I mean you cant compare the bonds and all the “controlling” from hotd with got. It’s like 172 years after all the dragons died no one has ever seen one again, she has to figure everything out alone she doesn’t have anyone living in her family. But she does have a great relationship in the books with all three ! In the show they just made a bad decision making her look like she only gives love and affection to drogon but that doesn’t happen in the books.

Great discussion at the end! Dany in Mereen is really interesting because it shows the difference between conquering and ruling, and it raises the question of whether Targaryens are actually fit to rule. The Valyrians were bred for thousands of years to be conquerors and their empire was really brutal, they constantly conquered and made slaves of other people. If we look at HotD for a minute, Daemon is what the archetypal Targaryen would be, Viserys is actually an exception. Conquering when you have dragons is not that difficult, but ruling is hard either way. And now Dany is facing these challenges and being made aware of her father's failings of being a good ruler.

Honestly aside from everything everyone else has already mentioned, I also think the fact Drogon is kind of in and out and is significantly larger everytime Dany sees him has to play a part in the hesitance lol, she hasn't had the chance to bond with him on a regular basis like they can in hotd and on top of that he's growing at a crazy rate. Another thing I noticed especially after the last hotd episode is that their relationships are more like best friends or close siblings, whereas with Dany and her dragons it's more a mother-child dynamic

One thing to keep in mind with daenerys and her relationship with the dragons being different is that in HotD, dragons were a lot more common and the targaryens essentially had the rule book of how to tame and bond with dragons at that point, in daenerys time dragons have been dead for a 100 years at this point and literally the only advice she was ever given on looking after dragons was by her brother Viserys, who knew very little himself. She's literally figuring it out as she goes along

Yes, danys dragons seem to behave differently than house of the dragon. This could be because of the environments the dragons were raised in but honestly it’s just the writing lol. Remember, game of thrones came first, so there was no precedent of Targaryen-dragon relationships before. A lot of the minor differences (like how fast the dragons are growing) is simply because of the different writing of the two shows so I wouldn’t try to compare the them in that regard

My opinion on which actor is the better Daario Naharis is neither, because the character is trash. Even after multiple rewatches, I find Daario boring and obnoxious. At least the "evil" characters were interesting and I loved to hate them. Not Daario. He has no depth and despite all his claims of being such a "badass" he never really does anything super impressive. He is a one-dimensional snore. I hated Daario just as much (if not more) in the books, so it is not just the TV version of him that I can't stand. Go ahead and roast me, but it won't change my opinion.

He was brought before the queen and her court and admitted to murder. The son of the harpy they found was arrested but admitted to ko crime and no evidence was presented proving he committed a crime. Hiding implies wrongdoing, it does not prove it. Having items that other criminals gave also implies wrongdoing, but again is not proof. The issue is that everyone expects her to show favoritism to the freed people over the former masters, but she is trying to treat everyone as the same. As was mentioned by someone, you can't change society in the blink of an eye, it will be messy and that's what we see here.

HotD dragons and danys dragons are completely different. hotd dragons, they are more like best friends or pets with their riders. and danys dragons have a mother and son relationship , pretty sure she breast feeds them in the books. and drogon flew away cuz dany was a bit hesitant to touch him cuz she was overwhelmed with how big he’s gotten. in the books dany has a very distinct relationship with each of her dragons. viserion is more of the mama boy/girl and drogon and rhaegal are the rebellious sons. wish the show showed us this more, maybe it’s cuz of budget.

A narrative mistake that I wish was paid more attention to by the producers of Game of Thrones is Drogon's rapid growth between seasons. His overall size at this point isn't entirely irregular, especially if you consider magic potentially playing a part in his birth and growth, as well as Drogon having the ability to fly and feed freely. However, the changes made between seasons are too drastic, and instead he should have grown gradually. I think about this for every scene between Drogon and Daenerys in these later seasons and wish it would just be properly explained or shown consistently.

Daenerys' point in giving the Son of the Harpy a trial was because she didn't know what he did, while she knows Mossador murdered someone she had imprisoned. She wanted to appear impartial and while I don't believe he deserved death, that's her rationale.

What’s crazy is the show continues to visually improve better and better even when the writing falls off a cliff. Season 7/8 look so incredible. I even kinda like a lot of the bigger choices they made that I assume that they got bullet points from George RR Martin. Season 8 isn't unenjoyable, it definitely has some great entertaining moments... Season 8 is bad because it's such a massive disappointment. They wrapped up 3+ seasons worth of content in 6 episodes, and it felt extremely rushed. I think they'll enjoy it still, but come out of it like everyone else... Brig, I think that Thorne does respect (acknowledge is probably a better word) Jon for his abilities by this point, even if he dislikes his sympathies for the wildlings. Aliser had to choose between death or taking the black since he fought as a Targaryen loyalist during the rebellion. Ned was one of the main leaders of the rebellion and Jon is his son, which is why he holds so much animosity towards him, regardless of how petty it is. Almost nothing Jon could do would change his mind at this point.

Also the reason Arya doesn’t say Ilyn Payne anymore is because the actor died IRL. I’m just going off memory but I think when they filmed he was battling with cancer that he then ultimately succumbed to. I guess they just decided to not recast and just drop the character out of respect I assume.

i totally understand the house of the dragon comparisons and i do enjoy that they show a lot of the relationships with the dragons a bit more, but I think sometimes we have to remember that the dragons in house of the dragon were completely monitored, controlled, fed on a schedule, housed in the dragon pit. Much in line with Dany's character she has mostly been letting her dragons grow up wild and free, which is a beautiful thought and in line with the way she's carried herself believing in freedom for all, it just makes sense she'd let her dragons grow wild. Unfortunately, it does come at the expense of them being hard to control and with unpredictable temperaments. I don't think Drogon is seeing her as "unworthy" in any way, he's just been raised to be more independent and comes and goes at his whims, but i think that soft moment of him recognizing his mother after roaming free for months and not snapping at her was telling in its own way. The deep connection between Targaryen and Dragon is something that seems to transcend generations and even in the form of wild and free dragons, they still recognize dany as family. Essentially, the relationships with dragons in GOT and HOD are very different simply because Dany has had no guidance but her own instincts which leads her to letting them live free lives for the most part, and in HOD its a much more structured and controlled upbringing. I can appreciate seeing how different the two are but I can also see how watching HOD first before GOT can make the GOT dragons and Dany a bit frustrating to watch at times. My only advice is to hopefully keep this in mind and be patient :) Loved the reaction!
