I always get so heartbroken over the dragons scenes. Dany makes such a big mistake chaining her children, especially while being the breaker of chains. Rhaegal and Viserion did nothing wrong at all, and i know for sure that rebellious Drogon definitely didn't intend to burn/kill that poor child. He must of been recklessly cooking his food again like before, there's no way he'd just harm a child for no reason, they're too intelligent. Also, in the Hounds defense, he was protecting Arya and was definitely much weaker after having his onfected bite. Even Arya mentions him being slower than normal after that.

She was not the judge, she was a witness. A witness doesn't decide on the penalty of the defendant. Even if a person could in fact falsely testify to manipulate and guarantee a person gets the death penalty, in our justice system the punishment for that false testimony is NOT death, so check your morality guys. You are flying a bit high on the Tyrion fan train. I love his character too but lets get back to reality. I see so many people gangbanging wanting to murder a woman simply because why, because you hate her?? ...by all our laws and morality she does NOT in fact deserve to die. Altho, she does deserve all the hate she gets, depending on the circumstances of her side of the story that we werent actually shown in full. We dont know how Tywin/Cersei talked to her off camera after she was found out to be Tyrion's lover. There is no amount of witnesses that would change Tywin's plans about sentencing Tyrion to death. He was the one that MADE SURE Shae was put on that witness stand, if you think about it, it is pretty obvious, since Tywin/Cersei are the only ones that want Tyrion dead and Shae just fell into their lap like a surprise gift.

IT's ok Jack. Honestly there are a lot of Eyrie and Bolton scenes this season that people gloss over that aren't my favorite. I think 8.9-9.0 for the season could be justified. Plus, you went first with the rating. They set you up. If you went last, you probably would have gauged their pleasure over the season and adjusted. episodes 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10 are all great episodes.

4x10 is arguably the best episode in the whole series. A masterpiece from start to finish and as good as GOT ever gets, IMO - with the exception of 6x10, which is right on par. That said, seasons 5-6 are still well worth the watch!

Tywin told Tyrion not to bring that whore to court. Tyrion did and used Varys, Pod, and Bronn to take her back and forth to his chamber. Set her up as Sansas handmaid -- all to cover that she was there. Cersei thought she discovered that Roz was Tyrions lover because Tyrion gave Roz a lion necklace while in Winterfell. Cersei was a direct threat to finding out and beating Shae or worse. Cersei interrogated her during Blackwater but was interrupted by Lancel. Shae was spotted by Cersei's handmaid who told Cersei, who then told Tywin during Joffrey's wedding rehearsal dinner. Tywin replies just before the dinner begins "have her brought to the Tower of the Hand". Tywin said at least 3x to Tyrion how disappointed he was he married a whore and slept with them and brought them around, and that he would hang the next one he found in his bed. That is a threat. Many. That Tyrion kept mentioning to Shae and she didn't listen. We did not see what happened once she was brought to Tywins chamber but from all that actual evidence in the show, one can actually assume he threatened her life since he doesn't make idle threats. Shae, having just been scorned by Tyrions lie about not loving her anymore, was more willing to go along to spare her life. I have no idea why the writers chose not to make any of this more apparent but it definitely wasn't absolutely clear that she simply decided to team up with Tywin to betray Tyrion mostly based on the fact that she was in danger a lot and Tywin requested to see her and he had already threatened her life. She should not have betrsyed him, but she did it out of duress. Who else in kings landing has done anything not out of duress??? The scenes were just poorly written imo.

She had some redeeming qualities as a human being. Killing her for being an opportunist in a world of Thrones seems weird, because literally everyone in that world is looking to get up on the ladder. The fact that she ended up in Tywin's bed in the end could be her moving on and taking the opportunity after she got burned by all of them (from her own perspective), and that is IF Tywin coerced her into testifying by threatening her life. So after she testified, maybe Tywin was like... I will find another use for you... and offered her a way out of her misery. Remember, she is a BOTTOM FEEDER, the lowest social level human being. Whores dont have much agency in this world. What do you expect? She still doesnt deserve to be killed for lying in court, at least not according to our own morality. I wonder if people here think Tyrion killed her in "self defence" and would be funny to see anyone argue that he did, since he is the one that basically showed up to her bed in the middle of the night and jumped on top of her. So how do you justify our boy Tyrion basically being a murderer? Not even mentioning him killing Tywin right after. I just find it strange how people willingly forgo their morality when they are shown mostly the perspective of the "main characters" for which it is easy to have sympathy for since we see their side of things. I think the whole romance/plot between Shae and Tyrion is so badly done in the show compared to the book since it doesnt really give much of her perspective or side of things so a lot of the questions on her side remain unanswered, so it's easier to hate her, which I think is just lazy show writing. Basically force feeding the audience the "right" answer about who is in the right, when I think both Shae and Tyrion are responsible for what happened to them. Blaming it completely on her is not holding Tyrion accountable for his own shit. If he straight up didnt lie to her face and made her think their whole relationship was a lie, possibly none of this would have ever happened. From her perspective, he used her and then threw her away like a piece of garbage while lying to her the whole time. If she was smart she would have left when Varys gave her that pouch of money.

FINALLY THE SHAE REVEAL!!! FUCK HERRRRRRR!!! she didn't beg, she didn't plead, she didn't try to explain cause she knew the fucking jig was UP!!! no more of her bad acting, pretending to love him he knows, we all know, she's finally gone along with Tywinn. This is a lot of people's favorite seasons because everything we've known as normal suddenly is flipped around. This season leaves off with people marching on completely different roads than before. From Dany to Jon everyone is finding a new normal for them. They've all had major character development this season. I think there are a lot of layers as to why Arya didn't finish him off. Just like there are many layers to their relationship. I don't necessarily think she wanted him to suffer more so than she didn't think it was worth killing him for. He's not necessarily a good person but he did get mortally wounded defending her, he only was protecting her to feed his pocket but at this point there was no one to pay him anyway, he's a killer but so is she which i think she understands more now that it's to survive. The respect, trust, understanding, and care they have for each other is muddled.

Hey Brig and McKay, I know you guys are IMDB guys. If the others are IMDB guys then this is definitely for you. I also am an IMDB guy and I watched this show live from the very beginning. This show started off immediately over 9 rating after season one (9.2 if I remember correctly) and it claimed as the seasons progressed. It was a 9.5 after season 3. Breaking Bad was 9.5 rating and airing around the same time so they were battling it out for the best IMDB show rating. By the end of season 5 it finally made it to 9.6. It held onto 9.6 up until season 8. By the end of season 8, fans were so upset that the rating had fallen to 9.2. So Game of thrones truly is a 9.6 IMDB rated show.

U don’t understand when little changes were made in early seasons people said it’s great and close to the books but those little changes had ripples effects further down the line that made significant changes later. Tyrion killed Shae because she had the knife and was trying to kill him. He had already gone through a lot as an innocent man whose family knows he is innocent and tried to have him killed, and he was already very upset at Shae for the trial. And then her fucking his father gave him plenty of motivation to want to harm her. But her trying to kill him? That’s what made it happen. He even looks at the knife in surprise and disgust when he first scuffles with her and ends up on top and first sees the knife.

I'll disagree. Keep in mind, this is what Jaime thinks and not what is realistic. That line is just inserted straight from the books from an internal monologue that Jaime has, and there are better fighters in the books that are omitted from the show. For instance Loras has a brother who is supposedly even better with a sword than Loras. The Cleganes are more brute force than technique/skill and an elite swordsman like Jaime can probably dog walk them like Oberyn did. If I remember correctly, Jaime think the Cleganes have a chance against him, but he would win. And he considers Sandor a bigger threat than the mountain. His version of a great swordsman is Ser Barristan and Ser Arthur Dayne, who he describes as artists. I think the three are: Barristan Selmy, Loras Tyrell (Garlan if it's the books) and Oberyn.

Well yes, that was her profession, but Tywin threatened her. He called for her to be brought to him before the wedding. Pretty sure he then threatened to hang her like he promised or side with him to send Tyrion away once he got that chance, and be used like the whore she is (by him and whoever) to put her back in her place. Brigg you can go around the wall by boat. The east side actually has a manned nights watch castle by the sea called “Eastwatch by the Sea”. They look after that side and Stannis went through Eastwatch to get to where he is with Jon and the wildlings. The west side of the wall, the ocean is WAY more perilous and dangerous but it’s possible to go by boat. That’s how Osha got south of the wall, she took a boat around. The omission of the Tysha confession from the books completely changes Tyrion’s character and whole arc. Won’t go too much into it because of spoilers. I get why they didn’t do it, because Peter Dinklage made Tyrion THAT much more likable than in the books (and he’s amazing in the books obv). But for me this episode the real beginning of the end of peak GoT. Idk if you boys like reading lol but the books are so goddamn good. Huh? Wasn't it D&D themselves who said HBO wanted more? Why would they lie, you can't seriously believe HBO made them lie in an interview? The quote is literally from David: "HBO would have been happy for the show to keep going, to have more episodes in the final season. We always believed it was about 73 hours, and it will be roughly that. As much as they wanted more, they understood that this is where the story ends." Also, why in the world would HBO try and end their cash cow early? They literally announced about 10 more spinoffs around that time too. Season 6 is what culminates all the greatest plot points from the first 5 seasons into one… Ayra’s training arc is my favorite arc in the show but season 6 is where we get the satisfying payoff, and all the great reunions… 4, 5, and 6 are all close to me tho.

I think people love what her character could have been. They probably love that idea in their head and mix it up with what we actually got. If her character had more time to breathe and if it had a few seasons for the development of what transpired between the current events and the ending up to season 8 where her "development" took a rather rushed turn, I believe most people wouldn't be as disappointed. I think she was supposed to be a highly idealistic character with good intentions whose righteousness impacted her character in a big way. It is an interesting concept and would have been fun to see played out on screen if we had been lucky enough to have someone other than the writers that we ended up getting. Sadly we got fckd.

I agree, those three are most likely who he referred to. Jaime specialises in longswords which means who wouldn't really be able to do much against the Mountain in a 1v1 fight or he would at least struggle against him. The only ones I can think of that could easily take down the mountain would be prime Bobby B with his warhammer or a theoretical Oberyn that doesn't have other motives during the fight.

Season 6 has the same levels of peak as the first four seasons. That’s why people are blinded and potentially put it as their top season. The problem with season 6 is the writting has taken further hits after season 5 and the moment to moment of season 6 is very weak compared to the first 4 seasons even season 5.

Tyrions court speech one of the best scenes in the entire show. (won an emmy for it) 5. We learn that Little Finger and Lysa started the entire Lannister and Stark war 6. Little finger and moon door 7. Prince Oberyn is goat the enire season and his fight with the Mountain 8. The Nights Watch battle is one of the best battle episodes of all time period and rip Ygritte. 9. The finale ummm Tyrion escapes Shae and Tywin death and Hound and Biriane fight and Hound death 10. The Hound and Arya this season were peak the best duo and they ate all the fucking chicken. Already goated season without Bran and Dannys storyline. seasons 1-4 are peak though.

I agree, the first 4 is up there with the GOATS but still slightly below in my opinion. After season 4, it went from one of my top shows to not even in my top 10. But yes I agree with you 100 percent. And to those that think any negative comments will affect the boys reactions going into it somehow, they’ve already heard the negativity long before they started watching the show. They know. And as always the Geks have been pretty damn good at being honest with their opinions and reactions. AOT season 4 was hated on for awhile and so was the ending and the boys rated it the final season the highest. They’ll be fine. The same can be said if you overhype something. They were t even writing the whole series at that point. It sounds like a totally themed up statement to put out. We can’t believe everything they say because they are all under contracts. George wanted 10 seasons & 100 episodes yes, but a quote from his Agent: "Dan and Dave were tired, rightfully so," Haas said in Miller's book. "They were done, and wanted to move on, so they cut it short and then negotiations became, how many seasons can we stretch this out? Because of course HBO wanted more." One of my biggest critiques of the show is not showing all of the fantastical elements more often and from the beginning, bc there is a lot of fantasy in this world. On multiple occasions in the show, Shae was given the chance to leave. She was offered bags of diamonds & gold to sail away to another life somewhere else. Where she could have a house, servants, and riches. But, what did she continuously choice to do? Stay & fight against arguably the most powerful people in the realm. After being told how ruthless and serious the situation was. Shae choose wrong & died horribly for it. Strangled by a man that loved her & by the gold that could have saved her life.

HOWEVER, the show runners, the money guys and the network (all who are the people who the writers and everyone else has to listen to) wanted to end faster to make peak money possible. So we lost our better ending to “the money man” the writers did what they could with the time they were given. You can’t make it all make sense when you’re given so many constructions like time, storylines, character arcs, meeting contractual obligations of screen time, location time limits for shooting…etc etc. most people have zero clue what it takes to make ONE EPISODE come together. The Hound and Arya's relationship is peak Game of Thrones for me. The Hound is such an amazing character because he's the prototypical victim of circumstance. Grew up in a horribly abusive house and was pledged to a horribly evil King, yet his actual good nature always struggles to fight to the surface (his care for Sansa and Arya, gentle treatment of that dying man by the road, etc). He's committed evil actions but they become very understandable given his background and the positions he was placed in (think Jamie's explanation of duty vs personal ethics). He also acts as a juxtaposition with the other characters who've been born to lavish lifestyles and are incredibly callous and cruel. I think this season makes a strong argument that people's nature outweigh their nuture. Can be raised in horribly hateful environments yet still have a good heart fighting towards the light.

Cannon, the only way you could understand Shae's actions is if you assume she was doing everything while being under threat to her own life. After being discovered to be Tyrion's lover, she could have been given an option by Tywin - either we execute you, or you will do exactly as we say, and while you do as we say, we will also pay you or something like that. So, after from her perspective, Tyrion betrayed her, while offering her NO explanation for his actions (he basically told her you're a whore and I dont care about you at all, so get lost), she gets told she will be executed for sleeping with a son of the Hand while he was married to Sansa, I think her choice was pretty obvious. Anyone would do the same. Expecting her to be idealistic and die for the one she loves... but the one she loves just told her that she's a whore, betrayed her, told her to get lost and he doesnt want to ever see her anymore... so all her ideas about love between them probably started to seem like his lies from that point. She doesn't know he did that to protect her. She ACTUALLY thinks he fell in love with Sansa and wanted to get rid of her, and with the way he communicated to her, without telling her straight up, and instead lying to her, I don't really expect her to know better. Was she supposed to read his mind? But either way, none of her actions are excusable, and are disgusting. The only way I could understand her doing it and still actually loving Tyrion before everything went sour, was if she was threatened to be killed by Tywin or Cersei after Tyrion told her to get lost.

Obviously it takes a lot to make everyone completely flip in just one season so you weren't gonna get people hating on season 5 or 6 the same way they did with 7 and 8 but that doesn't mean that they weren't without faults. 5 and 6 still had some terrible plotlines and decisions and don't hold up as as a whole on a rewatch imo. And whilst its true that season 5 had some stuff from the books, it had also caught up with the books in other parts and was the point where storylines started to come together and D&D had to start coming up with their own versions of events which are undeniably worse than the level we had been getting before and would probably get with the books

Not to segue into a different topic so abruptly but I’m so confused with people saying that the last 4 seasons have no relation to the source material when season 5 is quite literally straight from the source, books 4-5. They made some changes but it was still heavily influenced by the books and it’s major plot points. Season 6 takes us in some unknown waters. It’s a rough sketch of book 6 Winds of Winter. But GRRM has literally stated that the books will basically end the same way GOT did minus a few differences for minor characters and such. The journey to the end will be different in the books but the writers 1000% got the major plot points in the next seasons from the author himself. With that said, going on about how much you hate the later seasons, won’t change the fact that majority of people and critiques loved 5-6. Let the boys find out for themselves.

I feel like I'm in an alternative reality. The Shae death was different in my memory. It was just like what his father did with the girl he loved when he was younger, that was a whore. I remember Tyrion walking inside the castles, finding Shae being thrown around between knights and having to act like she's enjoying it for the coin but she was looking sad at Tyrion's face and then when they were finished they killed her and that's what got him really mad to murder his father. I don't know why I have such a clear memory of this if it's not the actual scene.

The writing takes a back seat to other priorities. Plenty of people still enjoy later seasons more despite those problems. The fact you can't see how people can still enjoy it is a YOU problem. Swap 6 and 4 and it's my same ranking. S4 is better overall for me but there are undeiably a few of the best episodes s6. Writing problems notwithstanding from 5 on, it was an acceptable trade off for me -- until season 8: I don't even disagree with their overall story decisions, but their execution was awful unfortunately. But going in not expecting the Greatest Final Season of All Time (like all us watching live did) is really all one needs to at least enjoy it. All this "skip season 8" talk is dumb -- it has its worthwhile moments.

Great reaction boys. I think tyrion and tywin's relationship/storyline is one of the best father/son relationship depicted. Tywin who was such a great political mind & was great at reading people failed to see that out of all his children it was Tyrion who had his political talents and would've been the most capable of continuing the Lannisters legacy. Tywin's embarrassment and resentment of Tyrion led to his demise.

I do have to disagree with the Gek’s take on Jon snow’s depth not being nuanced enough. Which to each their own! I respect their opinion! But to me, personally, he is arguably one of the most nuanced characters in the whole series. Top 3 in my opinion. At this point his father has been killed, his brother has been killed, which he couldn’t do anything about, his sisters and little brothers are missing, he grew up a bastard treated harshly by Catelyn, and he is now at the epicenter of a pivotal moment in history with the wildlings and white walkers. Yet he is making his own way in the world. The issue is that I think the only thing the show didn’t do justice was completely fleshing out some of Jon’s inner thoughts from the books up until this point. He has amazing dialogue and complexity in the books that was left out. That isn’t to say Jon in the show is less deep, you just don’t see it as blatantly. With that being said, Kit Harrington absolutely nailed Jon’s character. The subtleties in his expressions… yeah 😎

Game of Thrones also died with Tywin Lannister. Everything went downhill from here because there are no books to follow pretty much after this. There is very less source material published. The David and Dan made clueless seasons devoid of logic and any where as good as the first four seasons after this season. I will not watch the next seasons with you guys. I just wish Martin had published books sooner and we had them for the rest of seasons as well. Season 5 to 8 has some moments but it is just plain terrible most of times.

The title of this episode being The Children has so many implications. You have the Children of the Forest introduced. You had the focus on how Dany can’t control her children, which resulted in the death of a child. And you have the fact that this episode focused on Tywin’s children, who will all be impacted greatly by his death. And that epic ending with Arya sailing off to Braavos.

It’s just the reality of it. Sure, knowing what Dorne was supposed to be makes 5 seem a lot worse. But even without knowing that, the way the Sandsnakes are presented is just obviously awful. The way that whole storyline goes with Doran and Elaria is just obviously a mess. And episode 10’s just weird - like they didn’t pace it properly. But I do agree on one thing. Season 5 gets more hate than it deserves. But season 6 gets more love than it deserves. Sure, season 6 has great moments. But when you actually have time to think about it, a lot of it just doesn’t make sense or is obviously rushed. Not as rushed as 7 and 8, which are actually stupid, but rushed.

Defending Shae is weird to me too. Honestly I feel like the show kind of botched her character. In the books it’s very clear she doesn’t love Tyrion, and Tyrion is a much more gray character in the book as well. Also, not to defend Shae, but she was a prostitute, and Tywin could have her killed or done whatever he wanted with her. I don't think she had much choice in the matter unless you'd rather she get herself killed. If she listened to Tyrion in the first place, none of this would've happened to her though.

I always say, Seasons 1-4 is Classic GoT. 5-6 is a mix between classic with some flaws. 7-8 isnt bad, its just lack of a better comparison, MCU coded. Its way more commercial and only looked as bad due to what came before it.

Well it’s been fun guys. For me tywins death signifies the official death of game of thrones as a “masterpiece” tv show. While i still enjoy a few episodes from now on, season 5 is the beginning of the decline into what becomes the worst final two seasons I’ve ever seen. I’m still keen for the reactions but all you positivity merchants aren’t going to stop me from expressing my frustration with what’s to come.
