Idk y’all need to let people actively grieve the show… Carter and the rest of the guys are allowed to feel a type of way with how poorly the last seasons were handled. As I watched S7, one of my biggest gripes (which transferred over to S8) was the pacing. Not to mention the dialogue. We all went through it, and at the end of the day I think the fact that the guys get so many people commenting on a day to day basis on their reactions specifically for this show, shows how much of an impact GOT had on our generation and pop culture in general. It’s still a fan favorite for A LOT of us. I hated the ending but I still love the show to this day. It’s a conundrum and I’m sure by the end of this the guys will also feel the same way.

You might notice that a big difference in the dragon riding between GOT and HOtD is that Daenerys doesn’t have a saddle. Where the GOT story left off in the books, Daenerys has just started to ride Drogon. He had picked her up and flown off with her from the fighting arena. She also had not yet met Tyrion, who has just made his way to Slaver’s Bay. Tyrion is also portrayed in the books as one of the few people who has studied the rare books that discuss dragons. So if we do get the next book in the series, it is widely believed that Tyrion will help Daenerys learn how to control her dragons better, and that he will probably devise a saddle for her, in a call back to his devising a saddle for Bran. Seeing Tyrion watch Daenerys on dragon back during this skirmish made me think about this detail. As many people often complained about how difficult it would be for Daenerys to ride Drogon by simply clinging to his back. I agree with you guys about Bronn having huge plot armor in the show. His story in the books is quite different. He isn’t Jamie’s constant sidekick in the books. in fact, he doesn’t play that role at all. But he does have an intriguing side story in the books which does have its impact on King’s Landing and Cersei’s story.

I could see someone enjoying season 7 of GoT more because its fast paced and you get a lot of super well done fanservice (like the battle this episode) for characters and plotlines you're already invested because of the previous seasons. BUT, HotD season 2 is still objectively way better written than season 7 of GoT, even though it was far from perfect. Problem with HotD was that they dragged out certain plotlines that could've been condensed and then we didn't get any payoff because it was cut to 8 episodes last minute. I think once the show is completed season 2 will be a lot better if you binge it through (assuming they don't completely fumble these next seasons)

Carter is being a downer for no reason. Arya has +3 Sekiro stat and Mikiri Counter, while Brienne has -5 speed buff due to heavy armor and Berserker class. Needle also has +10 legendary status, while Oathkeeper only has +5. So it makes sense why Needle can parry Oathkeeper, not sure what the problem is.

What about all her training with the waif who was a faceless assassin? She trained constantly before she lost her vision and even after. That counts for something. Especially since Brianne isn't going to go all out against a stark girl. She did 1 kick and felt bad, she wouldn't have punched or Smack her around like she did with pod. It looks weird Arya fighting with her thin needle but she's mostly deflecting and using Briannes weight/strength against her.

Cannon, Viserys was indeed a good king but he did have good advicers. Otto might be a rat but he was smart and gave good advices to rule. The concil helpt to rule a lot Viserys had flaws ( he was more into books and the past than everything else) and to me he did make political mistakes (like having 3 sons for heirs and thinking nothing would go wrong if he just ignore then. He could have married Rhaenyra and Aegon for example. It’s weird but it prevents conflicts for the people and for their dynasty)

Its like is what I'm watching awful or even bad? - absolutely not; some parts are even peak like the end of the episode, but god damn, these were the times we prayed for back in the day, so every bit of canned dialogue or teleportation trope, or trivialised battle, just hits that much harder as you slowly realise your not going to get the payoff you expected. Arya has been getting lessons throughout the series: Survival lessons, fighting lessons, arrow shooting lessons. In S1 Ep 1 she was already a better archer than Bran, and she learned more archery lessons from one of the guys in the Brotherhood without banners. When she was with The Hound, we saw her practicing and doing one handed flips. Not saying she was better than Brienne, but neither of them was trying to actually kill the other. I've watched dozens of people react to this particular episode. I've never seen anyone look depressed afterwards until now. But at least Carter enjoyed the dragon battle scene.

When the early parts of the show pride itself on its patience with storytelling, Davos travelling from dragonstone to kings landing and to the wall in one episode is extremely jarring especially since no other significant events happen in the other storyline’s while Davos makes this 2 month trip

I feel like this episode really starts to show how consequences start to matter less in the show. GRRM's writing was pretty unforgiving. There were real life or death consequences for main characters. Here it's just sort of wishwashy. Also, the shortening of time with travel starts to show to an incredible degree because it no longer takes any time to get any messages anywhere. You might as well have a fast-travel system in world by this point. The show has become spectacle- but for me, once the initial drama of it wears off, it feels very hollow.

Honestly, the last time they saw each other was when Ned was beheaded. It was years ago and they had a terse relationship as siblings growing up because they were polar opposites- one wanted to fight with the boys, one wanted to be the classic Lady. After both of them had gone through their respective hells and fought hard to get home, I'm not entirely surprised that they don't just have this easy-going conversation. Arya has probably heard about Sansa's marriages/rumors and Sansa thought Arya was straight up dead. Arya coming back to find her sister the Lady of Winterfell and Sansa finding out that Arya was even alive meant that they both had a bunch happen to them that the other is unaware about. But how do you even start that conversation about what happened? Does Arya just start it off by listing the people she has killed and hope Sansa is like "oh neat, cool", after she had grown up not liking Arya's warrior-esque side? Does Sansa talk to Arya about how she married the son of a man who killed their brother? Or how she was siding with Joffrey during Ned's imprisonment (Though she was heavily manipulated)? I think their awkward but somewhat sweet reunion was spot on for how siblings who weren't that close and haven't seen each other in years, not knowing what horrors they have gone through or committed, and just confusion on how they came back to be reunited in the first place. That is just me though- I can seriously see why people didn't like the reunion, but I never expected Sansa and Arya to have an overly affectionate sister moment.

I definitely agree that the show was never going to be able to deliver the same level of writing as GRRM without the source material being finished. But now that I think about it more, I feel like the devolution of some of the characters is another hindrance. The change in personality of some characters like Sansa being more bitter and standoffish and Arya being like a robot half the time make them less likeable. And then the dumbing down of some other characters like Tyrion and Jon (in some instances), without exposing anything else to come, is painful to watch. Like Mitch said above, there's a lack of consequences now that ruins the integrity of the show. Jon lost his cool in BotB and made a lot of mistakes but still came out on top. Cersei blows up the Sept and killed the beloved queen and there's no backlash from the smallfolk, who rioted back in season 2. All the things that made the early seasons so great such as attention to detail and character development and interactions are lost in the later seasons. That being said, GoT is still my favorite live action show hands down. I'll probably rewatch seasons 1-6 again one day, maybe 7. I hope the books get finished too

The expectations for these final seasons were so high, but without GRRM’s writing, they had to do what they could, but it was never going to be on the same level and they did fumble. The battle, if you can even call it that, is great this episode. The issues with the later seasons fall with the character development, dialogue, logic, and pacing. There are a lot of narrative decisions that are just unbelievably terrible, but there are some amazing moments. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that season 7 is even worse on this rewatch and the episodes I was concerned about were 5-7, I haven’t watched season 7 in 3 years but the thought of going back to ep 5-7 is just painful. From here on out this is where the true downfall of got happens

Negatives Cersei: the iron bank guy in the last episode was extremely skeptical of Cersei being able to pay off the outstanding debt to the iron bank but as soon as he heard they might be able to pay it off he gets excited about providing more money. As an accountant I know that this is not how banks work, if you are an individual who struggles to pay off your debts in a timely manner the bank does not want to deal with you so this jarring switch up is just awful. Bran: why did little finger tell bran he didn’t know who the dagger belonged to, in season 1 he said it was his but lost it to Tyrion in a bet, this story would have still worked in this scenario, changing his story doesn’t make sense. Bran literally repeats littleinfgers famous line to him and little finger looks very shook up about this but for some reason despite now knowing that bran is dangerous decides to stay in winterfell. It’s unknown whether or not little finger knows of brans powers but the fact that bran knows his quote should logically freak out one of the smartest men in Westeros enough to leave winterfell with the vale army. The fact little finger stays in winterfell is beyond mind boggling. I also hate brans story overall and never cared much for meera but still hate how bran treated her in this scene, I don’t care how far gone he is, dumb and dumber should have treated this scene with more care. Farewell meera. Arya: first things first, it takes Arya 2-3 episodes to travel back to winterfell once she decides to go home, but somehow Jon was able to travel to dragonstone in less than 5 minutes while Arya was travelling a shorter distance. This is a very obvious miscarriage of the teleportation that this season suffers from that I never hear anyone bring up. Why do we get about 5 minutes of screen time with these dumb guards, it feels like unnecessary padding to get the episode runtime. The Sansa Arya reunion is completely devoid of any emotion in it, I’ll always stand by Jon and Sansa’s reunion being the strongest in the show. Why didn’t Sansa mention to Arya that rickon died? Didn’t they bury him next to Ned, why isn’t rickon brought up by anyone ever??? He’s their brother but for some reason none of them care to bring it up?? Terrible When the sisters go to meet bran, Sansa tells Arya bran has visions but for some reason Arya just takes this news as just another days worth of news, no big deal, why isn’t she more shocked? Jon: I hate this scene, Jon apparently finds paintings of the children of the forest as well as the white walkers, it’s already been memed that Jon might have drawn all this to convince Dany of his story. However what I hate is the fact that stannis and his entire army lived on dragonstone for years I think and not a single person ever discovered this cave or the paintings inside it? Are we really supposed to believe that? Also David and Dan say this, I’m paraphrasing, “spiral patterns have mystical significance in our world and although we don’t know what they mean it makes sense that it would be the same spiral patterns in this world”………… this is their explanation for the drawings, I hate everything about that. Also Jon and Dany romance is blossoming after maybe 5 minutes talking to each other, the contrived way that they are forcing this love is just terrible and I hate it, at least try to make it realistic, but no we don’t have many episodes left so need to rush things. Tyrion: once again, tyrions idiocy has resulted in complete failure for Dany. In 3 episodes they have lost the dornish, the Greyjoys and the Tyrell army’s. how is Tyrion not been fired by now. The forced nature of Dany losing her support when she could literally burn the red keep in the blink of an eye is so contrived to add stakes that just feel artificial. Tyrion says to call greyworm and the unsullied back but considering that the iron fleet arrived at casterly rock it’s very likely that greyworm has died… although he might be able to live if he’s able to find a teleporter to bring him back to dragonstone unscathed. Also Tyrion says “we still have enough ships to carry the Dothraki to the mainland…… what???? Yaras ships are all gone after euron destroyed them and the unsullied have lost all their ships after euron destroyed them too. There is literally a wide shot of the ocean they are standing next to and we don’t see any other ships anywhere, where are the extra ships that you apparently have Tyrion? Remember in season 6 that the sons of the harpy destroyed danys ships offscreen which was the lazy setup for Theon and yara to give their ships. Therefore with all of that being said we can conclude that Dany has no more ships currently on hand……… oh wait I forgot that dumb and dumber can just invent something into the story to make the story progress even though it is impossible and doesn’t make any sense to just create ships out of thin air. I absolutely despise this scene and was yelling at the screen “WHERE ARE ALL THE SHIPS TYRION” when I first saw it Dany says she is ready to attack the red keep but again Tyrion for some reason tries to stop this because apparently thousands of innocents will inherently die even if Dany just attacks the red keep. Tyrion is flat out stupid and I hate what he has become. Arya: she has not trained with a sword since season 1 when she was a little girl, at that age swordplay is more for technique and footwork rather than strength. She has not combat trained with a sword since then at all. She didn’t train against opponents from season 2-5. In season 6 she has a training montage which is probably a day or two but somehow becomes a master with sticks (still not a sword), remember when she hid needle behind rocks, it stayed there for about 15 episodes. Overall Arya has probably had only a few months in her life trained with a sword and the majority of that was when she was a child so that does not prepare her for a fight against brienne. I also hate cringey call backs for fan service “who taught you how to do that”, “no one”…. Oooooohhhh she said the thing 🤮 Jon: Davos brings up that Jon has been staring at danys tits even though he always stands behind Jon and can’t see what Jon is looking at. He also wasn’t in the cave with them so wouldn’t have seen Jon touch her etc. This is another scene that is completely contrived to force the Jon and Dany romance, they met one episode ago but dumb and dumber need to rush the plot to get to the finish line no matter how illogical it is. I also dislike the scene with missandei as it just seems weird that missandei is standing outside in the middle of nowhere, this feels like dumb and dumber forcing another scene to get missandei thoughts on Dany just for Jon to see Dany in a different light, again very artificial. Battle: Randyl tells Jaime that the gold has made its way to kings landing which makes no sense time wise, it is the exact same day that they took highgarden and somehow the gold in the wagons was able to travel about 1000km and also send randyl the message in that exact same time? How did he hear of this, did he get a raven or did someone teleport from kings landing back to highgarden to tell this info. They made another cock joke with dickon, do dumb and dumber have no other comedic options? The Dothraki attack from the west of the Lannister army even though dragonstone is to the east, god this show is falling apart, how did Dany get the entire Dothraki to highgarden when as I mentioned above there are no ships left to bring them, did the Dothraki and their horses swim or something? Oh wait maybe they teleported like everything else this season. Why the hell is Dany burning the food when the whole point of this attack was to gain the food??? Bronn makes it to the scorpion and for some reason it was already loaded, why would a lethal weapon be loaded for attack when your army is simply travelling? Wouldn’t you load it only when and if a battle happens. Tyrion constantly mentioned how Dany needs to avoid risking her life in battle but he doesn’t follow his own advice as for some reason Tyrion turns up to the battle and serves absolutely no purpose in the battle, why is he here? How did he get here since they have no ships left. How did bronn survive the dragon fire? Plot armour I guess. Jaime is a flat out idiot for attacking Dany and drogon with a spear. I don’t care how cool it is bronn should not have been able to save Jaime given that both their horses were moving in the same direction. Also given how Jaime and bronn were wearing armour they are now dead as it is impossible to swim with armour on after going so deep. RIP Jaime and Bronn. Also the lake Jaime falls into becomes extremely deep all of a sudden considering the distance Jaime and bronn jumped wouldn’t make that lake as deep as it shows it to be when Jaime was riding on the edge of the lake a minute ago. Terrible episode saved by the epic action at the end

For me the main theme that sums up the downfall of the later seasons is “Consequences”. They’re are no consequences for any actions in the newer seasons where as in season one Ned makes a single mistake and is imprisoned for it. Robb makes one mistake and gets his family slaughtered. Compare this to the BOTB Jon literally falls right into Ramsey trap and makes every mistake in the book with zero consequences. He would’ve died without question if that battle happened in seasons 1-4 but alas.

I think in the beginning of the last episode, when Carter said it feels more like a tv show now is 100% spot on. The earlier seasons are very immersive whereas now it feels more like a spectacle. The characters were more grounded perhaps - idk it's kind of hard to explain. The dialogue has taken a drop off too. The set pieces, cinematography and music have all been top notch though in the later seasons though.

This season suffers most with character and plot writing, as both are very rushed. When you have watched the whole show before, it also makes a difference. They wrapped up “og” Naruto pre time-skip a couple weeks ago and Carter gave it a 7/10 saying he liked the ideas/themes but the slow pacing was his main issue which is typical for older battle shonens. Cannon & Jack gave og Naruto around an 8.5. Think Jack might have scored it a bit higher (8.8). McKay & Brig are the ones who have already watched all of Naruto & they both gave it around an 8.5 aswell so yeah as you can tell Carter did not enjoy Og Naruto as much as the other Geks. Shippuden (the part of the show they’re about to begin is what ultimately makes Naruto objectively speaking one of the most popular ani-manga of all time, subjectively speaking one of the greatest ani-manga oat & Japans #1 voted anime of the previous decade so I would still recommend watching it even if the geks reviews make you a little hesitant.

Brienne’s got years of training, no doubt, but Arya’s whole journey wasn’t just about formal sword training, it’s about survival and adapting to her terrible circumstances. Syrio taught her to be quick and smart, focusing on reading her opponents and using her size as an advantage, not just brute force. And remember, even in the first episode, Arya outshoots Bran with a bow and arrow. That moment was not random, it shows how quickly she catches on and how she is not like the average girl in this verse. Bran actually gets mad because he can’t accept a girl being better at something, but that scene sets the tone for Arya’s whole arc. Her fight with Brienne was kind of a test to see where she stood in the hierarchy of swordsmen in the GoT world. Brienne took her lightly at first, but when she realized Arya was serious, she gave her more respect, and they drew. The only reason it ended in a draw was because Arya used her size and honed senses against Brienne, not because she was a better swordsman. Arya’s not about brute strength. She fights smart. Also, let’s be real, they were never gonna give us training montages like it’s the Rocky movie. A lot of Arya’s progress happens offscreen, and that’s acceptable and should be obvious. We don’t need to see every second of her journey to know she’s evolved. She also learned a lot from the Hound, not just in combat but in how to be ruthless and pragmatic. That shaped her as much as any sword training would. And with Waif Arya wasn’t just learning to fight. She picked up stealth, poison, and assassin skills that go beyond basic swordsmanship. The blind training? It wasn’t about being a better swordsman, it was about sharpening her other senses. For someone like Arya, that’s a big deal. And let’s face it, GoT was never super realistic with combat, but Aryas story was about becoming more than just another warrior. As for the 'Ls,' I was just sayin’ some of your arguments feel more like nitpicks than actual issues. Personally i absolutely agree with carter in terms of the writing being so disappointing. I also felt like game of thrones until season 5 was like an actual recreation of history. such a complex world with realistic character interactions etc. but after season 5 it just feels so much like any other TV show where the dialogue sounds like reading off a boring script. the pacing is just so rushed as they skip to random scenes with no build up or explanation to how it happened. the season is so filled with fanservice that characters and scenes feel SO unnatural and forced. also arya is just cringe and bran is an npc. the scenes in s7 are incredibly epic tho. writing budget mustve gone into cinematography budget.

Maybe rewatching and watching at the same time isn’t a good idea. Especially 4 and 7 at the same time. A rewatch is much better when you have seen everything then notice the details. Carter's reaction to this episode was my exact reaction to most of season 7 when watching it live back in 2017. Everything feels rushed Stark dialogue is weak People are teleporting from location to location all over Westeros So far, Littlefinger & Tyrion are walking L's who can no longer outsmart a 12 year old Arya is somehow 5x better than she was in Braavos and has turned into the greatest swordfighter who ever lived out of nowhere. Jon's scene with Theon was weird Dany burns all the food and supplies instead of taking them for no reason The visuals and the battle is great. It honestly carries this episode hard - but when the remaining forty minutes of the show is decent at best, it's hard to get as excited as the first seasons where every moment felt engaging. I'm glad that Cannon and Brig is still enjoying it - good for them. I WISH that I did as well. People always act like people who dislike certain seasons are hating just to hate, but no one wants to dislike their favorite shows? Great reactions! I love Arya, and thought her fight with Brienne was pretty cool. I think jackson was right. It was similar to fencing. But, I also get why Carter seems unconvinced that she would be that skilled. It's true she's been training and she does have skill, but she does seemed to have gone up more levels than when we last saw her. I think if they had shown her fight with the Waif and maybe shown her fighting in another scene or two each time with increased skill it would have been more believable. I guess I missed this during my first GoT watch, but I thought Daenrys had burned some of the gold. But, now that I know it's the food that was a dumb move. They could have taken the food. Other than that I thought there was good shots during this battle. Especially the water scene where we see Drogon's reflection. I'm looking forward to the next episode reaction.

As much as I have problems with this ep I can say for certainty that Bronn is absolutely goated and the long shot of him making his way thru the battle is one of my fav in the whole series. That scene mirrors what King Robert said in S1 Ep3 when he talked about the first person he killed. "My horse took an arrow, so I was on foot slogging through the mud. He came running at me , this dumb high-born lad, thinking he could end the rebellion with a single swing of his sword." Drogon took an arrow leaving Dany in the wet sand. when arya trained with serio, she was still ASS, she really didn’t properly train with the hound, and she learned to defend herself from waif who she barely escaped from. In fact, she only survived 4 stab wounds to the stomach because of lady cranes soup💀 the hound is known as one of the best fighters in the 7 kingdoms, and brienne beat him. She is a trained knight who realistically should’ve no diffed arya. The writers are just trying to make arya seem tougher so they made her boring and a master of swords all of the sudden.

No, the size of a projectile does matter if they're traveling at the same or similar velocity. Smaller ballistas (our world's name for scorpions) are going to be firing smaller bolts, which aren't going to cause as much tissue damage if they penetrate. A hit from a reasonable range wouldn't be too difficult on a large target like a dragon, as long as it isn't maneuvering evasively/flying perpendicular. Drogon wasn't very far away and was flying head-on towards Bronn, so he didn't really need to lead his shot much. I doubt the ballistas can fire straight up, so diving from a steeper angle would've been safer. Even in situations where a dragon isn't flying head-on, the ballistas presence can act as a way to keep them back, even if they aren't likely to hit.

I never said it wasn't visually good. Season 7 and 8 are visually much better but at its core, GOT was always liked for the writing and characters and those two were ruined in the last two seasons. Don't get me wrong, season 7 had moments I liked but overall meh. And Carter is definitely noticing the decline in quality bc he's rewatching. Especially, season 4, which is arguably the best season.

i want comment on a couple of things 1. Cannon lol - Viserys was a great person but he was an AWFUL king. he literally did nothing damn near his entire reign so much so he was named 'Viserys the Peaceful" alot of shit that happened in House of the Dragon was his fault starting with how he treated daemon then him remarrying alicent. then his decisions got worse and worse going forward. lol so no he did damn near everything wrong 2. Carter - like i completely understand that the writing is nowhere near at its best and damn near every major resolution you've seen has felt rushed. if you are feeling like this now, its only going to get significantly worse as you continue the show and i hate to think you aren't even going to enjoy any of the cool ass scenes that happen. the rest of this season. (we aren't talking about S8 at all lol) like that Arya scene it was a cool fucking scene and it wasn't like Arya got the better of Brienne either. that ending sequence they would've killed each other. also, it really wasn't "out of nowhere" i mean the last time she saw Brienne was when she defeated the mountain if i remember correctly and Arya has trained and grown quite a bit since then. so she kind of wanted to test her self against her and as others have mentioned she still is no real challenge for her in straight up combat due to the large gap in experience. all that to say, it really kind of sucked seeing carter super bummed out for like 80% of the episode, damn near not even reacting to anything that was going on. like no hate or anything but just try to enjoy the rest of this season for what it is without focusing on how rushed this season is.

Brienne has trained for 20-30 years and one of the greatest swordsman in the world. Arya trained as a child with syrio, these years are more about technique than actual physical combat, her learnings from syrio alone wouldn’t help her against anyone if she kept that training up. When did she train with the hound?? Offscreen She trained for like 1 episode with the waif, maybe 2 episodes if we’re pushing it. Also training blind doesn’t realistically prepare you for combat, if my coach in tennis made me wear a blindfold for a full year to play tennis I wouldn’t improve at all. Though even if it's a sparring (or parrying???) sword, Needle is still a thrusting sword and would not be able to parry a swing from Brienne. People need to realize they're experiencing this show under far different conditions than most of us did. Considering Carter is watching the earlier seasons simultaneously, it makes perfect sense why he's so bummed with this season. Imagine watching peak TV and then going to this right after lol, the discrepancy in the writing and many of the issues in general are going to be far more apparent to him than it wouldve been for most of us on our first watch. Not to mention having the knowledge that season 8 is hated on top of all that, feel like that has to kill a lot of the excitement and anticipation many of us still had when this season dropped.

Just to clarify Brienne and Arya were training. I don’t think Arya would have beaten Brienne in a real 1v1. Aryas doing what syrio taught her: to be small and fast, so Brienne doesn’t expect that. This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. My only criticism of it is Braun's plot armor while operating the scorpion, and there are Dothraki all around him, and not one of them attack him, which makes no sense. Otherwise, I love it.

Whats interesting about the arya plot stuff. Is a few tweaks could fix that whole subplot. The issues are a bit more subtle. If they actually showed her get more kills while training it would make her persona in this season far more fluid. Some issues with the final seasons need a fullblown overhaul but only tiny tweaks for arya.

Syrio only trained Arya for a few months tops. The Hound would have been the one who I'd agree would teach her more about fighting than any other, but we see very little of actual training, more just pointers if I recall. I admit, I recall more of their book relationship than the show, but in the books she's already ruthless and that isn't something that needs taught (in fact her story arch is about how you can lose yourself in revenge and ruthlessness, it isn't glorified like it is in the show). I also think differently about the house of black and white. We see her doing chores, learning to lie, gathering information. When she killed Meryn Trant, she does so by wearing a face and getting the drop on him, like an assassin. She doesn't fight him, and also she is reprimanded for that because that was not her training. We don't see her actually fight until the waif stuff, and even then, beatings aren't training, it's just beatings. Not discounting her training, but again, assassin's aren't fighters, they're killers. The faceless men literally wear faces to get close and get the drop on their marks, avoiding fights altogether.

I agree with Shadow as well with this statement, as a book purist and a Daenerys enjoyer, but what I was criticizing wasn't really HER decision to burn the loot train, but the show runners making that decision. They don't know battle tactics. We really see that in other battles, but we see it here as well, and it was mentioned here as a character decision, not a show runner decision. Again, if it was ever brought up again, especially in a negative way, that would be fine. But it isn't, so we're meant to pretend in the context of the world that it makes sense.

One thing D&D totally messed up with Daenerys is that in the books is clear that even as a Targaryen she's built different. She's suppose to be an antithesis of the Targaryens.

I really am curious how Dany will handle the invasion of Westeros in the books since show Dany is so different from book Dany. I just pray GRRM doesn’t fall into the trap of characters suddenly getting dumb or having plot armor like in the show.

It's less of blaming for bad decisions and praising for good, it's more that the show runners are horrible at battle tactics. This goes for every battle that GRRM didn't hold their hand through. Blaming a character for any stupid and inconsistent battle tactic is not really a 'character decision.' It would be one thing if the burning of the loot train was ever mentioned again, especially in a negative way, but it isn't. It was purely for spectacle.

I second this. The last kingdom is actually the first show i watched in it's entirety after GOT left such a sour taste in my mouth. I hadn't bothered with any show for a while after it because I was so put off by the ending. The Last Kingdom was something I'd heard about before, and I finally took the plunge and I loved it. Dany burned the food because the show runners don't understand battle tactics. Blaming Dany for being 'impulsive' and burning the food when that is a show runners decision is a bit strange. They write for spectacle, not to make sense in the world and story GRRM has crafted. Also, never in 2383829127472730 years would Arya ever beat Brienne. Brienne uses a Valyrian steel long sword. Arya uses needle and a dagger?????? And parries Brienne??????????? Also, Arya has trained for like. 5 years MAX. Brianne has been training nearly her entire life. So stupid. They really just out of no where gas Arya up for no reason, and I fucking HATE it.

To be fair Dany burning the cart line kept her people safe from dragon fire and created a barrier of fire behind the troops where they couldn’t really back up and had to face the horde. And the one she didn’t burn ended up having a weapon that almost killed her. Burning the food definitely hurts tho. But she’s not very custom for preparing for winter and war like that. The battle has a few plot holes/werid tactics in general

Jack is actually right about Arya, she was being weird. I don't know what it was but the acting felt so off. The reunions would've been better if they showed the Stark children missing each other. In the books, they're constantly thinking about each other.
