ALRIGHT ladies and gentlemen it is time. We are so excited to begin this new seinen/non-shonen/more mature playlist lol. We want to have options for everyone and are aware that the majority of the content has been shonen centered. We started fullmetal for that reason, and we will be holding polls at the conclusion of this playlist for what will follow, along with the main playlist that is currently occupied by One Punch Man.

This new anime will begin after next week along with FULL TIME STUDIO GEK😤🤫 Y'all aren't ready. THIS IS ROUND 1 OF VOTING! After a few days the top 4 will be in round 2 and that will be the final vote!

ALSO: For those wondering, this won't get in the way of finishing 86, that will resume along with full time beginning!

I studied a little bit of engineering physics as well as having studied Calculus, and I was a little impressed to see an anime such as Steins;Gate incorporate real concepts from Physics into the show (haven't played the VN, but I know it does go deeper with the Physics). Of course, the hallmark of the anime for me personally was watching the friendships between the characters, and the hard sacrifices these characters had to make for the sake of others.

dude fr nothing rivals steins;gate's time travel mechanics, the visual novel goes super deep into the science of it all too and it's so cool, it legit got me really into physics. They put so much effort into getting it all right, must've had proffessors either on the team or people they could consult in all kinds of fields

You can't honestly say that the rest of the dub cast is unremarkable when it has Yuri Lowenthal, Troy Baker, Liam O'Brien, Steve Bloom, Travis Willingham etc. Some of the best VAs in the bussiness. Yuri is Sasuke and Spiderman, Troy Baker is Pain and a lot of game characters(most notably Joel for the last of us), Steve Bloom is Orochimaru and Frieza and Travis is Roy Mustang.

Cowboy Bebop is The Simpsons of anime. Literally everyone has seen it. It aired every single night, many times even multiple times a night, on Adult Swim for nearly 2 decades, and that's not including when they would marathon it for 6 hours on the weekend sometimes... Cartoon Network really truly milked that series as much as they could.

I usually hate dub, but I actually like dub Lelouch because it's literally just JYB doing copy and paste dub Ichigo, which is one of the best dub VAs you could ask for. The rest of the dub cast is unremarkable though. Meanwhile sub is filled with top VAs, namely Jun Fukuyama and Norio Wakamoto. I mean half of the Code Geass memes revolve around Wakamoto's ridiculously over the top performance.

Yeah true. But they did say they are "full time Gek" now. I'll be honest they could make a $25 or $30 monthly tier that was literally just Bleach only and I'd sub. I think it's the only shounen I routinely go back and rewatch on my own. That fucking OST man, sells every scene so hard. They really did strike gold with the music.

If CODE GEASS wins, I’ve listened to both sub and dub and I highly recommend the dub. The MC has “theater” kid energy (in the best way possible) that IMO the sub doesn’t convey well. The setting is in “England” and a lot of the dub VAs were already pros in western mainstream media at the time so the dub matches extremely well with the animation. The sub is also amazing tho but I think you’ll be missing out on some iconic moments (similar to Erwin’s death charge) if you choose to go sub 👍

Frieren isn't as slow as Vinland S2 but it's also not telling a massive overarching story like Vinland is. Vinland S2 builds up to a pretty big crescendo whereas Frieren stays low key for most of the series. Not a bad thing of course and I love Frieren but it would be a shame for them to react to Frieren when there are so many options that would just give a better reaction. Not to mention Frieren is actually a Shonen haha.

Defo keep some of the failed for another poll in the future cos damn, insane selection. Parasyte, Code Geass, JoJo, Steins Gate, Monster, Samurai Champloo, insane. But fr, Berserk 1997 and Cowboy Bebop are just essential classic animes. Surprised that anime fans aren't pushing them more. I know it's only a small section of the manga but the Berserk story is widely agreed on being the best story ever told in Manga and the 1997 anime does a nice job telling the arc it covers. It's short, packed with action, politics, character development, great music, some great animation and freeze frames of heavily detailed work to do the Manga justice. Also wanna see the boys go through that trauma lol. To people saying it'll leave them disappointed because it finishes unresolved, Game of thrones finishes like shit despite being resolved. A resolved story isn't necessarily the best.

You guys should start picking 2 from these, one for YouTube and one as a Patreon exclusive, that way you both watch the popular one and the show people seem to agree is best. I understand the popular vote makes sense for YT, but people on Patreon would definitely be more interested in some of the better shows on here. Honestly, the whole thing about people saying Frieren isn't a good series to react to is kinda dumb imo. They've literally reacted to Vinland Saga season 2 and you cannot tell me that Frieren is way more slow-paced than it or that VS S2 was "not a good group watch" just because it was slower. Berserk is a low key classic, a cool and smooth watch, the story is in moments incredible, because of the great writing, its quite simple but very engaging because the characters are written so well, so not confusing, music amazing, action moments top tier, hype af, and the ideas put in this are great, very memorable. Re:Zero is absolutely fantastic. It's my #1 of all time and I think it sets up its mysteries and world even better than Attack on Titan. I'm guessing Season 3 will catapult Re:Zero's relevancy again, and the boys might (hopefully) start watching it while Season 3 is airing. I think waiting for Season 3 to start is the right move though, especially considering the quality of content that Season 3 will be adapting.

Frieren is one of the best fantasy/slice of life anime all time but I would argue it’s not in the top 5 anime in the past decade. I think Frieren is hella recency biases but it’s still a goat. I think jjk, AOT, Vinland saga and older animes like death note, code geass, and steins gate would be some examples that are in even terms with Frieren and debatably better . Frieren is hella refreshing cuz there’s not really any off putting anime tropes and it’s wholesome af. But IMO there’s no dramatic scenes that the geks usually enjoy in shows such as AoT, GoT, Vinland saga.

Actually, Gigguk was only referring to S2 when he’d said that. I was the one who extended it to the whole show because I honestly think he was being too lenient on S1. I mean I love Lelouch. Eh, LeLouche’s dub is amazing for sure, but some of the important side characters are pretty mediocre/bad (nunally especially). The sub has amazing performances for every character and it’s pretty crucial to watch the original Japanese voice acting because it really raises the quality of the show.

It’s a sci-fi mystery in an post-apocalyptic world. It’s hard to sell since it’s a series that’s best going into blind, but I recommend to binge watch it, makes it easier to catch all the small details that’s important to the story. It’s dark and has some triggering topics. I personally loved it, and I think it was beautifully animated. Haven’t read the manga yet (but I do own it) since the volumes out ended on the same part as the anime. The manga has a really slow release schedule.

Monster is great show, but it's a slow burn. If I wasn't able to binge it I would not have enjoyed it nearly as much, but for them doing maybe 2-3 episodes at a time I could see them feeling underwhelmed compared to the pacing of most other shows they watch. Are you familiar with Berserk Redux/Golden Age fan edit? This is how I watched Berserk after years of seeing controversy about the different animated projects and it was honestly a fantastic experience, with of course the greatest downside of a massive cliffhanger ending that leaves you only with the mange because I refuse to touch those CG abominations. Oh but also to clarify, the fan edit takes the animated series and the movies and stitches them together to make a surprisingly well cut complete experience, to fill in the gaps of each with the parts of both.

A third of these poll options are suspense/thrillers that anyone who voted for one probably likes all of them but the vote is being split between which is their personal favorite of that genre. We all need to unite behind one and pool our votes. Parasyte is leading among those so while I'd love Psycho Pass up higher I'm trying to win here. Also surprised Monster is getting the votes that it is considering it's such a slow burn. Misunderstanding what a seinen is aside, this is a very diverse list, congrats. But to me Berserk 1997 can only be complementary to the manga, sorry not sorry. And while I want them to experience what I think is the best ending in anime history, subjecting functioning, intelligent, adult human beings to some of the plotlines of Code Geass is cruel. The show is a car cash that somehow perfectly parallel parked to quote Gigguk. Now subjecting functioning, intelligent, adult human beings to Jojo is another story but they're not there yet. One day though. And Fate Series? Can we all agree, for their sake at least, to ignore this? Because no one is ready to deal with this minefield of all the 'wrong' and 'right' ways to get into or consume the Fate universe. Everything else, except Erased ofc (seriously guys?!), is a banger and I hope they will always be in a poll so we can go through all of them.

what I call depth is the theme and meaning of the story. For me a deep story is one where you take a lot of time to think about the subject but also about deeper ideas that are not directly communicated. also its not because a story is deep that this will resonate in everyone, perhaps the themes addressed in vs and a silent voice touched you more and those in frieren seemed anecdotal to you

I like the manga's pacing, but the '97 anime feels off in this regard. I don't think anime will ever do some of the artwork justice in terms of quality but certain studios could do incredibly well if they wanted to take it up.

Also we can’t be sure that Haikyuu will win next main poll, there seems to be a lot of haters on patreon ( they really do hate Haikyuu popularity ) and purposely vote for other anime just so Haikyuu loses. That is literally what happened last poll, we all know Haikyuu would have more viewers/watchers then OPM cause it has a better storyline and characters but OPM still ended up winning due to haters. I would argue those topics about appreciating the people around you/time spent, while wholesome, is not deep at all. It’s very basic humanity. That is why I don’t think Frieren particularly creates any interesting philosophical discussion. Vinland Saga on the other hand challenges the world view of glorifying violence and a refreshing take on pacifism. Most people probably find Frieren more relatable but that relatability doesn’t mean more depth. Valuing time with others, while amazing, IMO doesn’t have much depth since this is what we all learn as humans growing up in this world. Frieren executed those thoughts extremely well. And it is a good wholesome show. But I will die on the hill that the values taught and the story told doesn’t have much depth.

I think you're wrong, Frieren addresses deep subjects like the inevitability of time passing, or the importance of really getting to know the people who are dear to us. Code Geass, Psychopass, Steins Gate, Monster are all GOATs. I BEG of you to not watch Frieren. Or move the anime to a slice of life/wholesome category such with OPM and Haikyuu. Frieren is a great feel-good show but story wise it is nothing special. It does not compare to the philosophical depth of V.S. or drama from AoT that Code Geass has. Anyone deciding on a vote, please do Code Geass. I encourage all of you to watch the first episode of the show and tell me the Geks would not enjoy it. *edit* Frieren is an amazing show but it would be like comparing the movie “Forrest Gump” to “LotR”. Berserk 1997 is a masterpiece of the 90's up there with Evangelion. Beautiful beautiful adaptation that of course is not without faults but it's really incredible. The colour palette alone ahhhh. As much as I love Berserk, it doesn't have any adaptations that are on par with the manga and none of them cover even close to the whole thing. I'd still give it a watch as it's not incredibly long and might make you guys + viewers more interested in the manga. I've heard incredible things about Steins;Gate, Code Geass, and Frieren (all the top-voted right now), so I think you're in for something good regardless.
