Interesting predictions. When I first saw this episode when it aired I was pretty shocked by Melisandre's true form. I actually liked this season. I know this is where it goes off from the books, but I thought this season was fairly good. Arya's ARC is so interesting. I do feel bad for her when she's blind because she wants to learn from Jaquen, but she can't forget who she is

A big part of Melisandre’s story is that she is a religious fanatic. And as a fanatic she justifies the terrible things she has done because she sees them in service of her god’s plans. There are other religious fanatics in the story as well. The current High Septon, the High Sparrow is another one. Committing atrocities in the name of your beliefs is another idea explored in ASOIAF. At this point in time Melisandre he is having a crisis of faith.

What the show did to Dorne and Sansa’s stories was when I first had serious issues with how the story was being adapted. All I can say is if you have a general enjoyment of this overall story, you should read the books, because they are so much better!

I can't stand Ellaria Sand's character in the latter half of the show. Her killing her lovers brother, who is also her prince, bc Oberyn died in a fight he volunteered for is just insanity. In the books she pushed for peace and doesn't want anymore blood to be shed for a choice Oberyn made himself. Also, Prince Doran doesn't get killed in the books and has plans cooking up to get revenge for Elia Martell. Too bad the showrunners didn't feel like including that. Dorne had so much potential.

He wasn't "extra unbearable", he wasn't even here before people started complaining about his inevitable comments, whole threads existed debating his "negativity" before he showed up to get to reply to every single person and get the attention he loves. I've said a bunch of times that what's much worse than Sean asserting his disapproval at every chance is every single person who has to comment on it, then blow up out of proportion to claim "everyone is being negative and toxic" who has any opinion other than 10/10 W. So many of us easily just skipped over his 3 repetitive comments, while some others just could not allow his presence (or even the prospect of his presence) go unchallenged. What's gotten out of hand is people giving it any attention at all, but ppl learned there's a block feature 😅. It seems like your brain works entirely on logic and fact. And i respect that. Thats a great and common way to view and analyze things. Thorne must have thought the wildlings won’t find out, caus if no one tells the wildlings, and they kill jons good friends, maybe they wouldn’t find out for a long time. We don’t know how long they were running, but let’s say an hour? If it’s only like 25-28 degrees F ish, there can still be snow on the ground but it’s not thaaat cold to get hypothermia. And the morning stannis went to fight the boltens, things were melting so we can assume it was getting a bit warmer out. And Theon and Sansa can’t run that fast that far in an hour, plus Brianne has a horse. It wasn’t like Brianne was in a different town/area than Sansa. They were basically in the same vicinity. And who knows, after Brianne was with Stannis, she probably started noticing that a bunch of Bolten men and dogs were running around so she could have been just following them from a distance

Maddie V: I still don’t agree regarding Thorne, he must have known that the wildlings would be angry given Jon gave them their safety, there is a few thousand of them compared to less then 100 nightswatchmen, he put the whole nights watch in danger. I can understand adrenaline kicking in however I just don’t see the feasibility as I assume they’ve been running for hours at this stage. The battle is over (at least one-two hours long), adrenaline doesn’t last more then an hour I believe so adding in the effects of the icy water makes very little sense in my eyes Also the breaking bad example isn’t a good one as the twins and Mike being there at the same time makes sense. If I remember correctly, Mike was doing work on a big in Walter’s house and walked back to his car, the twins were after Walter so pulled up to his house in a car. It’s certainly not outside the realms of possibility compared to brienne finding Sansa in the vastness of the northern country.

Season 6 is an incredible season and if it were any other show, it would be considered peak fiction. It only suffers a bit in comparison to GRRM's brilliant story telling, and really almost every other show out there suffers the same in comparison. Season 6 deserves it's praise. Most of what you pointed out in terms of inconsistency/timing etc I would agree with, BUT I think there is room for pretty plausible arguments to be made to some of your points. Jon: Leaving him out after killing him made no sense if they were trying to hide the fact that they did it but I don't think it was their plan to hide it from the other Night's Watchmen since they never agreed with Jon's plan of bringing the Wildlings in in the first place and they'd get over it fast. We've seen them do funerals for others in that courtyard so most likely they left him there to let everyone know in the morning and do the funeral. Theon and Sansa: I believe how others pointed out, adrenaline can do a lot in a life or death situation and there is lots of evidence of it in real life. Yeah they'd die of hypothermia if they had to stay out for longer but Brienne comes to the rescue. Even though her coming to the rescue seems too convenient, she was nearby and would most likely hear the hounds and Bolton men chasing someone and assumed it was Sansa. Dorne: Dorne is a shitshow for sure. I don't have much to say to defend that plot. My guess was that Trystane boarded a different ship from Myrcella's and Jaime's and a bit after Ellaria and the Sand Snakes were watching her leave from the dock. What I don't get is how Jaime didn't turn the boat around and go back to take revenge right away if she died so early on in their journey. I don't even know...I don't understand the timing of those events at all. Meereen & Dany: If enough people turned against her, setting ships on fire would be pretty easy I believe, even if they are guarded. I don't think her army outnumbered Meereenese people and a lot of her soldiers died during the mutiny too so it's likely there were holes in their defense. Dothraki circling Dany is not that important to me. I think they did it for show because they're very ostentatious in most of what they do and also because she looks like a pretty strange find to them (not a regular looking woman). When Dany told the Khal about being Drogo's wife, I think it clicked in him that she is telling the truth because 1. she speaks dothraki which is probably not that common and 2. more than likely everyone in the Dothraki knew of the silver haired wife of one of their Khal's since it's a pretty rare occurrence and word would've traveled about their story. Melisandre: Yes, she's in the tub in the other season without her necklace but during that scene she tells Stannis' wife of all the magical potions she uses. I think her glamour is done by a potion, her necklace is just what strengthens her powers or serves another purpose. I don't know if D&D said the necklace was her youth glamour tool but won't be surprised if they did lol. In any case, I think the point of the scene is just her show of faithlessness and weariness so she undoes every magical spell. I don't think this is her ritual every night, I think this was the only night she decided to look like her true self due to the way she was feeling. I'm surprised you didn't criticize Arya's storyline because that was my least favorite xD I think people love season 6 because they got so worn out by all the injustice in the show that at that point they didn't care if things made sense they just wanted to feel a win for once.

The necklace is a glamour. I think she wears it all the time. This wasn't in the books, but it has been hinted at in the books, Glamours usually use gemstones. Sometimes there are instances that feel like maybe another piece of garment. She's like in the 400s. I might be misremembering though. So the scene big reveal was a "hard confirm" for book readers, at least it felt like that for me. The other aspect of the scene is shes so shaken in her faith that she takes off all the bullshit and looks at herself in all her shame and as a "sin" of sorts to R'Hollor.

Hey Sean! I wanna have a healthy discussion about the topics you have grievances with here. I like when there’s differences of opinions, it’s a good thing! I’m not going to be defending them for being good writing lol, and I have a lot of issues with what D&D have written, but I like to try and see why a writer has written something in the way that they did, so here’s my thinking: Thorne killing and then leaving Jon’s body for all to see: I don’t think Thorne was trying to be secretive about it, he wanted everyone to see after it was done so that he could have the meeting with everyone to try and explain why he did it. He’s thinks he did the right thing here. He probably thought when Jon’s dead, the nights watch would all be against the wildlings, so they wouldnt be a problem for him. I think Thorne thought a lot more people hated Jon. Or that Jon’s good friends wouldn’t be able to rise against him after Jon’s dead. Theon and Sansa not getting hypothermia: idk, adrenaline can heat the body sometimes, and we don’t know the specific temperature of the water/air there (even tho we can see breath). People who fall into cold lakes are able to get out and walk for periods of time before hypo. Brienne coming right in the nick of time: this happens a lot in every show. Characters are conveniently in places so it can move the plot along. Take everyone’s fav show for example, Breaking Bad **Spoilers** When the twins pull up to Walt’s house in S3 and Mike just was conveniently there exactly when they were. I’m not gonna go through all your points but I started with those!!

I can totally see where a lot of you are coming from with Sean’s negative comments about some of your favorite moments/ episodes in the show. You see it happen with us with Naruto with cárter and brig, and AOT. The whole point is being able to have these conversations and expression of opinion without it getting toxic. To be fair most of the criticisms aren't really plot holes at all, they're just writing contrivances. It's not really illogical for Brienne to find Sansa it's just unlikely. Every story has plot contrivances, but the later seasons of GOT rely on them more than earlier seasons did to fill in the gaps in writing.

It's not even that I disagree with most of what you said, I definitely wasnt a fan of this episode either and think most of your complaints are valid. It's just this constant repetitive negativity that we see under multiple comments on most of the GoT posts that's getting annoying, like no one really wants this kind of energy in the comment section of a reaction. As Charissa mentioned, there's so many other avenues where this kind of discourse would be welcomed. Like people loved this season when it came out and I know i personally really enjoyed it my first watch through and am happy I wasn't exposed to a bunch of online discourse about how flawed the writing is, and for a lot of us a big part of enjoying reactions is to see other people get that experience too, and the constant negativity from yourself and others about how terrible it is potentially takes away from that.

Difference between other shows and got is that GOT WAS LEGITIMATELY THE GOAT. It had objectively some of the best writing and dialogue to ever be put on screen so it’s held to a higher standard than other shows. And pointing out GLARING AND MASSIVE FLAWS in the later seasons isn’t nitpicking. Go ahead try and nitpick flaws from the first 4 seasons. You cannot, because they are basically flawless. This episode is truly one of the worst in the show from a logic and writing perspective. I will break down each issue below. I’m bound to get hate from it from the season 6 lovers but I don’t care. Jon snow: it makes absolutely zero sense that alliser Thorne and the other mutineers would leave Jon’s body there when they know he would be found. The way it looks from thornes perspective is he wants it to be a private murder where the murderer/s are not obvious and therefore they might get away with it. The issue is that he literally then admits to the murder alongside the others so what was the point of that. Not to mention Thorne is mad that Davos and the others took Jon’s body and keeping it safe, if he’s so mad about it why didn’t he burn Jon’s body and just be done with it, I’m ignoring the white walker thing because obviously there are none around but still it’s a topic that shouldn’t be ignored. Thorne and the others obviously have a death wish because they know the wildlings will be mad and come looking for revenge. The whole Jon snow death plot line makes no sense at all Theon and Sansa: first of all I don’t believe that they could have survived the fall from winter fell but others in this Patreon disagree so I’ll let it slide, however they should have taken some fall damage and be struggling to escape on foot with no pain. Then we have them literally walk through icy water up to their chest height. There is no way they could run through snowy fields and then get in water that cold without experiencing hypothermia. They then are able to continue running after all that until they find a safe spot. Next I’ll move onto the timing issue with Brienne and pod saving them. This makes zero sense timing wise as Sansa and Theon escaped at the start of the battle while brienne killed stannis at the end of the battle. We should assume that despite the overwhelming victory the battle lasted about an hour or longer. It is absolutely illogical for brienne to save Sansa and Theon who have been running for hours chased by soldiers and hounds who likely left soon after they escaped all for brienne and podrick to somehow show up at the perfect time to save them. How could brienne even know that Sansa escaped as she left to kill stannis at the same time, and where to find her in the vastness of the northern country in snow. Dorne: this entire plot line this episode is the most egregious as it both provides ridiculous plot armour and inconsistency all over the place. In season 5 Doran Martell had soldiers who obeyed his every order and were quick to take ellaria and the sand snakes hostage after they attempted to kill Myrcella. Now all of a sudden when Doran finds out about myrcella she kills him and the sand snake girl kills his best soldier with no problem, then ellaria brings up that none of his soldiers respect him or care about him when that is a direct inconsistency from season 5 where they took her in. Not to mention how in the world could ellaria have learned this about his soldiers, there was zero setup at all for this. Jaime and Trystane: so remember how all 3 sand snakes were on the pier when Jaime left in the season 5 finale???? Well apparently 2 of them have learned how to teleport because now they are on the boat with trystane on his way back to dorne. This is unquestionably bad writing because David and Dan kinda forgot that they weren’t going with them from literally one episode ago. The plot armour issue is that if they were on the boat all along then why the hell didn’t they kill Jaime and bronn as well? Jaime is now a useless soldier and one good sneak attack on both of them would have made a massive dent on the lannisters, it makes no sense why they would have not even tried to do this given they were on the same boat, and the shipmen were most likely all dornishmen as Jaime and bronn travelled to dorne alone. God this is fucking painful writing. Jaime’s plot armour is through the roof at this stage and it’s never been more obvious. If the dornish soldiers don’t care about Doran or his rule why didn’t they just kill Jaime and bronn back in season 5 when they captured everyone in the water gardens? Exactly it makes no sense Tyrion and Varys: cock jokes popping up more and more nowadays. So given all the buildup of Dany acquiring both ships in season 2 and unsullied and second son soldiers in season 3, she would have hundreds of ships and tens of thousands of soldiers…. How in the hell did the sons of the harpy which are simply street thugs burn down dany’s entire fleet/majority of her fleet without any single soldier noticing this out of the thousands that she has on guard. Surely the defense of her ships which are her transportation to Westeros are of the highest priority but somehow not a single soldier guards these ships. The writing surrounding this is just painful as it makes no logistical sense in the slightest. Dany: the Dothraki show that they don’t know who she is, she tells them she is the khalessi of the great grass sea alongside her other titles but the khal says she is nobody. Then all of a sudden changes his mind when she tells him she used to be khal drogos wife. Why should he believe her. Also if they don’t know her why did they make such a big fuss of capturing her in the season 5 finale. Thousands of horses circling around a woman they don’t know doesn’t make sense. Melisandre: there is a plot hole in this scene, we have seen at least one scene when she was in the bath in season 3 or 4 talking to stannis wife that she wasn’t wearing her necklace and she was still in her young form, but now all of a sudden she takes off the necklace and becomes her true form. This just shows that David and Dan forgot their own show. Wow there is a lot wrong with this episode. I genuinely hope no one tries to defend the egregious mistakes that this episode had. 3/10 episode overall. Only good scenes were Theon keeping Sansa safe (despite writing errors) and the Jaime and Cersei scene. Theon continues to be the most interesting character in the show

The Dorne arc was butchered. In the book they show you how upset the common people in Dorne are at Oberyn’s death. However the Prince doesn’t get murdered and has a master plan to take down the Lannisters which was pretty cool and I hate that they cut it.

solid ep for the first of the season.. theon breaks my heart.. i love the stuff with him and sansa so much. also brienne and sansa moment is class. love davos defending jon & linking up with the good nights watchmen. daenerys circling back to her beginnings with the dothraki is the most interesting i think her storyline has been for a minute. it is hard to feel for cersei but tough stuff there.. and man lena heady gives a good performance. i think defeated melisandre grappling with her faith and learning she is ancient is compelling. dorne forever sucks and i want to punch the high sparrow in the face (the filth militant slip was so real) lol but overall love the episode. cant wait for the rest of this season. the predictions 😂

The character writing continues to take a nosedive but everything else including the cinematography and action choreography reaches new levels of peak never before seen on television. This is one of the times when the show simplified a storyline to its complete and total detriment. In the book there are many factors fbut what finally pushes them to kill Jon is his plan to betray his oath and lead an army south to save Arya. It’s so much more complex and their betrayal much more understandable. On the show, they just look dumb for killing him over the wildlings
