The fault was of the workers for pushing the reactor too far, yet they did so with the knoweledge and understanding that an "emergency" solution was available. The greater fault and responsibility lies not with the working civilians who were simply doing their job and followed protocol, believing what their government had authorized, but with the manufactors and government leadership who knew an emergency could overspill into a nuclear global disaster yet kept that information secret and built them anyway.

Luka Monsaraz

suttle but great aot reference

Luka Monsaraz

I love how I am watching things I probably never would have just bcs yall are watching it. I think alone I would not have appreciated this series as much as I do with watching you watching it. Its like watching it with friends and the constant commentary is really making me engage and think about what this series really is putting out for the world to see.

Saphira

“You can see, the roof is in three levels. We’ve named them: Maria, Rose, Sina” 😂

Fatipapi

Brig w the consistent meme references 😂 TO THIS DAY!! 😠

Fatipapi

This is so depressing 😢

Ale

Yeah, I figured the same.

TheSauceGuy

Anyone who followed safety precautions lived quite a long life, just like my grandfather. He died of a heart attack and never suffered from radiation-related illnesses throughout his life. Yes, radiation is deadly, but the show does a good job of making the atmosphere as dramatic as possible.

Ksenia Rekun

I believe there were 3 more reactors. Blowing up the building would be much more dangerous. I don’t know anything about these, maybe they are inactive ones.

Natsu1401

Are you guys going to react to the Arcane S2 trailer it came out today

LovetheDove

Oh, I thought they were doing a vote again considering the votes before Shogun was added.

TheSauceGuy

they said dark after chernobyl so shouldnt be a poll

Jacob Goldsmith

Also, the U.S was not only the archenemy of the URSS, basically, but because it's so far away from europe they would've been the global power less affected by the whole incident, so they had no huge incentive to help out at all.

Gaboxxy

Apparently Brig lived in Argentina, so it's possible he got robbed with a gun there.

Gaboxxy

You can tell me if I'm being unsensitive, but did your grandfather pass because of any condition that could be attributed to radiation? Or did he get lucky?

Gaboxxy

It's not a documentary, it's still a drama series.

Spencer

If we only measure quality, not quantity, HBO is by far the best network when it comes to T.V series.

Gaboxxy

Dark is fantastic! 🤗

A_Daddy Daichi

oops, yeah im getting old. CoD 4!

Niffol

About Legasov, the previous chapter's dialogue with Ulana Khomyuk makes much more sense with chapter 4, when he tells him to seek out and make whoever has to fall pay for his guilt. Brutal.

Jose Araya

yeah, Brig says it towards the end of Carter's story about nuclear attack

Ayaulym🇰🇿

Since everyone is being annoying about Dark in the comments, I’ll be the annoying one to recommend The Wire. Watch that instead lol

Joe Mama

That is some darwinism shit right there wow

slavicandsapphic

Can we not argue about Dark in the Chernobyl video comments lol? Wait until the polls are up for that chaos.

TheSauceGuy

What about a gun to his head lol? Was that talked about in this video?

TheSauceGuy

Brig's comment on wanting to be right where a nuke was dropped if he was in the area reminded me of another "fun" fact. When a submarine implodes from hull failure, its crew are killed before their nervous systems can even register anything. Imagine this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zz95_VvTxZM), but significantly faster and more extreme lol.

TheSauceGuy

you guy's should follow this up this series's with Fallout going on a nuclear theme

Rumaki21

As someone who finished Dark it’s a once in a lifetime show and is right up there with breaking bad as the greatest show of all time 🥳

Euphemia Isobel

Wow, I've never heard about that false 2018 missile threat lol. Maybe I heard about it briefly, but if so, I forgot lol. The Wikipedia page for the false alert is a pretty interesting read.

TheSauceGuy

L

Griff

Carter, two days from now its gonna be 3 weeks since the last Naruto drop. Your buns deserve the Katon Gōkakyū no Jutsu you bum! 😤

Mysterious Figure

In real life, Joker apparently was stuck on debris and during that time, its batteries depleted and its electronics failed due to the radiation exposure. Joker didn't become inoperable right away though. It seems that all of the robots succumbed to the radiation, so it was just a matter of how long they lasted. There were also around 60 of them used lol.

TheSauceGuy

Brig, in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games (set in a sci-fi version of Chernobyl Exclusion Zone) there are packs of wild dogs that hunt people to avoid starvation. I've died to them too many times to need to imagine that lol.

TheSauceGuy

nothing in Dark is filler first off and if you havent even finished the show you cannot speak to what a masterpiece it is. even standing alone the first season is amazing then the second is also amazing and it ends off perfectly so idk what show u watched but def wasnt dark

Jacob Goldsmith

Actually, now that you ask, HBO has quite a few insanely good (but really pretty dark) one season mini series… The Outsider, THE NIGHT OF 💀, Sharp Objects, Mare of Easttown (just read season 2 is in early talks), WATCHMEN?! Damn I didn’t realize how many good ones there were until I thought back… all in the 90%+ on rotten tomatoes.

JAY

I'd assume that bringing the building down via explosives could spread radioactive particles further out and risk a larger explosion in some form, but I'm unsure.

TheSauceGuy

Mckay, you're right in that it shouldn't matter where it's from. Unfortunately, pride and desire for positive worldwide perception motivated a lot of bad decisions during the Cold War.

TheSauceGuy

AYYYY, it's Leo from A Way Out; I'd recognize that nose anywhere.

TheSauceGuy

I'm surprised none of them noticed the soldier at the beginning of the episode is the same actor for Pyp from GoT, or at least none of them mentioned it.

TheSauceGuy

REACT TO THE ARCANE S2 TRAILER PLEASE!

Anton Sakshaug

so you didn't even finish the show and you've formed an opinion on it? cool if it's not your thing, but seeing as you haven't even watched the whole thing I think they should take your comments with a grain of salt. Dark is a fucking masterpiece.

Ali S.

Not sure due to how good it is or because you need to stop the depression. Maybe a little of both haha, but for me at least the value is exactly that, the show makes you feel what happened until the point of making you uncomfortable. "What is the cost of lies".

JulioLG

Also it has Mr Darcy 😏

Mia Malvik

I can finally watch this now LFG

𝓓𝓪𝓷𝓪

Reading this before watching the video has me like 🫨

Mia Malvik

okay finally i can tell the story. my grandfather was one of the men who threw down the graphite. he died 2 years ago at the age of 86. but the story about the guy who worked on that roof with him. that guy dicided to take a little piece of graphite as a souvenir with him and put it in his pocket. he got his leg amputated later

Ksenia Rekun

bruh what are you even talking about? there is literally no first segment in the show or anything like that an. I think you misunderstood something and are blaming the show for it.

Shikhar Srivastava

BRIG HAD A GUN TO HIS HEAD?? CARTER WENT THROUGH A FAKE NUCLEAR ATTACK?? What is your lives guys. I feel bad but it's also so hilarious. Someone needs to create Studio Gek Iceberg ASAP. And include all the random facts we hear from the boys. At the bottom of the iceberg should be this kindergarten (?) beef that McKay and Carter had.

Ayaulym🇰🇿

Guys, I am begging you pls watch Succession. It also an HBO show that won many Emmy's. I would describe it as a weird mix of GOT and The Office. It has just the PERFECT amount of drama, humour and dialogs there are superior to everything I've seen before. The succession dialogs are just really UNIQUE. I will bet my kidney that yall wil ADORE this show. It also has all those mind games that you love so much.

Ayaulym🇰🇿

I am praying for Geks to watch Succession. It is like the perfect mix of Game of Thrones and Ofiice. It is a def S tier show

Ayaulym🇰🇿

Naruto

Cosmo

even though the show exaggerates a little bit it still a banger

Ernesto Blanco

I'm still hoping for Band of Brothers

Scinaps

That’s your opinion on it, others, including the geks potentially, enjoy the series

Delane Gill

Y’all just can’t help yourselves being negative

Delane Gill

😂😂😂

Cannon Andrus

Dyatlov only survived cause he kept running away to that bunker to rat on his subordinates. Absolute prick :D

Sean Johnson

As someone who really enjoyed the first season of Dark and eventually dropped it, Dark is bad! (No spoilers ahead but generally talking about how I felt about the show's story without specifics, using words like theme/climax etc. Read if you don't mind that.) The climax of the entire first act/segment of the story, so much well built suspence, all leads to a complete nonsensical thing... that just puts water on the entire story and world. Just to drag it out/pad it... and if I had to guess (cuz I dropped it a few episodes after the thing/climax/filler) it would circle back and all that would just be filler in the end. Completely ruins the show imo and not worth watching. A great suspence based story needs at least a decent climax. Steins Gate is a masterpiece of what Dark fails to be.

Ali

Saltburn was a sick movie - totally agree Brig

Sean Johnson

And that's your opinion bro. Cool. Me & thouands of other people believe Dark is an A++ show & are advocating for it, simple.

BRO.

WOOOOOOW THANK YOU. YOU GET IT INFACT THE DARK IS THE MOST DUMB SHOW I HAVE WATCHED PERIODT

Alex

Grace

Severance I agree. Such a good show!

Elain

I hope Dark is next. the after episode discussions gonna go crazy

LupusRex69

Dude Man McGee

😭

hayden 💟

I've seen ads for it on Max a bunch, but never watched. But you're here, commenting on the Chernobyl vid, so you've obviously made some good choices and I'm gonna trust you on this one and finally check it out

Deirdre

Another good short series is “the outsider “ on hbo 9/10 💯

MateoP

I skip the puppy scene every time since the second time. I don't need to see that again.

DudeTrue

Anyone who actually likes that movie is weird to me

Nanashi

A_Daddy Daichi

Euphemia Isobel

Hell no... freaky ahh movie! Lmaooooooo

Clegane (GOT Season 1-8 enjoyer)

General Tarakanov/Ralph Ineson has such a good voice. I can't help but think of Cid from FF16 whenever he's talking though

Nick K

Here's a reddit post with the lyrics from the folk song animal control guy was singing: https://www.reddit.com/r/ChernobylTV/comments/btvfe3/chorniy_voron_black_raven_the_song_in_episode_4_w/

Scinaps

I hope everyone is aware that in our current time just 300 miles from Chernobyl is a nuclear power plant Zaporozhye in Ukraine. It is the largest nuclear power plant in all of Europe. With the current state of affairs between Ukraine and Russia there have been several dangerous incidents nearby it that have been cause for huge concern. At some point there was even a case of a large caliber bullet piercing the outer wall of one of the reactors and an artillery shell hit a transformer near another reactor. Watching this show with that in mind is giving me horror. You can read about the power plant and mentioned incidents yourself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia_Nuclear_Power_Plant

Mysterious Figure

Thank you for the episode Geks. I'm no expert at all. Maybe someone else mentioned it in the comments, but my understanding of why they didn't destroy the building is that there is still 3 other cores/reactors in the Chernobyl facility. So it would be a bad idea to blow those reactor open with the building collapsing.

NARUTOOO

It was in cod 4. “50,000 people used to live here, now it’s a ghost town”

Christmas came early

Agent September 🏴‍☠️

"Doesn't matter where its from you gotta do something." (20min in) Tech was highly secretive at the time and with the cold war any technology or prototypes on either side were kept secret to avoid backward engineering and discovery of weak spots/methods.

Scinaps

Saltburn reaction when

Mobcujoh

That’s tragic 😢

psychotichonda

I'll take the 3 back to back to back pls

Nanashi

Did i do something bad? If so sorry

Jacob Goldsmith

Why u do dis😭

Nanashi

The scene where we follow the guy going out on the roof is the best scene in the show. Sad, gut wrenching, stakes incredibly high and gives me anxiety.

Nanashi

To answer Brig’s question as to why they didn’t destroy the rest of the building: Destroying the plant could have stirred up radioactive materials and spread contamination further, posing a grave danger to cleanup workers, the surrounding region, and potentially go beyond the current contamination zone.

Mason Schutz

talk NO jitsu

PST3

This episode has me excited to play Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl when it finally comes out. Same dark vibes

Scinaps

amen ty for the quick reply

Jacob Goldsmith

Lalisa Truong

Joydan Bri’an

You guys seem young, but in the original Modern Warfare 2 there is a mission that takes place in abandoned chernobyl. I'm sure someone has already pointed this out.

Dang it, McKay! I'm trying to cut out junk food/snacks and that particular brand of kettle corn is my absolute favorite. Gah!! lol
