Nostalgia is not doing enough for me here on this rewatch and some parts I appreciate and other parts I didn't remember being so annoying. It's also interesting how much you enjoy a show when you don't know what will happen next versus when you do. I think the suspense helps cover some of the flaws on a first viewing. This next arc has some great parts, but we'll see about that pacing, and that goes for Shippuuden as well.

2024-07-15 12:06:40 +0000 UTCI agree, Sasuke has a lot more depth to his personality than the edgy revenge-driven emo. He’s still a kid, and still a boy, and a very traumatised one at that. He goes out of his way to protect both Sakura and Naruto throughout the series, because they are people he cares deeply about. In the Forest of Death, it’s only Sakura hugging him and calling out to him that stops his crazy bone-breaking rampage. I also think it’s CRAZY how many people take him calling Sakura “annoying” at face-value, as if partners and friends don’t pretend they’re annoyed by the person they like to hide their true feelings all the time. He’s clearly an awkward and emotionally challenged 13 year old, obviously he’s going to call the girl closest to him annoying. Hell, my best friend lovingly calls me annoying on a daily basis and I know they love me lol !

The Truth is, Kakashi was initially right in his assesment of Sasuke finding new people to care for and potentially give his life for. He knows that Sasuke cares alot about the both of his comrades; Naruto and Sakura, but doesnt know the mental torture as well as the blatant manipulation that Itachi put Sasuke through to be an "avenger".

The Sharingan allows one to not only mimic one's fast twitch muscle movements , but also recall those movements in a sort of 'muscle memory' type fashion. That's how Sasuke was able to copy Lee's movement against Yoroi despite not even having his sharingan active against him. Also how Kakashi was able to use Water Shockwave against Zabuza without actually copying it. And how he uses Water Wall and a Water Clone against Itachi. And Kakashi has shown to be able to use 4 Nature releases without even actively copying anyone, and I think that is mostly thanks to his ability to recall the techniques he copied in battle.

I have no doubt that he has been in enough battles to learn at least 1000 jutsu. I think Naruto is just a show with a lot of holes in the writing that fans try to patch over as best they can. Kakashi being known as the copy ninja with 1000 jutsus is cool, but the copy ninja thing was literally only used in the Zabuza fight and we don't ever see him pull out a bunch of different jutsu all the time.

2024-07-13 17:16:42 +0000 UTCCarter, I think it's more fair to say that Sasuke didn't really start hating Naruto all of a sudden in that hospital scene, but more so that he became painfully aware how weak he was by comparing himself to someone such as Naruto, that he always considered inferior, a laughingstock of the village... So when he realized he got outshined by someone that was the laughingstock of the village, he lashed out and was emotionally out of control. His brother's words pushed him completely out of balance. He started hating himself and his weakness that much more. Naruto is just a living constant reminder of his own failure, of his own trauma that he cant overcome and get past. In his own traumatized psyche the only way he thinks he can "heal" his pain, is if he kills the "source" of his hurt - his brother... but the actual source of the pain isn't the brother killing everyone, it is the absence of LOVE, the absence of loved ones, parents, his sibling, his friends... and this is hopefully the lesson we all eventually learn after dealing with similar life experiences.

She’s not yet strong, so she can’t do much, but she does more than most in terms of care. And academically, she’s the smartest along Shikamaru.

Itachi easily got through every single defense Konoha had so outside of catching his clan and family's murderer, Sasuke will also never feel/be safe while Itachi is free. ETA: the "you're annoying" is a callback to the first few episodes where Sasuke tells Sakura she's annoying for all the things she was saying about Naruto. Directly before that, he told Sakura that he didn't remember any of that so he showed her that he was lying. That's why he was slightly smiling. Thank you guys for the reaction!

If you guys think a filler looks good, watch it! It’s understandable not to want to get bogged down by every single filler, but maybe after you watch everything you could go back and watch fillers that seem interesting to you. I know when I finished I wanted more content, so i went back and watched some filler arcs (some much better than others, but you know how it is).

Not all filler arcs are boring as shit with nothing too them. When I watched shippuden myself, I found myself watching a bunch of filler and enjoying it, since it’s got cool character interactions and world building that isn’t explored too often. But if not oh well just a thought.

And then Kakashi, who up until that point was Sasuke’s only hope of getting stronger, got packed up and put into hospital by Itachi as well. Just the word choice and emphasis on certain words better foreshadows/ displays Sasukes Jealousy, orichimarus intentions and the other internal conflicts/ themes of other characters etc. ( not to mention how much better it explains Genjutsu & the other power systems) which makes things seem less abrupt & sudden to the viewer

The only thing the filler arcs effect later are throwaway flashbacks or lines like we see here. The actual story and plot beats were written before the filler arcs were after all

But to make it connect back to the original manga story they have Sasuke get injured in the filler so he is back at the hospital by the time the cannon starts again. So yeah just pretend it didn’t happen. The actual story is Sasuke is still in the hospital because of the Itachi fight.
