imo haikyuu picks up mid season and just gets better till the end. nothing overstays its welcome, issues get resolved in a realistic pace that is translated well in the show it doesn’t have to drag episodes to show how hard they’re struggling with something. example of this is hinata being a nervous wreck, got introduced and quickly resolved in the same episode. the realistic aspect people talk about when discussing haikyuu is the fact that it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, just because we got over hinata’s nervousness doesn’t mean he’s an ace player all of a sudden. for moments where they talk things out, please consider the time they do it, i promise you it’s either during time outs, between sets or if it’s a practice match where stakes aren’t as high. they just got together so they’re learning about each other. the show is structured from hinata’s POV, someone who has 0 experience when it comes to volleyball. that gives the show the liberty of explaining the sport to newcomers in a way that doesn’t feel like it’s lecturing u about the details of the sports. i finished the whole thing including the manga and it’s always hard going back to the first season which to me feels like a tutorial to the sport and the characters solely for the reason that the plays get more complicated as you go along. you guys have been itching to see someone use a feint (the lil tap over the blockers) that’s a technique the show introduces as you go along so have patience for greatness 🙂‍↕️

Let’s not lie now, Naruto has seemed like a chore a lot of times for them, even though 2 of them are big fans. Brig is one of those fans and still hates on certain moments and dialogue. It also took ages for Carter and Cannon to warm up to Naruto and stop criticising it so much as well. Though I didn’t agree with some of their takes, I still looked forward to their reactions even if there was a lot of harsh comments but at least they were honest. I mean Cannons Sakura hatred is wild and kinda annoying at times since I feel like he gets distracted a lot when it comes to her but I get where he’s coming from and Carter has some very strong opinions a lot of times as well. Jack too even took a bit to get into it since he was rooting for one piece to win instead in the beginning

I don't know if they're reading this but I gotta say this , if anyone hasn't said it yet, Haikyuu is about rivalries and the love of the game. No villains. You'll love all of them. It has some comedy but most of all, it's thrilling! The direction, storytelling makes this one of the most thrilling shows to watch. Probably mid season or end of season 1, you'll all feel something about this show.

That's a hard question! Most of the characters are great. This is cliché but i love hinata and tobio. Hinata because he's the sunshine of the team. Yes, sometimes he's annoying esp. on the first season but the development? Especially when they lose hope (iykyk). I cried on that part. Tobio? Well, he's super talented and he changes for the better. The trust and bond between those two are precious. People says tobio and hinata aren't friends, but throughout the seasons, it showed how much they push each other to be the best version of themselves, and how they noticed a small changes with each other. They are friends and partners. Period. Overall, I love every team but karasuno's bonding are too good. 😭 Okay, I'll stop. Thanks for reading. 🤣

Omg i only just noticed the two mics!! I suggested this a while ago, im happy yall went through with it (id like to think it was because of ✨me✨ lmaoo), but the audio settings need some tweaking.. in the beginning it sounded a bit weird, and also more in the left ear than the right. The left side was way louder, maybe experiment a bit w the distance between the mics and sensitivity? Just a thought. That aside, im so fucking happy you guys are getting into it, laughing at the jokes/humor and getting pumped at the freak quicks and the bit of rivalry between Karasuno and Aoba Johsei. I feel like the hype is slowly starting to cook and it warms my heart seeing all the smiles 🥰🥰 especially considering the massive amount of hate this show got and the "controversy" surrounding it lmao. Hmm i think Haikyuu was so hyped up so now everyone is expecting some major jaw dropping epic mind blowing anime. But for many Haikyuu fans, it’s about how the anime made us feel - it’s not the kind of action-packed and/or plot-heavy kind like AoT, Naruto, OPM or Code Geass (Haikyuu is still action packed and has a good plot tho). For me, Haikyuu is the kind of anime you enjoy slow - it’s like going to a quiet cafe and just chilling with your hot drink sipping slowly kind of vibe. it’s not the theme park roller coaster ride kind of experience you get like watching AoT or JJK or Chainsaw Man. So I’m thinking maybe that’s the disconnect the guys are experiencing thats why it’s not clicking as much as we hoped.

I am in no way comparing them as people. McKay seems like a guy I would love to hang out with, while I hate Rob with a passion. I am just saying the reaction part of it gives me the same vibes. I have seen Rick from Blind Wave say multiple times he does not enjoy Naruto and he even dropped out of the reactions because of that, but he always reacted to the show. Always said I like this, I don't like that, the pacing was bad, that fight was amazing, everything like that. That's what I want. McKay may hate it until the end and I will never have a problem, just if you are a reaction channel, at least react. P.S. I am rewatching Haikyu! with my little brother, who is 10 now and has only watched shounens before. To actually react to the show is the whole point, isn't it? Even if you only state what you don't like about it, that's still giving the audience something instead of just sitting there and saying, "I am not interested." Don't get me wrong, I love McKay, but this is just disappointing to watch. Maybe this show is not for him, but to actually form an opinion about something you have to pay attention to it which he doesn't seem to be doing at all. I felt like he was staring at a wall during half of it 💀 Now, don't come for me by saying I am just being salty because he's not liking a show I love. That is what I mean. Brig said at the start of the reaction he isn't really liking the show, but he made a lot of observations during the episodes. Talked about things he was liking, things he was disliking, an actual reaction. Now to be fair, based on earlier reaction McKay seems to never talk much, that might just be his personality. But since this is now literally their job, I would expect to at least give something during it. Like, I don't like the show because of the genre, I don't care about the characters, it is not my vibe, anything like that. Because like this he just seems like Rob from RTTV who slept through the whole of FMAB and then was like the show was bad, that's all. It is not just 'sure'. There are absolutely good dubs out there, even ones I love more than the sub. FMAB, Code Geass, Naruto, Death Note, My Hero Academia etc. have incredible dubs. Haikyu! just absolutely fails at the dub, to the point characters do not even feel like they are from the same show. A good dub keeps the originality of the sub, just turns it into another language. In Haikyu!, it transforms to a different show completely. In the dub he has a deeper voice, he sounds more confident, which is not what the character is supposed to be. He gets more confident later sure, but he starts off as polite and timid. Daichi also sounds like he is 40 years old and has smoked since he was 5. The Haikyu! sub is an all star cast, filled with the greatest voice actors in the industry. Sorry for the rant. I just love Haikyu! so much and would have actually loved for it to have a great dub, it just makes me so mad how they failed so hard at it.

Well when people give it a chance, they also explain what they do not like. He just says he is not interested. Except Jack, everyone else is not fully on board with it and they explain why. Now I don't want to judge McKay, because I don't know him personally, but it somehow makes no sense to me how you can have Naruto as your GOAT but judge an anime this early. Naruto is extremely slow at the start and it takes like 6 episodes to get to the first arc, even then it is not until the end of that arc that it gets good. I know Haikyu! is slow at the start, but it does that for a reason, because it is first and foremost a characters first show and it does everything to show who they are and develops them. If you hate tropes, then for gods sake, you have watched Demon Slayer, nothing gets more tropey than that. I just don't know. Brig also isn't on board yet but he is at least paying attention and actually reacting to things. This turned into a rant and I still think all 5 guys are great, don't want it to seem like I am hating. I guess I just kinda want everyone in a reaction channel to actually react to what they watch.

To Cannon, about the foot logo in their clothes. It's actually a very clever way to show a brand without actually doing so. That logo is for the "Asics" brand, it's a Japanese sportwear brand, so "foot" in Japanese is "ashi" and the way Japanese people pronounce "Asics" will be like "a-shi-ku-su" so basically their clothes having the "foot+ics" it's just referencing that brand. There are a lot of character moments in this show where some of the characters end up truly falling in love with volleyball and the buildup for those in this show are the best moments in my opinion, not even the wins or losses just the pure character growth. This show definitely how a slow start but once it gets going it doesn't stop

As most people have said, the show sort of starts off slow since they're introducing you to the whole team and their characters and want you to have some sort of attachment to them. Once you let it cook until the tournament portion, I think you guys will love it!

@Mercedeez that's the thing about humans. We're all different. I hate the high pitch voice on male anime characters. They're annoying especially when they get tropy. That will pull me out of it. I just feel like the variety of characters have their own personalities in the dub. I feel the emotion they are trying to portray of the character comes off better. I definitely get where you guys are coming from, some of the "humor" in this show takes some getting used to, and the tone is definitely not as serious as some other shows you've watched. 1 thing is probably cultural differences in humor and attitude, but also, it's volleyball with the boys not life or death like GOT or JJK. Anyway, as it goes on you'll come to appreciate these moments more when you see what the characters become.

I watched the show when it was airing back in 2014 and I was like unnecessarily hating because I never watched a sports anime but I loved the character drama side around episode 6. The first few episodes are all about meeting the characters and knowing about their weaknesses so expect A LOT OF DRAMA. This is why as the episodes and seasons go.. it gets better because you can actually see their character development and how their team evolved. Most non-volleyball players / fans are bored but gets the hype halfway through the season.

Also Brig, about your points on being able to focus and pick what teams/characters you like, this show (another reason i love it) actually does a really good job at showing new characters' and the opposing teams. you meet some and then they keep coming back. As this show picks up, you will constantly meet new characters, a lot of which will reappear later on in the series, even if they are on different teams.

i PROMISE this show gets so hype, especially as the team continues to take shape! I know there's a lot of talking, but they're trying to set everything up and help you get a better idea of each of the characters/concepts that are happening. I also was skeptical at first when I watched haikyuu for the first time last summer, and I couldn't stop watching it once it picked up. this is one of my favorite shows. I promise it gets more exciting, also the comedic bits in this anime are gold.

I liked Brigg's talk about following diff teams and their storylines because believe me, one thing this show does really well is how it makes you FEEL for the opponent teams. Seijoh is the shortened name when you take the first kanji (which is also pronounced as 'Sei') and hird kanji and put them together. Well, after watching your reactions I would say this: the things that you mentioned you want, like character histories, character developments, introductions of the other teams, tension between the teams..., Haikyu has it all! They would happen later in the show! So just wait for it.:) Personally when I watch the show, I'd always skip the first few ones, but the episodes after like season 1 episode 10 have me watched them uncountless times.
