Whenever there's a really strong team and they play each other at such high speeds, sometimes you can miss the details that are in the scene (like when a spike bounces off the opponent's hand and then lands out, which is a point for our team). I can relate so hard to being on the fence about celebrating immediately or keeping quiet until they announce whose point it was HAHAHA! Also, don't worry guys. Guardian Deity, or Nishinoya, has many moments that he shines in. He mentioned this before: in a tough rally or game, what the crowd goes crazy for isn't a super spike, but a super receive. P.S. Getting chills this early on in the show is such a good sign. Personally, I first experienced that during episode 9, when Asahi spiked past a three man block after working through his trauma of getting blocked continuously in a match. The soundtracks in Haikyuu contribute so much to the feels you get. It's impeccable.

Carter, I wish you'd watch some of Hiroshi Kamiya's (Levi's VA) more comedic roles and there are a lot mind you. The man is so versatile and a comedy genius, and can speak impressively super fast. Also in case you didn't notice, the Shiratorizawa's ace Ushijima Wakatoshi is often referred to as 'Ushiwaka' for obvious reasons (first 2 syllables of his surname and last name). Weirdly enough it's a nickname that is used by everyone without even knowing him personally as it was used in this episode for instance. i mean you've seen him , he looks like the type of person who uses full sentences and proper grammar in all his texts and tweets and should always be addressed to using his family name and rank and yet he's the one who gets a cute nickname.

sorry I'll try to explain, usually katakana is used to spell words for emphasis, its a style in titling manga sometimes. I think theyre trying to emphasized this volleyball is the manga version/associate this katakana spelling to this manga/art vs actual volleyball or 排球 . it is also spelled with prolonged u in katakana ハイキュー to somehow adapt how its done in hiragana where it has uu ( or kyuu) はいきゅう.

ukai is not hired by the school. for a high school volleyball club, the official coach has to be a teacher or employee of the school. thats why technically, Takeda-sensei is the official coach. Meaning, Ukai is coaching them voluntarily and not getting paid for it. insane if you ask me. especially considering he works at the store and the farm too

When a show grounds itself in reality, even being late to a match can seem relatively "dramatic" because of the stakes. A sudden slip or colliding with a teammate can seem "insane" in a match, its not something they would've watched since its just balls being tossed around but about characters and their motivations and interactions and journey. This can be applied like any other show with teen drama minus the deaths and world destruction but when you zoom back out its still just a sports anime. They could animate a show about swimming or even ants building the best colony for their queen and a rainstorm flooding can seem super dramatic and when an ant fights another colony for some twigs and leaves it can seem peak too, its all relative.

They don't have a long summer vacation but many breaks/ holidays. - There are 2 main tournaments during a school year: Inter-High tournament (usually happens in the Summer, this is where we are now) and Spring tournament. They are different from each other and they have their own nationals!! I have to share some things since you've finished cour 1 of season 1!! First, you have no idea how much these 2 uploads give me joy each week, full on laughing out loud and being hyped with yall. I'm not sure if anyone else has answered this yet but the show is called Haikyuu because that's the Japanese word for volleyball "排球". That word isn't really used anymore though as it's more commonly called Barēbōru "バレーボール" due to the western word becoming adopted as the norm. So just volleyball but using Japanese phonetics.

Highlights of EP 13 for me, 1) when Hinata gets hits in the face, no one bats an eyelid anymore 😂 Tanaka totally not caring, shouts to Noya : Cover! Cover! 2) Tanaka to Yamamoto: When you say Hi and she ignores you.. It's still good. Oh these desperate teenage boys 🤣 4) Introvert Kenma freaked out by Kageyama's intense competitive aura and scurried away from him. 5) Hinata finding a fellow kid-like 15 year old Inuoka. "Them jumping about" scene symbolizes their still child-like selves. Kuro commented on that too. 6) Seeing, Asahi scaring off the smaller 1st Year Nekoma, Yuki (the black straight hair) Daichi: Goatee over there is scaring that first year half to death.
