2024-03-11 05:33:16 +0000 UTCI would say that the "humanity" aspect has been pretty well developed. The concept was introduced pretty early on in the arc with Colt. I think it's easier to spot if you are looking at it through that lens after we see it initially - like Brig said, it's not something that you might catch on the first watch-through. I also think it does a good job showing the good side of humanity forming in the ant as well as the bad side. The ants are on the top of the food chain, so their desire to cage and treat those lower on the food chain as livestock is very "human" of them. While on the other side, empathizing with others and seeing their value beyond physical strength is also a "human" trait.

He was the leader on the NGL and had such a strong will that he wasn't taken over by the instincts of the ants. He left for Meteor to regroup and re-build his army. The biggest part is that while leaving NGL, he was in the same area but did not cross paths with Gon. The narrator stated that they were fated to meet one day.

A "magical beast" isn't really anything that special, and definitely not something they just randomly added to make youpi strong. It's not reaching or an excuse that we don't specifically know what creature was eaten to make youpi (he was most likely made of multiple magical beasts anyway)

He aims to employ subtlety, nuance, and thematic complexity while expanding on the characters and themes. Instead of overtly depicting the internal struggles of the Chimera Ants, he opts for a more nuanced exploration of their identities and transformations. This encourages viewers to engage with the characters on a deeper level, interpreting their actions and motivations within the context of their complex backgrounds and evolving personalities. Additionally, Togashi may have wanted to focus more on characters like Gon, Killua, Meurem, and the Royal Guards, whose internal struggles—such as morality, identity, humanity, purpose, and grief—are perceived as more "real." However, we do see glimpses of this internal conflict in characters like Colt, Ikalgo, Welfin, and Meloreon. I also believe that Palm, who was recently turned into an ant, is now discovering this internal struggle herself, as evidenced by her discussions with Ikalgo. He cares about elevating the King to being the pinnacle lifeform on earth, and he knows that his relationship with Komugi has the potential to completely derail the King's desire to take that path, Youpi agrees with him on this which is why he was also in on the plot (remember the whole 'we kill them all, with the king at our side' thing). So this is far more than even a matter of life or death for Pouf, its about the fulfilment of his animal instincts and the success of his species.
