2024-09-11 05:23:06 +0000 UTCI know I'm SOOOO late, but I was sick and someone was actually wanting for me to say something this ep ab Oikawa specifically. I can't remember their name rn lol. So here it goes: The second I started this show I immediately liked 2 setters (Suga and Tobio) then I met Oikawa, and I was literally mesmerized by his presence, no cap. Not only do I believe that if I was a Volleyball player I'd like to be a setter, but I find a lot of myself, personality wise, in a couple setters in the show (Oikawa and Kenma mainly) making it easier to connect with them. I also find the position so much more meaningful in Spanish "armador" it's exactly what It's shown in this very episode, like an orchestra's director, everything goes through them, they make every single player's ability come together for the symphony, and seeing Kenma in previous eps use that pretty big brain of his and Oikawa's mastermind in this one is what made me fall in love with Setters. I love them profoundly. I feel inspired by them, and I understand myself better through them.

Tanaka would be proud of that attitude HAHAHA Oh and, just to clarify, the team that was shown on television that won 25 to 6 is actually in the same prefecture as Karasuno. The school's name is Shiratorizawa, where Ushijima Wakatoshi, one of the top 3 spikers in the whole high school volleyball scene, plays. They're basically the reigning champions in the Miyagi prefecture, and our boys will have to beat them if they ever want to go to Nationals because only one school from Miyagi will get to represent the prefecture at Nationals! Also, to answer Jack's question about Nekoma: Nekoma is situated in the Tokyo region, so they aren't in the same prefecture as Karasuno. Their teams were considered rivals because of the two coaches (Grandpa Coach Ukai and Coach Nekomata) who knew each other and made their teams play practice matches against each other. They've never played an official match against each other before, because they were both knocked out of Nationals in the year that the Little Giant was still playing at Karasuno. They lost contact with each other after the old Coach Ukai retired due to health issues, and have only now rekindled that rivalry after Takeda Sensei(Karasuno's volleyball club advisor) persistently asked for a practice match (Golden Week, episodes 10-12). Now, if they want to play a official match against each other, Karasuno has to represent Miyagi prefecture at Nationals by beating all the other schools in the region, and Nekoma has to secure a spot at Nationals as well. Then, they have to win every match at Nationals before they meet as opponents, regardless of which round they meet in. I hope this helps HAHA

His powerful setter dump at the start of the match was to rattle Kageyama. Then, Kageyama knows that he knows their signs to spike. He knew that Kageyama would find out sooner or later but for Kageyama to notice it this early in the game became Oikawa's 2nd mental attack towards Kageyama. It added pressure to Kageyama early in that match. .. just my humble take ..

It was something the fandom assumed because of the mismatched kneepads and for some reason, everyone thought it was canon. I don't know if it is explicitly stated why he wears mismatched kneepads but I am pretty sure he never had a knee injury.

If we were talking about physique, well that's different and Oikawa may even have Kageyama beat at that. My point is this is all just Oikawa's distorted point of view. Furudate would never write an arc where it is implied that the player with best track record that we know of so far, Ushiwaka, got to the top because he lucked out at birth. Or that Kageyama who eats, sleeps and breathes volleyball, whom we've seen practice along with everyone else on the team until late into the evening, is somehow a slacker compared to hardworking Oikawa. If anything out of the two, Oikawa is the one who has a life outside of volleyball. Kageyama has staring contests with vending machines outside of volleyball. Anyone who loves volleyball as much as these guys would pour their all into it and the mangaka was never remiss to show it. I mean I love Blue Lock, but Furudate did not write Kageyama as someone like Nagi. In my opinion, the dynamic that Oikawa has with both Kageyama and Ushiwaka is to highlight his weaknesses and shortcomings. Whereas Hinata revels in the prospect of taking up stronger opponents, Oikawa fixates on all the ways they are or potentially will be better than him. He becomes obsessive and forgets to actually enjoy the game. Even if he wins, he'll never be satisfied because there will always be someone better than him. His inability to cultivate healthy rivalries and constructive competitive drive is what's holding him back from not only being one of the best in the prefecture, but the country. He lets his insecurities fester as he continues to regard everyone as a threat and not as challenges to overcome but mostly learn from and evolve as a player. Besides, Kageyama and Ushiwaka are total Oikawa fanboys who couldn't care less who is considered 'genius' or not as long as they get to play good volleyball.

For Aoba Josai #1 to #4 all are 3rd years (almost always the #1 is the captain of the team) The hand signals that they were practicing before were Suga's sign, Jack, he gave that paper to Hinata. Also, the woman in the news was talking only about Miyagi, Shiratorizawa is in the same prefecture, just in a different group, the boys are in group A, Shiratorizawa is in group I, remember there were like 60 schools in the region lol. I love Oikawa's play style, I guess that's why him and Kenma are one of my faves characters and players, along with the Salty boy, the 3 of them have a similar play style now that I think about it 🤔 I just KNOW Tanaka will ended up being one of your faves, at least to one of you will be the goat lol Can't wait for Thursday!!

2024-09-03 22:27:02 +0000 UTCi totally get that, especially how it’s perceived by the audience. but i think from oikawa’s point of view, the amount of work he put into practice compared to kageyama and having kageyama still come on top made oikawa feel a sense of unfairness. using terms like “ofc he’ll surpass me he’s a prodigy he’s talented he was born to play volleyball” are things he says to himself as a way of self soothing. blaming your shortcomings on someone’s innate talent is such a real sentiment to have. i think the whole dynamic between oikawa and kageyama explored the idea of comparisons and what it means to be naturally gifted (that it’s not real and everyone has to put in some sort of effort to get better in different areas) i love that it was the first concept the show tackles in sports with oikawa being our first antagonists.

Just him being included among villains like Pain, Madara, Aizen, Johan, Dio etc. was funny to begin with, but him winning was hilarious. He is a great antagonist, my favourite character in Haikyu, but he is no way a villain. Also, just to clarify, no spoilers. Shiratorizawa, the team with the great ace, is in the same prefecture(region) as Karasuno, just on the other block. They are the reigning champs of the region, not nationals. Their region is Miyagi. Nekoma, the red cat team, is in the Tokyo region, so the only way for them to play each other is at nationals.

Firstly, when Haikyuu just came out I think there were actually a lot of people really disliking Oikawa. Hell I remember hearing serious discussions how he is a menace or plainly annoying character, which I don't agree with at all on the rewatch (though I gotta admit I didn't like hime back when I first watched the series). He was the Mahito of the series (btw I hope yall realize that I am exaggerating here a lot so you get the point) But generally they were different times. I don't think that anybody who finishes the series now could genuinely dislike/hate him. Secondly, you know those "top anime villains" ranks? Including the ones made by fans on youtube and some actual anime websites or articles. So usually a lot of anime villains end up there, and since Haikyuu is quite popular and a shonen, people would put Haikyuu in those ranks too and it would always be Oikawa. Just Oikawa, a high school volleyball player among Orochimarus, Sukunas and Kiras. I think it also shows how popular Haikyuu is, because no other slice of life anime 'antagonists' would end up there, even as a joke. Haikyuu is extremely popular shonen, so it's just a funny yet logical thing that it's one 'most hated' character would end up in ranks with other popular shonen villains. Thirdly, somewhere along the lines it actually became a huge meme. And now you can find TONS of edits in each anime fandom about how Oikawa would solo their villain. In twitter votes last year, he surpassed Sukuna and became the number one villain. I especially love edits involving Sukuna getting literally obliterated by Oikawa's serve. I also blame the popularity of the meme on Haikyuu fandom, because it LOVES to dramatise certain situations and mess with other people, especially first time veiwers

And he's entertaining on top of that. Personally, it's the 'he had to work for it' mentality that he surrounds himself with and somehow everyone buys into that rubs me the wrong way while he prances around throwing words like 'genius' and 'prodigy' in a rather insulting tone and thus dismissing all the work and effort someone else put into their game. I mean we already lost Jack to the Oikawa effect. But alas, if Haikyuu was a video game Oikawa would be one of the best bosses for sure and thanks to him I finally understand why some people don't like being complimented on their 'talent'.
