they do them pretty consistently. It's just that they record a batch and cut it up to make multiple drops and only really pause to do closing thoughts at the end of the batch. Which could turn into like 3-4 drops with no ending discussion. Especially with a big binge like this

Yeah, early on the flashbacks in these older animes weren't bad especially when they still had plenty of source material to work with. It started getting really bad when you waited a week for a new episode and it would just end up as half of the last episode as a recap before you go into any new stuff.

Carter’s points about luffy is pretty spot on (idiot, ridiculous power, funny). He does not ask questions first but rather punch first, forget to ask the question, wouldn’t even understand the answer anyway. And even though there are many many layers of one piece most emphasis is on humor, fun and “laugh”. Oda first and foremost wants to make people laugh. If someone comes to me and ask “I watched few episodes of OP, should I commit to rest?”, my first or second question would be “did it make you laugh?”. When Oda is asked why Luffy’s power is rubber and looks like twink compared to traditional strong protagonists, he says “Ahaha, that is true. It must seem like a mystery when you consider all the other strong and cool abilities. The answer is simple. I have picked the most ridiculous ability. If the protagonist were the typical strong guy, I doubt I could continue on with this for long. No matter how serious the story gets, Luffy is there to stretch and inflate. He always give me a chance to fool around. That's the kind of manga I wanted to write.”

MONKEY! finished watching and bro i was cheeeeeesing hearing your thoughts about this binge 🥹 🥹 🥹 i don't know why mckay and brig get scrutinized being naruto fans when they always give credit where credit is due and have been open minded about this. I feel like we all were naruto fans first then switched to one piece after actually sitting down and watching it so cut them some slack and let's stop the comparsion games between the two shows. another thing i feel like pointing out about the flashbacks in both naruto and one piece, it's not who directed the shows, but rather the time these shows got animated in. back in the day these shows that came out weekly (DBZ, naruto, one piece etc) were structured like a weekly manga they are scheduled in a timeslot on cable tv. which means the anime would catch up to the manga. some shows resorted to fillers and even wrote their own plotline thus ruining the whole series (AHEM original FMA and bleach) so you see pacing issues where it's the same frame for a whole minute or the same flashback being overplayed for the hundredth time. thankfully they seem to be getting better at handling the pacing issues recently where if you don't read the manga you can't really tell, and i can't wait for you guys to get where we are!!

Mini Fun Fact Zone! - Don't quote me on this entirely cuz its been a long time, but I believe I recall reading once that Oda said he actually based Luffy's incompetence as a chore boy on him struggling at his own first job, lmao - A sous-chef (Sanji) is the second in command, someone who ranks just under the head chef (Zeff)! Typically involves overseeing the kitchen staff and day to day operations and such - This doesn't really pertain to One Piece but it came to mind since someone mentioned at one point about the underlings not knowing how to swim lol, but actually a lot of Sailors and all didn't know how to swim back in the day! Some considered it a better fate to just drown then starve/drift at sea Also cant waittt for the backstories and upcoming arc! And in terms of the idea of "advancing the plot" or things tying in and such, I wouldn't really think of it that way too much. Imo One Piece is very much about letting the plot reveal itself naturally, and while its well known for tying things and people in all the time, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone you meet is always going to be of the utmost importance. Sometimes you get to know people just because that's what you do when you go out to see the world, and in the best way possible, sometimes it really is just about the friends we made along the way agsdvsv And that 9ep a week potential? It’s literally weird to say that you need to watch xx eps to gets good. It could be watch xx ep to get to peaks. Competition in the manga industry is fierce in Japan. A series published by JUMP needs to be popular and fresh, otherwise JUMP will ask the mangaka to finish the series shortly or just cut the manga. One Piece has been popular for 27 years and is even more trending nowadays, it’s definitely good. It has lows and plot holes. But anyone who is a sucker for dreams, friendship, mystery, adventures will love one piece for sure. And i don’t know if you have noticed, comments that glaze One Piece are mostly on its world building, story, characters, not many on fights compared to other series. That’s what makes it outstanding. “Monkey”

It’s crazy how early op cooks. The mihawk stuff is def iconic and after baratie we genuinely go into some elite (dare I say peak) content. Glad you guys enjoy One Piece. Luffy makes me laugh and stressed at the same time. Zoro is my favorite and I got most of his figures but Luffy will always be the best character and has always won the no.1 in polls regarding to OP.

Once you get to like episode 200 you'll start to notice an animation change which over time it gets more up to current standard. Keep in mind these first episodes came out in 1999. The first Naruto episode came out in like 2005, so you are going to see some difference in animation quality. Naruto has about 293 filler episodes out of 720. While One Piece has about 94 filler episodes out of 1100+ currently.

Constant flashbacks feel insulting to my intelligence lol. Naruto would always have flashbacks to last weeks episode.... I DIDN'T FORGET THE EPISODE FROM 7 DAYS AGO! hopefully the one piece remake will make naruto consider doing a remaster.

The biggest problems I had and friends have said they have with one piece are length, character designs, and inconsistency with its "world rules". Lack of character consequences for the vast majority of the story. I didnt enjoy any of the first arcs in teh manga until arlong park. Even after that every arc is either dogwater or great. rollercoaster of quality.

I love that you guys enjoyed One Piece. It's such a magical world and is in my top 3 manga with Vinland and Berserk. There's still so much to see and so many characters to meet. Have fun with it and embrace the goofiness. Not only can those moments become really funny but they also make the serious scenes hit so hard!

File corruption refers to when, for any number of reasons, a file is no longer readable by the computer. It can happen from so many things, like simple recording software error, to a read/write error, to even a cosmic ray hitting perfectly and flipping a bit.
