2024-07-24 20:09:26 +0000 UTCJust kinda how Naruto fights go more or less. xD Have to imagine things are actually happening quickly and the pauses are just for us. Animators did the manga dirty with techniques to prolong fights, which make them seem like they have such terrible pacing/timing.

2024-07-23 18:32:13 +0000 UTCI feel like if OG Naruto was ever reanimated to modern anime standards, the pacing/flashbacks/dialogue/pauses would be so much quicker and smoother, and make it so much less obvious that there are all these ‘attack opportunities’. It’s just a downfall of the early 2000s long-running weekly shows unfortunately, things could definitely be condensed and animated to happen much more quickly in 2024. It’s why binge-watching them is so much easier than watching in weekly chunks (thank you guys so much for your patience with it, I can understand the frustration!) Just keep telling yourself the show is over 20 years old, it’s doing its best 😭

Not only that even the fights and the way everyone has grown makes things better than this loll. A lot of things happened within the first 5/10 episodes which shows the difference in the pacing between this and Shippuden so I think they'll enjoy it tbh.

The 300s and 400s set Naruto apart for me, my fav used to be Pain too when I just watched the show casually for the first time. But after a few years of really delving into the story and rewatching the show, I fell in love with episodes 300+ of Shippuden. Just gorgeous and beautifully deep

I can definitely agree that she's totally lacking in og Naruto, but I personally disagree with anyone who still tries to claim her as such by Shippuden (though its truly unfortunate that even then i feel like her chara was kinda done a disservice) I also understand why people hold a certain distaste for her because of how she's treated Naruto at points, but I also believe that its important to acknowledge her character development regardless, even if people still dislike her or not Also I can see what you mean by the last, but I don't really think its about simple childish obsession at that point. Like we can see in her little flashback montage of team 7 how much she's come to value their little unit and time together, and by this point they've already been in several life threatening situations with eachother,,like that's inevitably bound to bring you closer when you're on the same team, right? So beyond something as simple as a crush or obsession, I see it more so as just the desperate last attempt of someone trying to hold onto someone dear to them and the memories they've made, even as they're clearly walking out the door

It's a staple of anime, Novela, Series, Movies. Yes they drag it out a bit here for character development purposes but idk how you just can't ignore it. Why don't you make up a story in your head that maybe the other guys is actually hitting him hard but because of the Spinach pill it's not affecting Choji as usual? Maybe by the 2nd kick, especially in the curse mark mode, they would have already died but Choji is just THAT STRONG it's actually taking him longer to kill him? But when when you hit the arc with the opening bluebird, don’t want to spoil, it’s all up hill from there. Pretty much a sprint to the end. Especially THOSE episodes in the 100s. Can’t wait for them to start Shippuden. That what truly makes this show great above so many others

Shippuden’s storyvjs way more in depth than OG and I think Carter will like it more There is no unnecessary fights or things happening, for the most part. Shippuden gets way more serious, characters have depth and the chance of death means more. Don’t want to spoil. Even the ending part of this arc is heavy that I believe Carter will enjoy it. We will see!

2024-07-21 02:06:31 +0000 UTCI've gotta agree with a lot of what's been noted here - Naruto is a pretty slow go for the first series compared to Shippuden. I think part of that lends to the slow nature of the story, and the rest of it had to do with its presence as a very early (and foundational) long-running series - there wasn't much other foundation for series that aired weekly start to finish, and having both early animation styles and issues with catching up to the manga too quickly. I've been a fan of Naruto since I was 8 or so, and it's my favorite piece of media, but even I understand when I rewatch it how rough some of the early content can be 😭 Shippuden reaaaally carries its own though - as all of us in the comments (as well as McKay & Brig) have noticed and noted - it's only up from here really. I'm really glad you're all starting to enjoy it, if not enjoying it already, and I hope it continues to be a fun experience :~)

2024-07-20 18:28:46 +0000 UTCI know that’s a long comment but I think it’s worth noting. Basically what I’m saying is Naruto is an astronomically slow burn FAR beyond any anime they’ve seen. Its structure is also different from the anime they’ve seen for that reason. For an analytical viewer like Carter focused on writing and plot, Naruto becomes great 300 episodes into Shippuden and it is literally until the final arc that we have enough information to appreciate the greatness of the show in its entirety.

I have a feeling Carter is similar, and will be able to appreciate the show MUCH more after watching the final arc. Also he seems the type to consider Naruto great deep into the story. A certain episode in the 300s, I think will be the turning point. I remember when they were watching the Chunin exams, some of the comments were literally telling them to quit the watch through, and that Naruto is not for them. But even early as now, when the plot has not even been introduced, Jack and Cannon are genuinely enjoying the show. I have faith Carter will as well, but he is more analytical and as someone who is the same, it took me deep into Shippuden to realize the story’s greatness, and the final arc to put it as my definitive greatest. One phrase: “restoring love and what that means.” Think about that phrase and what it means in the final arc, then think about what it means in the story.

Its just /part/ of the explanation...and yeah. Child assassins in training are still /children/. She is also not the only one in class who behaves that way at all, and if you really think so it just sounds like were watching different shows lmao. And it tied horribly into him being an orphan an orphan, but I really don't think him being an orphan was the main point at all. She literally says how she just hates how he interrupts class, disrespects authority, and is always trying to hit on her (which yes, is an issue she has with Sasuke as well, but yet some people want to conveniently bring up for him and yet ignore for Naruto...). And like I said its fine to disagree with the other overall decision, but its not about being his mom...its about being a /team/ and /trying/ to do what you can to help that team. The mission literally had no bearing on the test. It is known /within/ the source material that Naruto had /no chance/ passing the test. His stamina is insane and he's bold in the field, but that means nothing on a written exam which he has no knowledge or preparation for. Yeah Hinata tried to help him...because she was the one that was right next to him and could show him her answers. Again, neither Naruto nor Sakura realized the point to the test was cheating...and even if they did, I'm not ever sure they could've even managed to sneakily trade answers with the abilities they had at the time without being noticed. And Sakura is /canonically/ correct. If the test was set up in the way they said it was, Naruto /wouldn't/ be able to do it. I personally don't find it crazy at all...obviously Naruto can physically raise his own hand, but Sakura knew his own stubbornness and determination would never allow him to. Which if the test wasn't a trap...would again, have been the smart decision. Sakura has her own insecurities, absolutely, but she also has very real reasons to have issues with Naruto...which hasn't even been the case in /dozens/ of episodes though. You're welcome to your own opinions and I'm not even trying to change your mind or anything, most of what I'm saying is just what's genuinely happened in the show...if you don't like Sakura cool, I do. I really don't think there's much else to talk about, lol. Even if I did care about changing your mind I can tell anything Id say wouldn't matter, but that's fine because I don't asbchbd Edit, because I only saw your edit with all the extra stuff now, after I'd already responded lmao: Don't even think that ones canon material, but saying someone cant complain about their parents to a friend because they don't have any just seems wrong imo. Sasuke is from one of the MAJOR clans and has a lot of prior knowledge from that even having lost them so young + gets special training because of it as a genin with Kakashi. We don't really see Naruto doing much on his own outside of pulling pranks and stuff prior to graduating, but after the fact he also gets special attention for a multitude of reasons. Now i gotta drop unnecessary lore on you for this shitty assumption lol When I was 8 my older brother had a foreign exchange student friend who introduced him to naruto 2 years before it was even on toonami. I then in turn watched it as well in sub prior to any dubs existing. It was my first anime (DBZ/pokemon excluded) It got me hooked. I went on to watch Death note as my second anime. (AoT is my all timer) JJK and Vinland saga are the only modern animes I watch but youd be crazy to not believe modern anime pacing is way better than OG anime pacing. Switching to seasonal was both better for animators and the pacing of a series. Now back to you, drop the elitism and team sport mentality to anime fandom and just be kind to people lol, sheesh.

2024-07-19 22:02:39 +0000 UTCI appreciate Carters takes and attempts at understanding Sakura as usual, lol (also the terrified side eye when he tried to defend her was hilarious, lmao) - but while Cannon does have a point on her training and all, it should be noted that Sakura hasss gone on like all the same actual missions as her teammates (regardless of any lacking abilities, yes yes) + since she was disqualified in the prelims everyone's been focused on training up the people actually competing in the finals of the chunin exams, which makes sense, but notice that both Naruto and Sasuke have been given a bunch of solo attention and teachers (multiple in Narutos case) whereas Sakuras been left to her own devices,, a civilian clan girl who's only real connection would be her assigned Jonin teacher, and yet who disappeared off with Sasuke for a month while assigning an instructor to help with Naruto but set up nothing for Sakura to keep learning. Its unfortunate that we don't actually really know anything about what she's been doing in her free time outside of visiting people in the hospital and buying them flowers and such...which is nice! But I think Naruto really be cutting things close on the Bechdel test for example,,which is impressive for a full length series, LMAO Also I've been quietly waiting for Choujis time to shine ever since Cannon first declared his hate for him, lmao - man just out here eating his chips and getting absolutely wrecked for it ✊🏻😔😔 Definitely surprised by Carters take on his fight though, cuz I can see how the guy just standing around and letting him pop his pills could be kind of frustrating, but tbh that's like every fight so...idk why this one seems especially disliked acvgdh

2024-07-19 21:03:02 +0000 UTCI’m not comparing it to anything specifically. It’s pretty much what you said. We’re not in that time anymore, and we aren’t kids anymore. You can still love Naruto of course, I still do, but if you’re a Naruto fan like me where it was one of the earliest animes I watched and I thought it was the greatest thing ever, once you broaden your horizons and in my case, grow up a little bit, you return to it and see that it is extremely flawed, and those flaws really stick out, and that’s ok to admit. I think it’s the tough pill that all of us Naruto fans have to swallow at some point. It’s no longer my favorite, but I’ll always have that love for it

She doesn't have any signature jutsu like everyone else, she doesn't do anything except be a damsel in distress. She's supposedly smart and good at genjutsu but both of these plot points are just never used. Can't say much about Shippuden without spoiling, but suffice to say, I think she's boring there too past the first arc.

Sequel series is when things get turned up a notch and the real drama and character development begin. Being frustrated with the slower-paced original series is not surprising, but if you guys can make it thru to Shippuden it is so worth it! Honestly it’s incredible story telling

For example, something as simple as Gaara apologizing to his siblings after that fight, made me smile. I always go "yay character development!"

And keep it up Carter, your love for plot and attention to detail is clear. It was very astute when you picked up on Naruto’s love for “parallels” for example—very observant in a first watch through. And it is this love for plot and story that leads me to believe that Shippuden will be a different experience for you guys. Keep pushing through, it will be worth it in the end! Naruto’s payoff is TRULY unmatched.

I've mentioned it before, yes, it's true her character has many flaws or "is ass" as many say, but it's also become a bandwagon thing to constantly hate on her, which a lot of sakura haters wont admit or acknowledge at th very least. Sakura isn't even in my top 10, but I'm always rooting for her character developement, instead of anticipating the moment to point out her flaws. I'll say it again, It's getting old.

This is my first rewatch of og Naruto in about 4 years and after watching so many goated movies/shows over the years, it’s shocking how much worse this is than in my memory of it when I watched during covid and I was a bit younger. Shippuden is far from perfect and has some severe flaws, but you will enjoy it much more than this. Og still has such a great spirit to it but yeah the pacing/writing of some of this stuff is diabolical

The current arc’s opening sung by Sambomaster is one of the best in all of Naruto imo. Maybe you’re planning to watch all of them at once, idk but it just doesn’t have the same effect if they’re not watched until after you’ve already surpassed the arc.

Neji completely blocked his 64 (or whatever how many) chakra points. Naruto could muster no Chakra at all. He was done. Then suddenly the Nine Tails chakra pops up and he get a huge power boost. In an exam like that you cant consider that to be his own merit. He was saved by a third party entity that conveniently dwells in his body and comes out whenever he chakra ends... If anything Neji won the battle against Naruto and lost against the Fox. it was a 2x1
