Gotta remember that while Sansa’s attitude is insufferable, she is also a child, and rather sheltered for the world she lives in. She’s being manipulated by Cersei with the promise of luxury and prestige as queen, and Joffrey is laying on the charm promising a romantic marital ideal. She also has been groomed to be a perfect wife for a rich man, probably spoiled and told how pretty she is her entire life, and therefore deserving of this new fabulous lifestyle. So there is an element of childish hubris there as well.

The issue is HOTD poisons the well by making it seem like the Targaryen’s are the only people worth a damn in the whole realm. It narrows the perspective a viewer might have had would they have watched GOT first. GOT was so successful since it got people to buy into the universe and all its intricacies. HOTD was moderately successful by getting people to buy into pretty dragon lady and God-like (see episode 3) Daemon. HOTD sort of sets the whole world up as solely revolving around the Targaryen’s, and all other houses are presented as either lame (Hightower’s), overproud (Lannisters), back-stabbing and braindead (the Strong’s) or just dumb (Baratheon’s). There isn’t one redeemable character in the show that doesn’t have white hair and rides a dragon.

One thing I'll say about GoT is that compared to many other films and series, the characters and world is very grey. It's not really divided into good and bad, right and wrong, it's just people making their own decisions in that world. I think this is why perhaps it is challenging your expectations about it, but I think that's a good thing. Although I love HotD, I don't think it is delivering on that very important aspect. So it is a different experience when watching them.

And uniting the seven kingdoms brought more peace and prosperity than what they previously had when the independent kingdoms were constantly at war with each other.

I disagree, I really like this because this sets this reaction apart from the hundreds out there on YouTube. They are getting the in-universe experience to these events. HotD has set their expectations of what this universe is normally like and now they get to see how the events of GoT is upending the normal happenings in Westeros. The Targaryens mightve been unknown to those of us who watched GoT first. But in the universe their family is a huge deal and them not being on the throne is weird. And we now get a reaction from that perspective. As for their expectations, they'll learn. The board is still being set.

Hearing you guys talking about time skips and your expectations of the Targayrens as if they're the main characters in this world and etc is disappointing. Game of Thrones was partially so fascinating because no one knew anything about this world and everyone learned about all of the houses and the history of the world as the series progressed. He is the last Targaryen male heir left in this world and through a set of circumstances he is left with almost no allies and family (besides a very young sister totally dependent on him) from a very young age. My favorite thing about any story is dialogue. It's what really makes or breaks are story for me. It's why I love GoT/HotD, it's why I love HxH, it's why I love Vinland Saga... Dialogue is king. It brings realism and depth to a story unlike anything else can. Game of Thrones has literally the greatest dialogue I've ever heard/read in a TV series. Narratively it is brilliant, but in terms of dialogue... It's in a league of it's own.

House Velaryon does show up at later times in GOT but Martin the author did not bring them forward as main characters. They are hidden in a few scenes. He said in an interview there were too many houses to focus on already here. In the books they are involved a bit but are not the focus of the story.
