The intro in HOTD isn't that informative (or that cool, really), but every GoT intro shows the map of the world and where events will be taking place (and the intro changes a lot). I respect your opinion. And that’s the thing about art and creativity is everybody gets a feeling of response. I just finished a book and the ending was abrupt and wasn’t organic to the story, so unfortunately the book was not a five star rating. That is not any different than a television show. The way something is executed determines whether or not a viewer rates it certain way. And knowing that a lot of the plots don’t end up paying off, among other things, that’s not a spoiler it’s just what millions of people struggled with. A d for me rewatching the show, is tough bc I know what I know. Everybody can have their own thoughts and feelings. But if I have to cancel my subscription it’s not because of them, they’re cool…it’s just I can’t really rewatch the show. That was the message.

Vaghar not only has battle experience, but was in the original conquest. When Aegon conquered Westeros, he did so with his dragon Balerion the Black Dread and his sister-wives Rhaenys and Visenya. Balerion was later ridden by Viserys. Visenya rode Vaghar and Rhaenys rode a dragon called Meraxes. Vermithor was ridden by King Jahaerys, the king before Viserys but hasn't had a rider since his death. Vermithor is the second biggest dragon after Vaghar.

Vaghar isn't just huge and old but it was also Visenya Targaryen's dragon. Visenya was Aegon the conqueror's sister (and wife). Aegon conquered Westeros with the help of his two sisters/wives and Visenya was basically the badass (and the crazy one) among the siblings. So out of all the dragons on the show, Vaghar is probably the one with the most battle experience.

In the very first episode you had Queen Aemma tell Rhaenyra that the birthing bed is the woman’s battlefield. And if you read the Game of Thrones book series you will see this same sentiment mentioned throughout the series. I say this because it felt like it was an important point to get across when you had a season filled with so many birthing scenes, some of them quite difficult. I think it was also the purpose of going back and forth between the bloody tournament and the bloody birth of the first episode. While the birth in this episode was anything but normal, I just wanted to share with you guys that walking around during labor is generally a really good thing, that can help the labor along. One aspect of this birth that they did not bring over from the book is that this was the only daughter ever born to Rhaenyra. I wish they would have added that detail, which makes it even more tragic. While making no excuses for Daemon choking Rhaenyra, it felt like his anger was probably because by learning that Viserys never told him Aegon’s prophecy, it was a sign that Viserys never seriously thought of Daemon as his heir. And no matter what you think of him, it seemed that the most important thing to Daemon was that his brother took him seriously. Keeping a divide between Daemon and Viserys appeared to be a major priority for Otto. If you rewatch the series pay attention to how hard Otto worked to sow division between them at every opportunity. After the episode, you guys were discussing how just little changes in events caused major consequences in the story. One thing that stood out to me was how Otto was the one to push Viserys to name Rhaenyra as his heir in the first place. And this was done to keep Daemon from being the heir. But if Otto had just waited to see if his plan to make Alicent the next queen worked, he could have avoided this whole situation. If Daemon had still been the official heir when Viserys married Alicent, then it would have been easy to get the king to declare their first born son the official heir. Otto caused a lot of this mess for himself because of his hatred of Daemon. The huge dragon that Daemon was singing to was his grandfather, King Jaehaerys’ dragon Vermithor. This dragon has had lots of battle experience. And Daemon was preparing him for a new rider, not trying to claim him for himself. You guys should watch the trailer for Season Two. I recently heard someone report that Season Two would be out by the end of June, instead of August. I can’t completely verify that. But let’s hope they were right. If so, I would expect some additional trailers very soon.

After reading Fire and Blood, it is so fcking cool to see Vermithor, the dragon Daemon encountered this episode, in live action. Vermithor belonged to King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, the king before Viserys. The crown given to Rhaenyra was also worn by King Jaehaerys I, (can be seen in first episode) which was handed down to Viserys, and now is in Rhaenyra's possession. I like to believe that that specific crown symbolizes the true, willing, line of succession from King to King/Queen, whereas Aegon II basically just uses the ethos of Aegon the Conqueror (uses his crown, his sword Blackfyre, and his name) to usurp the throne over the true desires of the previous king. The Greens are clever for sure. Excited for summer.

HOTD's biggest flaw is that it doesn't get the time to thoroughly develop its characters and relationships, especially with all the time jumping. Luke's death should have hit so hard, we should all have been an emotional mess from it, but outside of the shock factor most people had little to no emotive feelings about it. Because we barely even knew the kid. Now compare that to another GOT s1 death and how emotional the response to that was. And they got that attachment from its audience in only 10 episodes too.

They were introduced in ep 8: Aegon (known as Aegon the Younger to differentiate between him and Alicent's son - now King Aegon II) and Viserys (named after ou beloved king). I can get why Jack said that in the end about hotd being another level compared to Got. Both Got and Hotd are very different in terms of story so I can get why some prefer one over the other. What remains the same for both of these series are that they do politics so well and have very great written characters. I don't think it matters whether or Rhaenys had decided she was on Rheaneyras side or not, she had already picked the side that is against the hightowers and their false claim to the throne. The reason she didn't burn them then and there isn't because she thought she could stay out of the war, it is because it is not her war to start. That's what she said. When you guys react to GoT there is a history and lore video after each season that is narrated by the actors of the show as their characters. And they are told in bias ways you'll hear how each side feels about what happened. It's sooooo good. You will learn so much that is left out the show. It's tells you why certain families instantly have beef with each other as soon as you see them on screen. That is my only gripe with the show it left out of stuff.

Pointing this out cuz you were surprised by the fact that Daemon and Rhaenyra had kids already. You've seen the kids haha. I believe two episodes ago when Rhanenyra brought them to Viserys, he was so happy that one of them was named after him "now that is a name fit for a king" or something along those line. They are just babies so they are not shown much.. or in any other scene.

Also, I wouldn't put too much stock in what Viserys says about them not really being in control of the dragons. Viserys's opinion is biased because he was not fond of being a dragon rider, and he was a pacifist who rejected the Targaryen in him (an argument can be made that this is why the Throne rejected him and he was always cutting himself). Like it or hate it, Daemon is right. Dragons made the Targaryens who they were. And dragons made Valyria the greatest empire ever. The Valyrians have had control over dragons for centuries. What we see with Lucerys and Aemond are just two young boys who dont really know what they're doing and their emotions overwhelm them and their dragons.

Look at the contrast between Daemon and Aemond, Aemond can barely control Vhagar while Daemon has perfect control over Caraxes. Daemon almost never even has to give a verbal command, Caraxes perfectly understands and obeys. The book highlights it much more, but Aemond really is a wannabe Daemon but without the substance.

In my opinion it’s like recency bias but the opposite, whatever that’s called. People like to pretend season 6 was as bad as season 8 and just downright terrible as if when season 6 was airing GOT wasn’t still considered the greatest show on tv. Yeah there were small cracks in the writing but it was still absolutely amazing week by week. Never heard as much complaining about 6 as I did after 8 aired.

The way I saw the scene where Daemon grabbed Rhaenyra's neck, despite hating to witness that side of Daemon, was that the moment she spoke of the prophecy, he realized that Viserys never truly regarded him as the heir. Once again, he felt like a 'card out of the deck' to his own brother and ended up unleashing that anger on Rhaenyra.

i really love this episode because it makes me so emotional. from when rhaenyra gets the bad news, to her coronation ceremony was just so heart breaking and well done to me. she first learns that not only is her father dead, but that her childhood best friend who called her queen YESTERDAY usurped her throne and crowned aegon king in front of the masses. she then proceeds to miscarry her first daughter and is forcibly taken away from acting upon her promotion to queen, which is rhaenyra’s worst nightmare. in the first episode, her mom tells her that childbirth is the woman’s battlefield (or something like that) and rhaenyra alwaysss loathed that idea. and here we see that ideal become a reality for her at a crucial moment. then, rhaenyra suffers a gut wrenching birth, which is arguably the WORST birth scene this season, not in terms of quality but the hardest to watch for me at least jeezus 🫣. so in however many hours, rhaenyra has lost her father, her crown, and a child. IM DONE!! then just as she hits rock bottom, ser erryck brings rhae her father’s crown, bends the knee, and calls her queen, along with basically everyone else in attendance 🥹 talk about highs and lows though wtf 😟

honestly i don’t think you can compare HOTD 1 season to GOT 8 seasons and say it’s better. i do think that HOTD season 1 is better than GOT season 1 but for me as someone who has read both books and watched both shows, i do think GOT is better . the characters are better , the story telling is better and it goes in detail of how the world works and shows you the different houses. HOTD mainly focuses on the targaryens in their prime. so it doesn’t really show you the rest of the GOT world which is fine and HOTD Is an amazing show but the only reason it’s popular now is because GOT.

Ya in my opinion Lucerys death is Aemond's fault. Aemond tried to use dragons as a form of teasing. In turn he spooked Arrax which caused him to retaliate. Viserys said it himself, we don't truly control the dragons. They aren't toys nor objects they can 100% control at bid. Aemond messed up bad and you can tell it in his face at the end.

So excited you guys are starting GOT. It is a much more graphic/violent show which makes it more intense and more of a thriller. So you do have to prepare yourselves for season 1 ahead of time knowing that is coming. There are a lot more characters. Which makes remembering names more difficult the first few episodes because of that. It takes everyone who watches it a few episodes to remember who is who.

The thing with GOT is that the story isn't even finished yet so after a certain season the show creators just made up whatever because they had gotten a Star Wars deal and then they didn't even end up doing the project so they left a lot of things unanswered and woth HOTD it's a completed book so they have source material to pull from even if they changed some things

To answer a couple of the questions y’all had at the beginning: HOTD has different TV writers/show runners than the ones who wrote Game of Thrones. George RR Martin wrote the books that both are based on. Yes, HOTD is a completed story in the books. We know the ending. Game of Thrones is still not finished (a new book hasn’t come out in over 10 years and there are supposed to be 2 more)
