@Andy It naturally turns people away with its art style. I personally can't get into One Piece at all, and I've genuinely tried because my IRL best friend is obsessed with it. The art style/character designs are just bottom of the barrel atrocious to me. They're extremely off-putting. It's also filled to the brim with goofy shit like randomly enormous giant people and furries/animal people (the number one thing I couldn't stand in early DBZ), constant slapstick gags and just all around obnoxious over-the-top zaniness.

I also think Gaara is one of, if not, the best written character and knew he was gonna be my favorite first time he appeared. Rock Lee is one of Cannon's favorite characters, but couldn't he be considered "weird" too? Isn't everybody in this show "weird" in some way? I think the things that are considered weird for each character makes them unique and brings up fun converations.
