of Gon's weakness (since both him and Killua had to be protected from Pitou), the feeling of guilt and regret, Gon is truly a layered character though he looks so simple. I think we have seen him cry thrice so far (if I remember correctly), once when Hisoka lets him keep his badge during the hunter exam, next when he loses to Knuckle and third time when he sees puppet Kite and of course in episode 131. His sense of pride is similar to Meruem's in that regard... Anyway, reading your comment inspired me to write some more (apologies for the long rant). It is really nice to read the thoughts of so many people, it makes me see things I hadn't noticed before! Will look forward to more interesting takes and comments from you and everyone :)

2024-02-28 00:02:39 +0000 UTC@Shiro Thank you for your response so that I could share more of my thoughts. I agree, I don’t consider Gon to be cold either, but perhaps the way I describe it wasn’t clear. He is a great friend, and both he and Killua tried to stop Kurapika from killing members of the Phantom troupe by acting as their hostages. I do find him cold when he is serious, but not in a very negative way. It’s not because he’s cold-hearted, but rather because he’s a professional hunter (at such a young age, much like Ging). Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but to me, Gon, Ging, and Netero exemplify perfect hunters (I wanted to include Hisoka in this too) - they epitomize what it means to be a hunter (while I also absolutely love the diversity of the Hunter community). Ging is cold too for abandoning his son, but is also a highly respectful individual who significantly impacts their world and the people around him. The way that Ging talked to Gon, and Gon's response to Ging's recorded message, doesn’t sound like that of a father and son, but rather two professional hunters talking to each other. Gon’s strategy for stealing Hisoka’s badge is also brilliant and in the most “hunter” way possible, and I don’t know if there could have been any other possible way to steal the badge from Hisoka. To me Gon isn’t a flawed character or a miserable broken kid. His personality, pride, rage, even selfishness, are what make him consistently a great hunter, aiding him in defeating one of the most powerful creatures in their world. People like Gon, Ging, and Netero (and Hisoka too :D) inspire others with their free spirit, strong will, and their journeys. They are also extremely unpredictable, because the bars they set (e.g. in term of effort, hard work, resolve, and recklessness) are always above and beyond what normal people could ever imagine. Not sure if these are hot takes, I'm happy to learn more from everyone here. Thank you, I’ve really been enjoying your posts too (ever since the beginning of the AOT reactions lol). I only started posting during the second half of the Chimera Arc, because it did feel itchy seeing HxH and my favorite character Gon being underrated in the earlier episodes haha.

2024-02-27 22:10:24 +0000 UTC@devakira Do you have a strong emotional reaction when killing a fly? I don't think so. Sure, the ants were more intelligent than other bugs, but in Gon's mind they were just that, ants, and up until that point his experience with them was nothing but negative, they hadn't show him any sign of humanity whatsoever beyond the abilities to speak and reason. Gon has hunted animals before, this was probably no different in his mind. It's not fair to imply he is some sort of unhinged kid just because he showed no remorse killing a beast that seemed to be nothing but evil.

2024-02-27 20:17:55 +0000 UTCI’m going to be totally honest, after going on this journey with you all I have to say, this show as been a 6/10 overall at best. This episode really didn’t do much for me like others seem to say. I don’t like the way they handled gon’s reaction visually and thematically. A large part of it for me is the lack of connection between Gon and Kite, this just doesn’t even feel like gons character is doing any of this, it’s more like he’s been possessed by something else entirely, and I don’t find that compelling. I wanted to see the young gon we’ve been following this whole time go into a killing rage, not this jojo character he turned into. Am I alone in this?

2024-02-27 17:55:12 +0000 UTCI am in love with the ongoing Succession arc in the manga, only Togashi could think up of such a complicated and twisted plot! I hope and pray that he manages to end it neatly like the Chimera arc, but it seems to be getting more convoluted each chapter. I think they can do a 12 or 10 episode series leading up to the Succession arc. But Studio Madhouse is no more, and they left it at such a great point at 148, that making a small series only to leave it open-ended may not be the best! But yes, the manga chapters after the anime ends are great!
Shiro
2024-02-27 15:24:41 +0000 UTCThe legendary episode 128, haha, watching your reaction was a treat!! 😂 I understand it is indeed peculiar and very anime-like, but upon rewatching, I think that though exaggerated, it is not without a purpose. It shows the physical, spiritual and emotional transformation of 3 very powerful characters. I guess that is how they decided to show 'unparalleled joy', by excessive moaning, which could have been toned down a bit! But I am so glad you guys loved this last batch of 8 episodes!! There is something about the visual presentation of this arc, with the symbology and metaphors that makes it very unique to me! And the animation and music is on point with the voice acting! The reason the fights in 126 and 131 are so impactful is because of all the buildup that went behind them, and also the deeper psychological struggle within the characters. Both the protagonists and antagonists battle with a sense of purpose and duty, and that is what makes the audience root for both!! Loved your reaction guys, I really look forward to your HxH reactions as they are the oasis in my desert of a difficult past few days! Thank you very much!! And also, I am happy you liked the last arc of HxH Brig, it is my personal favourite as well since I enjoy the political shenanigans that unfold!! Will eagerly look forward to when the team catches up to that part! Cheers!!
Shiro
2024-02-27 15:18:50 +0000 UTCI slightly disagree with you guys regarding Gon's personality. @hknguyen - I would not characterize Gon as cold, because remember, the Hunter exam is brutal and those who apply do so with the full realization that they can be fatally injured or worse killed. Each participant is barely able to make it (especially if they do not know Nen) so Gon is more engaged in surviving and if there is an opportunity in front of him, he will take it at the expense of others. He has been very helpful and sympathetic to those in need (case in point, the saved the sailor on the ship in episode 2 or 3 when he was thrown overboard in the storm). @devakira - True, that was Gon's kill, but once again, the trio (Gon, Kite, and Killua) had gone in with the full intention of taking out the Chimera ants. In fact, Gon is the one who struggles the most out of the three in this task. He does not finish his opponent fully in the underground drug cave when they are confronting Yunju and his crew, Kite has to step in to finish him. Also, when he kills the armadillo, he says that he has no sympathy for anyone who mistreats their own comrades, to which Kite thinks - that is a dangerous way of thinking, what will you (Gon) do if he sees the Chimera ants have caring emotions towards each other? This shows that Gon does have principles and is not cold hearted, he is a great friend and the worst enemy you could have, which is very typical of his simple nature. By the way, you guys are frequent commentators on HxH episodes and I read all of your posts with great interest, so nice to hear and discuss different viewpoints from others who also love this show!! :)

2024-02-27 12:06:16 +0000 UTCActually he has already killed someone, the armadillo was his first kill. He crushed it, but you're right about his unclear morality. Just there for example for a first murder his reaction or rather his lack of reaction was strange. Normally when you kill someone for the first time most often you are nervous, traumatized, stressed,... But here it's as if he had always done this, he is completely unfazed a bit like Killua who in his case was always exposed to murder.

2024-02-27 09:53:37 +0000 UTCWe needed to get through episode 128 to get to peak. That is the law of equivalent exchange. /s I said in the previous video that I never skip any parts of your videos, but I had to skip parts of that scene because that was painful. Madhouse went hard with this episode. The animation, the OST, the build-up, the attention to detail, was perfect. I can’t imagine how it feels as a creator to see your work be transformed into something so extraordinary. This episode had me shook, but the rest of the arc emotionally wrecked me. Good luck 🫡

2024-02-27 09:37:14 +0000 UTCIn response to your question about whether Gon had killed anyone before: he hadn’t, but he was...very cold when serious or having a strong goal in mind. Do you remember when he wanted to steal Hisoka’s badge? He used other people as bait, waiting until Hisoka attacked them to steal the badge. In both scenarios, two people died while he attempted to steal the badge, with the second person dying unaware. Additionally, he didn’t seem to care much about people dying left and right during the Hunter exam or Greed Island arc.

2024-02-27 01:22:35 +0000 UTCTrue, but it’s also established when nen is introduced that the specialist category sort of has an entanglement with manipulator and conjurer category, both being most likely to mature as specialists. A lot of Pitou skills seem to suggest the base is manipulation. Personally I could see most specialist abilities being categorized as manipulation or conjuration that is either so high level or so specific to the genetic makeup of the user that they are virtually impossible to learn in mass (Wish, Skill Hunter, Lovely Ghostwriter, Parallel Future).

2024-02-26 22:26:02 +0000 UTCI agree that in hindsight, it's kinda funny, but watching it for the first time I had a similar reaction to the boys (though I definitely understood why the guards would have those reaction and the symbolisms, but it was still weird).

2024-02-26 21:48:40 +0000 UTCI remember all the little moment where Gon's ideology is childlike but he's unwavering & the show slowly breaks him down to do completely opposite arcs between him with Killua, it's absolutely amazing & how you get so invested (while Gon let's his hands get blown off 🖐🏾 or Arm chopped off💪🏾)

2024-02-26 19:59:26 +0000 UTC135 is definitely given more meaning and impact due to the events of 131. I can’t say too much cause I don’t want to potentially spoil the guys, but they’re definitely in for a real treat. McKay needed a break after 131...can’t wait to see how he feels after 135 lol

2024-02-26 15:39:57 +0000 UTCsomeone said that gons attack is similar to netero beam or hand zero, but that is not true. the zero hand attack is netero aura that he acquired over years and decades, he didnt have to put condition on himself to use it. but gons attack is a result of a condition. its like he gave nen a blind check to nen saying here take everthing you want just give me the power to kill pitou

2024-02-26 05:00:09 +0000 UTCBruh didnt want the watch the show. He has tried to throw his life away along with body parts several times throughout the show. Legit every arc he almost sacrifices himself for either his friends or to prove himself right.
Jed
2024-02-26 04:40:52 +0000 UTCGon has had the potential to do this from the beginning. That’s what makes it so crazy. There’s been subtle hints of his dark side throughout the series that didn’t seem like much at the time, but when you get to 131 you finally realize what exactly it was leading to. I can’t wait for you guys to finish out this arc and see what becomes of him and of Meruem. Can’t wait for 135! It’s gonna be great haha
Christina Laegel
2024-02-26 04:37:02 +0000 UTCThe data book states otherwise. All of Meruems stats are S+ tier is his normal form and his post bomb form. Gon's stats are all ??? for his tier. Gon slams easily, the only one I can see an argument for is speed but even then I doubt it. He made Pitou look like she was standing still with that first kick.
Jed
2024-02-26 04:33:21 +0000 UTCThis is just wrong. In the data books we have info on every characters stats. Meruem and Post bomb Meruem are all S+ tier. Gons transformation stats are just ??? so we will never know what would have happened. In my opinion Gon would 100% destroy Meruem in normal state and post bomb state. Gon's transformation is the only character who's stats aren't told to us on purpose, its supposed to add the sense of dread and un-security.
Jed
2024-02-26 04:30:26 +0000 UTCWhat I think is great about them showing us what Gon could become, is that as an audience we probably will never see him get to that point. It's been years since this came out and we've only gotten a few chapters released since then. Hopefully the Author's health gets better for his sake and then ours if he ever gets the chance to continue. There are lot of manga after the anime. IDK why they don't just animate that in the meantime.

2024-02-26 04:04:58 +0000 UTCOn another note, remember that once Meruem actually struck Pitou with the intention of killing her, and it only scratched her. It makes sense that Gon needed many punches to finally kill her.

Josh
2024-02-26 03:48:11 +0000 UTCGon basically sacrificed all of his potential in order to gain all the power he could ever have. I read once a comment in another reaction video (I think) that sums it up pretty well: imagine the whole vow and covenant thing as a nen shop, in order to abtain the ability and power you want you have to pay X price; what Gon did was basically to pay with a blank check at the counter and say: "take anything you want, I don't even care anymore, just give me everything you have", so you can only imagine the consequences this will have for him, especially considering just how much natural talent Gon has to begin with.

2024-02-25 23:16:21 +0000 UTCim so confused why Cannon genuinely is annoyed at that 128 pouf youpi scene, man just look back and laugh at how dumb and ridiculous it was?? its so over the top its just funny, its insanely awakward to watch but i cant understand getting mad about it, it makes sense even with how overly weird it is its just hilarious looking back at it in hindsight
James Perrott
2024-02-25 23:16:08 +0000 UTCIts not fair cause pitou gets infinite bonus points for being cute and hot and lewdab- i mean shes just peak design i cant help it but genuinely the most interesting one of the three and has the most depth to her personality. Youpi is a close second and his development from strong airhead to a noble fighter who respects his enemies and then his devotion to the king, and his design changes being unique too. pouf is a great villian but isnt exactly likable, i dont think hes supposed to be. he tries to kill komugi so many times and thats unforgivable komugi is too cute and innocent and has the same pitou bonus points.... pouf is the cause of so many problems lol he gotta go

2024-02-25 22:55:25 +0000 UTCIt is in my belief that with every punch Gon is sacrificing a part of himself. Remember both Pitou and Killua are unreliable narrators. Pitou believed he is sacrificing his ability to use nen and his potential, Killua believes he is sacrificed a great deal of his future. It’s is probably a mixture of both and more… at that time it is more accurate to compare Gon to a burning candle (like his candle from the test in Hunter exam). It grows and leaks, as time passes it expands. His soul, his spirit, nen, his physical being… it’s probably all parts that allowed him to make this pact and allowed him to keep going. His initial transformation was probably close to what Pitou assumed but Gon kept using it, kept doing more, kept punching.

2024-02-25 22:35:41 +0000 UTCFavourite is Youpi then Pitou and Pouf last but Pouf is by far the best villain Togashi has written if we don’t count Meruem. 2024-02-25 20:15:33 +0000 UTCMy favorite villains in all of anime are villains that people sincerely HATE. A lot of villains a written to be admired or revered in some way... But villains who are so good at being villains that you actually hate them are imo the best villains. It's also why I consider Danzo to be one of the top 3 villains in all of Naruto.

2024-02-25 20:13:02 +0000 UTCFun detail in this episode, it's the first time in the whole series that we hear one of Killua's footsteps Also, it's wild that Carter literally predicted a situation like this back in the Greed Island arc. I think he said something like one day Gon is going to go too far and Killua won't be able to stop him.
Teaq
2024-02-25 19:34:25 +0000 UTCIt's funny, I remembered what Carter said once - that Kite's death hit him harder than Gon's would. But seeing his reaction today, I think he really got into it. I also remember Cannon saying he only cries for happy stuff, but today, tears were in his eyes. McKay and Brig, seeing those scenes again, were full of emotions. McKay even had to keep himself from freaking out. Jack was muttering to himself with all sorts of twisted expressions. It's great that we all get lost in this anime I love. Feels like we're sharing the same world.
Isaac L
2024-02-25 18:48:40 +0000 UTCGon's not the type to scheme against others. That's what makes him so likable - he's genuine, emotionally deep, just a kid living a simple life in the countryside. Some might call him naive. But looking back, it's clear people are drawn to him because of his simplicity and purity. Even when facing tough enemies like Razor, he gets pumped about their powers. The author's been crafting Gon's character for a long time, so his actions make sense to me. When he lost it and went after Pitou, he wasn't think about whether he should keep his arm to fight the Ant King or use his power to strengthen himself against the remaining enemies - just raw emotion. He's a kid who hasn't had to deal with losing friends because of his choices. He couldn't handle the news about Kite's death; he just felt like nothing mattered anymore. All he wanted was an outlet for his emotions, and killing Pitou was the only thing that made sense in that moment. He didn't care about the consequences. As for Pitou's Nen getting stronger after death, that concept was introduced early on during the Yorknew arc. Feitan encountered Gon and Killua at the auction and mentioned they couldn't kill Kurapika now. Kurapika's Nen would persist even after death, showing us that post-mortem Nen is a thing. This concept comes back into play later in the story. Pitou should've been dead after Gon's initial attacks, but Gon was just heartbroken, continuously punching at Pitou's body, which was only swaying from the force of his punches. And sure, Hunter might not have the flashy animation of newer anime, but the reputation in the manga world is so good.
Isaac L
2024-02-25 18:39:02 +0000 UTCIn a non-spoiler explanation for Gon's power up, the key lines of his to look out for during it are when he says "I don't care if this is the end, I will use everything" And how we have the concept of nen contracts introduced and slightly touched on earlier in the series with Kurapika and both his Emperor time and his restriction not to use his powers against non-spiders. Nen contracts are almost limitless with how much power they can provide but the power given is proportional to the restriction (targets, time available etc.) and the consequences/fallout afterwards. Gon has been mentioned to be unparalleled in the amount of power and potential he has. Even more so than someone like Killua who is being prepped to become the strongest Zoldyck. So you just know that this particular power up is insane in terms of scale when Pitou and Killua mention that Gon has used a contract to instantly reach his full potential which he would only normally achieve through training endlessly for decades, similar to what Netero did in his prayer/punching flashback.
Delane Gill
2024-02-25 18:24:40 +0000 UTCYeah Pouf does exactly what a villain needs to, he makes you hate him but you also understand why he acts in the way he does. He sticks to his convictions and doesn't compromise on them which pairs really well with the rest of the chimera ants who do change in their own ways. That all said, I still feel like Meruem tops it as my favourite written villain in anime

2024-02-25 16:44:09 +0000 UTCBeen waiting for these episodes. One of the best episodes in the entire anime. I'm sad how Gon transformed from human to monster because of circumstances. He blames himself for Kite's death. He loses himself. Still, worth the wait. Anyway, everything is perfect. From script, animation, voice acting, EVERYTHING. I wish I can watch it again without knowing the plot. Thank you for watching it. T__T
Ramennn
2024-02-25 16:41:14 +0000 UTCIt was actually a mistranslation. In the manga, it comes off more as Gon can challenge the King, not necessarily that his power is equal

2024-02-25 16:37:08 +0000 UTCCannon I teared up too, this episode never fail to bring tears to my eyes... 😿 The end of this episode with killua screaming "gon", gon looking back at killua, the explosion and the music of the ending this is too much to handle. This episode is perfect in all way (the soundtrack, the emotional impact, the voice acting, the animation,...) This is probably one of my favorite episode (maybe plus the 116 and the 135) among all the animes/series (at the same time hxh is my number 1 favorite anime/serie so it's not too difficult to make it my favorites episodes).

2024-02-25 16:23:03 +0000 UTCOne aspect I thought was written absolutely beautifully is that The King and Gon are Parallels of Each other so as the King is turning more human, Gon is turning more into an animal and like Parallel lines, their paths never crossed

2024-02-25 15:26:33 +0000 UTCGon's pact was to forfeit his life so that is as far you could go. But that could only be achieved because of the way he felt towards Kite and Pitou. Its not something someone could just casually do if they don get the resolve. Remember the beginning of Nen explanation: If your resolve is weaker then what your pact demands your body will break and you will die by your own Nen. The pact needs to be fed with an accordingly powerful feeling, which is not something easyt to obtain. What Gon did could only be done with the same expectations and experiences he been through. Thats why Nen is so personal and powerful.
Izaya
2024-02-25 15:17:45 +0000 UTCJust clarifying, Gon can NOT defeat the king. Jackson is right. Last time Pitou saw the King he was not as strong as he is now so her last reference was pre-rose Meruem, meaning before he absorbed Pouf and Youpi. So even if Gon survives he still stands no change against current King. Just clarifying in case there was any doubt

2024-02-25 15:06:52 +0000 UTCPitou is an unreliable narrator when she says that Gon is as strong as Meruem. You shouldn't take that statement as a fact. She never saw the full extent of Meruem's power even pre-rose. At the same time im not saying that its 100% false either, just that you need to take that statement with a grain of salt since its said by a character not the actual narrator and she can be wrong. My personal feelings is that Gon wasnt as strong as Meruem but might have been close. Anyway no opinion on this is wrong just wanted to mention that.

2024-02-25 13:07:46 +0000 UTCGon's charged Jajanken in his transformed state seemed much more destructive, though. Didn't you see the size of the blast of that thing?
Gabriel Machuca Wegermann
2024-02-25 13:06:53 +0000 UTCUntil she is given a reason to. Human beings, a species that Pitou is undeniably a part of, are very often incapable of understanding things until they themselves experience them. From the minute her king is born, something begins blossoming inside pitou. The beginnings of what I view as a platonic love. A seed of care and compassion sprouts when she first meets the one she is to serve. Pitou is the only Royal guard to really see Meruem as a person. She care for him as an individual, she has a desire for him to be happy even if that happiness usurps his original purpose. She's the only one to not care about him fulfilling his cold destiny as long as he himself is happy. A great exemple is when the king asks for his name, she answers that he can choose whatever pleases him. Showing empathy towards him. So now that she knows the feeling to care deeply about someone she understands Gon's feelings and behavior. She's truly and sincerely sorry for him but it's already to late.
devakira
2024-02-25 13:02:11 +0000 UTCSo of course she doesn't stop to think about ethics, nor does she really have intent of evil. In her early life, pitou simply isn't capable of understanding the weight of her actions because she has no experience, knowledge or context to draw from when it comes to what death even means. To pitou, killing and using others for her purposes and playing with her prey is as natural as a feline killing a mouse, and she never thinks about the moral ramifications of anything she does.
devakira
2024-02-25 13:01:16 +0000 UTCOne more time sorry for this very long comment, here an analysis from Aleczandxr's videos the goat about pitou : pitou enters the story very much like a kitten she acts instictually following her impulses and the purposes and motives that seem to be built into her psyche. She is cruel, but it seems very much to me that she does all of the things she does not out of any true ill will or malice towards others, but as a result of a mixture of it being her duty and it being something she views as beneath her, as a fun game. Upon birth, it's just the way she was made to think that killing and serving the king that comprises her life, approached with a cat's nature.

Michaela Igl
2024-02-25 11:06:36 +0000 UTC^ That's a misinterpretation controversy. SPOILER : ............................ It was never actually implied that Maha was stronger than Netero. In the manga, it said he's the only one who fought Maha Zoldyck and lived. That implies many things but not necessarily Maha being stronger. Did they fight like he fought Meruem? All out with Zero Hand? Clearly not. More like a hard spar if anything. Let's just say we've more canon data to prove Netero was stronger. So I'm going with that. And I'm not forgetting that continent's characters. The Big Don is clearly the big boss. Given the fact that he's Ging's goal. Strong indication.
SoClose
2024-02-25 11:05:25 +0000 UTCGon's powerup was incredibly strengthened by a few important conditions: 1) He has sacrificed decades of potential and the ability to ever use nen again like they mentioned 2) But also it required unbelievable resolve; something that could only be obtained through his broken and fractured mental state 3) Kurapika's chains were strengthened by only being intended for use on 13 people in the entire world. Gon had exactly ONE target in mind for this power. 4) The final and worst thing is that there was no real condition or limitation that he set. It was just a simple trade. He didn't care what the cost was. He basically gave Nen itself a blank check and said exact whatever cost you want I need this power. Thus the consequences can only be devastating for him

Yuion
2024-02-25 09:31:03 +0000 UTCThis is not an epic fight, a heroic act, neither the geat hero defeating the grand evil villain. This is just a tragic scene of a traumatized child of just 13-14 years old committing a suicide, throwing off his life "I don't care anymore if this is the end" "I will use everything." This is just sad.
devakira
2024-02-25 09:20:53 +0000 UTCSo he decided to kill himself to take down Pitou. Because he didn’t deserve to live. And this “fight” with Pitou wasn’t even to avenge Kite’s death. It was an attempt to ease his guilt. To feel a little better, because he might’ve lost everything, but at least he took down Pitou with him. Gon didn’t “snap” out of nowhere. He always felt weak and insecure, he always had a broken sense of self-worth that led him to be self-destructive and overcompensate by taking everything onto his shoulders. Chimera Ant Arc just pushed him past his limit. But this darkness, this plea for help, this trauma was always there in Gon’s heart. But it doesn’t mean he’s crazy. He’s just a child with abandonment issues and deep trauma And this deep, suffocating agony is what led Gon to act the way he did during Chimera Ant Arc. It wasn’t the acts of a crazy, psychopathic monster. It was the act of a kid, desperately pleading for help.
devakira
2024-02-25 09:18:57 +0000 UTCGon feels the need to prove his worth and handle everything alone in an attempt to appear strong, and this unhealthy standards he puts onto himself and that Ging’s behavior enables are what ultimately led to his breakdown. Because when Kite’s arm flew off, so did Gon’s entire reason to exist. He blamed himself for it, cursed his weakness and desperately attempted to make things right no matter the cost. Even if it meant death. Because death is better than being weak. Death is better than the guilt of having let his mentor down. Death is better than being rejected by his dad for his mistake. Death is better than being abandoned by his best friend. Gon is not a monster because he sacrificed his life. He’s not a monster because he turned into an adult version of himself. He’s not a monster because he bashed Pitou’s skull in until it was mush. It was the actions of a broken boy who had nothing left. Who had just lost everything. Because Kite wasn’t hurt, he was DEAD. He was dead by his fault, it was his fault. He had nothing else to live for, because he was weak and lost everything.
devakira
2024-02-25 09:18:03 +0000 UTCSo here for example : because Gon’s morality has always been weird, it broke him to see Pitou heal Komugi. He couldn’t comprehend why something he categorized as evil was doing something as pure as healing. Just like that time during York New Arc ! Gon couldn't understand why Chrollo was mourning the death of one of his members when he showed no remorse relentlessly killing innocent people. This inability to understand that bad people can do good things already broke Gon during YN arc, and it happened again during Chimera Ant Arc. He had nowhere to put his anger. All this time, he created this mental picture of Pitou in his head, this one where they’re an evil, evil villain who could never do anything good, he classified them as bad and that was that. But faced with them performing a pure act of healing, it broke Gon. He had no outlet for his anger. So he did what a 12 year old with a broken sense of worth and a need for validation would do : he overcompensated with even more anger.
devakira
2024-02-25 09:17:48 +0000 UTCGon feels weak and insecure, he has no self-worth and a deep need to prove his value which leads him to constantly exhibit self-destructive behavior for the sole purpose of living up to his dad’s expectations and proving his worth. Unlike other anime protagonists his age, Gon actually sees the world the way a child does. The idea of moral ambiguity flies straight over his head. His morality is in black and white he doesn't perceive gray shade. He views good as good and bad as bad. Problem is, his idea of ‘good’ boils down to what he likes and ‘bad’ is what he disagrees with.
devakira
2024-02-25 09:16:35 +0000 UTCGon vs Pitou is better in terms of shock while Netero vs. Meruem is a better story overall. Gon's sacrifice is something unexpected but logically makes sense when examined further into the Nen/Pact system. On the other hand we knew Netero had all he needed to at least injure/pressure the king due to his ranking and backstory/true nature at points.
Garret G
2024-02-25 09:16:09 +0000 UTCSo sorry this is a really long comment I found this analysis on the internet ! His character is much more darker and deep than what meets the eye compared to most protagonists in the same genre. Nobody fully understands him. A lot of people keep saying that Gon is crazy, unhinged, a psychopathic monster who only plays a role of the innocent kid. He’s not. Gon is a 12 year old with severe trauma due to his dad’s abandonment and unhealthy standards and with a chaotic moral compass forged by his childhood spent on an isolated island. He’s not a sociopath, not a psychopath, not a monster, not unhinged. Gon is a realistic portrayal of what happens to an abandoned child of 12yo tossed in a merciless world where he constantly has to prove his worth to feel like he can live up to his dad’s expectations. And of course, it’s not pretty. It’s terrifying to see Gon’s evolution, and it’s scary to see him slowly lose it. But it doesn’t make him a monster. It makes him feel human. Ging’s physical and emotional abandonment left Gon with deep wounds that reflected in his behavior.

2024-02-25 08:54:55 +0000 UTCAn absolute masterpiece of an episode with the music, the black and white scene with the splashes of red blood, the piercing sound of the attacks, and the dialogue. Just so incredibly sad and terrifying. In order to gain the strength necessary to confront Neferpitou, Gon makes a profound sacrifice. This sacrifice is not merely just physical, but also symbolic of the toll that vengeance and grief have taken on Gon's character. His overwhelming emotions, coupled with the intensity of his desire for revenge, drove him to a point where he is willing to risk everything, even his own existence, to achieve his goal. This is the destructive nature of unrestrained emotions and the cost of pursuing revenge at any cost.

2024-02-25 08:24:43 +0000 UTCThe thing about Gon, is he is consistently called a simple character, when he is in my opinion the most complex character in the show. From episode 1 jumping off the boat to rescue the sailor kid, to the duel with hanzo, to the fight with the bomber. A happy go lucky simple kid isn't consistently as suicidal as Gon is. That last look at killua is chilling to me. madhouse nailed the look. It says "I'm sorry you had to be here for this. I'm sorry about everything. But, I'm not sorry for you. Goodbye." Gon's character reminds me of a lot of those memes of famous people like mac miller and others smiling and happy and then it says suicide and depression doesn't always look the way you think it does. Gon is a pure character in an impure world. And so he suffers greatly. edit: madhouse not mappa

2024-02-25 08:14:07 +0000 UTCin the entire anime, the scene where killua rushes to push gon out of the way is the only time it’s emphasized that we can hear his footsteps. he’s so focused on getting to gon in time he didn’t bother to silence himself :(
nans
2024-02-25 08:08:34 +0000 UTCYeah. There are a many of these desperate moments that happens in One Piece. The “I want to live” episode gave me chills. However, I think HxH 131 is on top.

2024-02-25 07:41:07 +0000 UTCTruly a classic ep. Stands alone in its own category, not even from a just rage moment standpoint even tho its goated from that standpoint, but also just off the pure emotional weight of the moment. The culmination of gons character arc as he falls deeper into his despair. Him turning to killua crying knowing not only whats hes sacrificed but also that he couldnt save kite. Just *chefs kiss. Glad to see it getting the credit it deserves. Thanks for ep drops gents.

2024-02-25 07:34:39 +0000 UTCI remember rewatching HxH in college with a group of friends and when 131 ended one dude had to leave the room, he didn't come back for an hour lol

2024-02-25 07:31:32 +0000 UTCI'm in a quite place now..
Pitou
2024-02-25 07:30:05 +0000 UTCAlso Cannon, you're valid in crying one of the saddest episodes oat but still not the saddest of this arc.
Jack McKee
2024-02-25 07:29:32 +0000 UTCWhen Gon told me "It's time for you to sleep, too" he was actually talking to himself and pitou..
Pitou
2024-02-25 07:27:47 +0000 UTCHunter x Hunter ep 131 is the greatest television episode ever created. It will never be topped. What Togashi does with Gon's character is extraordinary. Still not over though, the end of this arc is equally fantastic. Also Killua godspeed is fast enough to dodge the explosion, even being that close.
Jack McKee
2024-02-25 07:27:20 +0000 UTCAlso just checked "mid" piece highest IMDB episode rating and OP got so many 9.7 episodes lmao
ABC
2024-02-25 07:26:21 +0000 UTC128 is fine... it's the end point to the development of the royal guard's purpose. It shows their total devotion and affirms their relationship with the king as well as showing how their devotion has brought him back to life... full of good character moments for Pouf and Youpi despite the very meme-able moaning and shit lol

2024-02-25 07:26:10 +0000 UTCJust watched this with you all for the first time and damn, that episode was sick! The music and the animation was epic.

2024-02-25 07:01:13 +0000 UTCyour guys reaction to 131 was everything i ever wanted. just absolutely LOCKED IN. gon’s power-up/rage is one of my personal favorite scenes in all of anime and what i think to be one of the greatest overall too. i can’t believe how close you guys are to the end at this point. next four episodes are cooking too (especially the chimera ant arc finale) so im stoked for those as well. thank yall for the dedication of watching and posting all 8 today too.
