2024-07-13 21:41:49 +0000 UTCOk, the way you guys use the term trope drives me crazy. You are both right and wrong. A trope in a story of some sort is synonymous with a cliche. A theme or outcome that gets used over and over again in storytelling. Like young protagonists running to school or wherever they're going in anime is a pretty common trope. So it always throws me when you guys talk about tropes in an anime because I have only ever seen you referring to the times they do goofy drawings of characters 😂. Technically that is A trope but it's also just one of MANY. There's more than one dawgs hahaha

2024-07-11 16:29:05 +0000 UTCI really like the manga for Kaiju no. 8, it’s not a masterpiece but it’s a solid story and it does a good job in building up the characters and their loyalty to each other. The characters are my favorite part. It also has great art and lettering and the weapons design goes crazy! I think it’s interesting that the mangaka hired someone else to design them and it definitely paid off. When you’re finished watching the anime you should definitely look them up. Unfortunately I don’t think they look as good in the anime (they definitely did my favorite character dirty with his design) but it’s still a great adaptation and I enjoy watching it.

2024-07-11 07:06:49 +0000 UTCI read this manga around when it first came out... I always envisioned the animation being darker/grittier like Attack on Titan. In that respect I'm a bit disappointed, I think the bright and happy colors aren't great. The show is supposed to be like 60% serious and 40% comedy, where the comedy blends into the seriousness of the story. Serious anime tend to have more contrasted tones, and the comedy slides in as a form of relief. In this, it has the same bright and happy color profile as comedic anime and shonen like MHA.

I wouldn't really say it does anything unique and the story isn't anything special, but the animation is nice, the characters are likeable enough, and overall it's just a fun, chill watch. It's the type of anime you don't really think about much after it's over, but are casually looking forward to season 2. I would give it a solid 8-8.5/10.

The main cast personalities are pretty different from the main cast in aot, and the main characters goals also differ from erens. But this is just my opinion from me seeing the first season. You may have a different view if you’ve read the manga.
