AoT had 4 seasons and movies to flesh out a ton more plot twists, mystery, characters, backstory and still ended up with a divisive ending and love/hate relationship for the MC. Code Geass had 2 seasons and finished with a universally praised ending and MC, the ending is what most people remember and Code Geass does it well despite weird cat episodes. Comparing both, AoT overall has everything you can confidently recommend to a new anime watcher though since Mecha is just too weird for a starter.

This has been my goat for so many years. AoT has challenged that status, for sure, but every time I rewatch this I love it so much. Can't wait to see your reactions to the season finale and then onto the even better second season.

FMAB is the safest option between CG and Death note, mecha and politics will brush off many people and lack of shounen action and world building may bore people from Death note. Vinland became more of a personal story in season 2 and relatable for older viewers but the grandeur story and outcome of CG just impacts all anime viewers even if its not a personal impactful experience, its not really replicated now in Anime besides a certain popular anime.

Mecha genre is a really big dividing line for anime viewers especially with JJK/Chainsaw Man/Demon slayer audience shaping the current trends. I always enjoy rewatching this show with others for years now.

Yea I think Vinland and code geass are amongst the best. Some of my absolute favs and so different. I think fmab is one of the best to but I just didn’t connect with it as much.

Agreed, Code Geass is so awesome and thrilling and emotional but Vinland is definitely more of a polished masterpiece and it's themes and messaging are just so impactful to me. Code Geass does get messy and convoluted at times, whereas Vinland is a perfectly delivered story. Both are 10/10s to me though haha.

I agree this show is much better than FMAB and Death Note. Vinland is definitely the smarter and much more polished show, whereas Code Geass can get pretty messy, and personally Vinland's message is just so powerful to me, but it's close between the two because Code Geass wins in terms of pure entertainment and emotional catharsis. There are a few other animes in different genres y'all probably would never watch that I like just as much though. (Madoka Magica, A Place Further Than The Universe, and Dangers In My Heart)

For me it goes Code Geass = FMAB and then death note. But only s1 and its s2 is like 2 tiers lower than the first lol but Code Geass and FMAB are neck and neck, essentially equals. Both hold that special place in my heart. Death note has too big a gap between its seasons quality for me to put it higher.

Both are definitely up there in my favorites. Easy 10/10, but they hit different emotions and themes. Lelouch catered more to my younger self and motivations, while Thorfin just hits so close to my heart at 30 lol makes me cry every time I watch it now.

I don’t mean this as a slight to you but I also feel that generally FMAB fans are hella delusional. Review bombing shows, etc. AoT isn’t in my top 5 favorite animes but I can recognize that it’s probably the best anime ever made. FMAB fans delude themselves into thinking FMAB is the best anime ever made and it’s not even the best anime made in the past 2 years 💀. It’s straight up nostalgic bait. I find that all the people who really love FMAB watched it as their first anime! I’m a new anime fan and I recently both watched code geass and FMAB. It upsets me a bit that a lot of people don't get Suzaku's character. You can see a lot of people hating on the guy saying "Why can't he see that his methods don't work!" Suzaku is a conflicted individual and other characters like Lloyd even comment on how his ideals contradict with his place as a soldier. He's an illogical person, but there's a reason behind that and that's what makes him feel very human to me.

I believe Suzaku repressed the memory of killing his father due to trauma and guilt. He didn’t forget it, he lives with that guilt daily, which drives him to place himself in dangerous situations in hopes of dying a heroic death with self-serving motives. As Mao previously pointed out, “It’s your own soul that you wish to save. You want to sacrifice your life, don’t you? That’s why you keep risking yourself!” This behavior could be seen as a form of self-punishment or an attempt to atone for his sins, seeking death as a means to free himself from his internal torment. When C.C. reawakens these repressed memories, Suzaku relives the worst moment of his life, intensifying his guilt, trauma, and his want to be punished. As he says in this last episode, "I killed my father. Even so, I was never punished. I just lived on like nothing happened." Suzaku has sort of a "self-sacrificial heroism complex". Where he wants redemption/atonement by dying, but only if his death is seen as heroic or honorable. However, when Lelouch commands him to "live" using his Geass, he forces Suzaku to continue living despite his internal desire to die. Thus, trapping him inside a mental prison, where Suzaku’s greatest wish, redemption through sacrifice, is unattainable because he is forced to continue living. Creating a very tragic irony.

No matter what you think of this show, the final episode and the few leading up to it in S2 will be immortalized for the rest of your life as its done for many anime fans even if you dont remember anything else. Its just a great ending that isnt really done these days in Anime especially one that involves mechs/paranormal/school/politics etc. Cooking. The Fate series would be an enjoyable watch in the future, made by UFOTABLE. Brigggg must have learned from deathnote, his takes are making me nervous.

Love this show. The ending is goated . Believe it! Can’t wait for the end of the year rankings. AOT is above all imo still. It will be difficult to outrank it as far as storytelling. The only thing I wonder is if Cannon puts this above ATLAB. Carter I think will keep his tied 2 and GOT will be high or third in his list above or equal to Vinland.
