To answer Cannon's question about why Karasuno can compete in the Spring Tournament, we first need to understand that the Spring Tournament (the upcoming one that will take place in the winter) is a separate tournament from the Interhigh (the one they just competed in and lost to Aoba Johsai in, which is currently ongoing in the summer). Tanaka brought up in episode 25 that the qualifiers for the Spring Tournament start somewhere in September. It is around June-July at the time of their loss. Since the Spring Tournament is a separate competition from the Interhigh, this means that all schools in Japan are eligible for it if they pass in the qualifiers, Karasuno included. They're basically opening a new gateway for the teams to compete on a national level a second time in one academic year. If Karasuno passes the qualifiers, then they get to play in the prefectural playoffs for their prefecture, Miyagi, again. Just like they did for the Interhigh, even though they didn't make it to the finals and win to be a representative of Miyagi(and go to Nationals). Karasuno going to Nationals during the time of the Little Giant thus holds no sway over whether they go again this time. Just because you played there once doesn't mean you automatically get a spot to play in it again. You have to earn your spot. I hope that clears things up a little. Even though Solo Leveling got an anime adaptation, the original manhwa it was adapted from is Korean HAHAHA So names are definitely VERY different and difficult to get the hang of if you're not familiar with Asian languages. I didn’t know there was this OVA😅 and I am surprised because I watched Haikyuu and all the OVAs twice and somehow never watched this one. It was super fun to watch, especially boys playing that video game. I love that Jack and Carter liked the show from the start. On my first watch, I wasn’t really into the show. Seasons 2 and 4 were my favorites overall. But when I rewatched it recently, I fell in love with it. It's very motivating, and it taught me some life lessons. Haikyuu follows the exact same pattern as AOT in terms of popular opinion of the seasons. Season one is consensually the weakest, then fans argue which season is best between season 2 and season 3. Then season 4 is whether the absolute Worst or the absolute Peak of the show. It baffles me that there are people that dont like AOT season 4. and its the same with Haikyuu. The similarity is the break of the status quo. Any brusque changes tend to dissatisfy the fans, that want their show to stay the same way forever.

The gakuran (the black "jacket" thingy) is part of their winter uniform, summer in Japan is rough, so schools have 2 type of uniforms. Noya likes the gakuran so much he just wears it all the time 😂

There are two tournaments to qualify for nationals every year if you win both of them then you would play in 4 tournaments in one year and if you lost both you’d play 2 tournaments. I think in recent years japan has changed its format some but for when haikyuu is based in there's only 2 qualifiers for 2 national tournaments.

The thing about not explaining certain things outside of the games, is that these things are common knowledge in Japan. How the school system works, that usually third years retire from their club after the first semester so they can focus on school, the tournaments set up, all of that doesn't need explaining because "everyone" already knows. For example American shows or movies don't explain their school system either or how their tournaments (season?) work, or whatever else is common knowledge in the US, but not in other countries. Imagine if they did, american people would be like "Why are you explaining this? We know!" Even though people outside the US don't really know…like me lol. It's the same everywhere else, there's no need to explain what's "commonly known".

When i started Haikyuu season 1 got me hooked but with season 2, it got me completely drawn in and fall in love with the show, it's so good. When i think about it, season 1 feels like setting up a lot off things, even though there is a lot of episodes and story. I'm excited to see how you guys feel. So, just some clarifications. First, Oikawa has never been to nationals, until this point. Since Shiratorizawa is an academy, it has everything from elementary school to highschool(not sure about college), so Ushiwaka has been there all his life and has always beaten Oikawa, first when he was in Kitagawa Daichi and then in highschool with Seijoh. Second, the Spring Touranment is played to get to nationals. It will be the same as this one, whoever wins goes to nationals, so no they are not just being invited.

Just wanted to say that I loves your reactions to season 1. It went even better than I had expected. I appreciated the honesty and criticism of the first few episodes while also the hype of the later ones. I like the diversity of opinions on this couch and the fact that schedule stayed fairly consistent throughout the months of uploading. Also I couldn’t NOT mention the amount of hate and negativity in the beginning from the haters. Glad the geks didn’t let that and some preconceived notions stop them from enjoying a great show. Haikyuu has my favorite comment section out of all the shows here for a reason ;) Also from now on everything will only keep getting better. Right up until the end of the whole show (including manga). So yeah you’re in for a great and satisfying ride! I think the reason many say that “slice of life is hard to fumble” when it comes Haikyuu because of how many things it does RIGHT. From the humour, to the introduction of characters, matches, relationships,other teams, animation, pacing etc. Haikyuu is able to do just the right amount and it’s hard to see some of its failings due to how minor they are. The best part is how they managed to make viewers so invested in a sport like Volleyball. Many, just like you did in the beginning, can’t grasp how a show about Volleyball could be this interesting. But Haikyuu manages to construct such interesting and well-thought matches that never feel the same. All the teams and their play style is distinct. And I love Haikyuu for this level of creativity. It achieves the sense of hype that some blockbusters or action animes fail to do. And if you think about it much, that is actually CRAZY

So basically there are three national tournaments for japanese high school volleyball: 1. Interhigh - held in summer (the preliminaries is where karasuno lost to aoba johsai) *One representing team per prefecture unless you're from a big one like tokyo (nekoma's prefecture) *shiratorizawa has been the rep for years and aoba johsai has not beaten them 2. National sports tournament - not mentioned in the show (possibly because there's fewer participating teams here than the other tournaments and karasuno might not be involved) *held in october 3. Spring (Haruko) - from what i've heard this is the bigger tournament among the three. i think they were confusing the tournaments in this episode thinking you get an invite to attend. (im not sure i understood their confusion but i think they still think it’s the same nationals) but basically there are two tournaments held in two different seasons, the spring nationals specifically is held on the orange court. so we still have to go through the qualifiers

Great reactions! Glad you're all still enjoying it. The scene where Kageyama and Hinata are yelling was so powerful. They needed to let out their frustrations. I liked the Nekoma Ova. They're a good team and aside from Aoba Joshai I would say they are a good rival for Karasuno. It's hard to pick a top three because there are so many good characters. Based on season one I would say my top 3 are: 1) Hinata 2) Kageyama 3) Sugawara I feel like Sugawara is underrated. Kageyama may have more of the raw talent, but Suga really brought the teams spirits back up during the Aoba Joshai match. I was a bit dissapointed he didn't get to do a set or two when they played the Iron wall. After those three I would put Tsuki fourth, Daichi at fifth, and Tanka at sixth place I was glad the third years stayed. I get that the one advisor wanted them to focus on their studies and maybe they won't go pro like he said, but it doesn't make volleyball less important to them. They have something to prove and want to restore Karasuno's glory. I'm excited for you guys to start season 2. Also, really liked Brig and Cannon bopping to the music. Haikyu has a good soundtrack. Glad to see they all gave pretty good ratings. It was nice to see McKay voicing his opinion more. Also, laughed when Brig thought they were gonna kiss. Shout out to Jackson for liking it from day 1. I would also put season 1 at a 9.1. I got into the show pretty quickly and it's been fun rewatching it with you guys.

After watching S1, I have regrets on my high school/college life. If I can return back to those precious times, maybe I join sports club or other clubs. I have no sports, and my focus is on academics' side only. I want to feel what they are feeling right now. Enjoyment, fulfillment, the frustration and sadness. Ok so here's the tournaments explained, so the tournament we just played was the inter high qualfier, winner of the qualifier goes to the inter high tournament aka nationals. This time it was Shiratorizawa and no Oikawa has never beaten him and gone to nationals, his last year of junior high they managed to take a set but that's it. Then there's the spring tournament qualifier same concept here winner of the spring tournament qualifier goes to the spring tournament aka nationals aka the orange court aka the stage the little giant fought on. Making it to Nationals is Daichi and the boys dream even though for the second tournament pretty much the only other 3rd years will be those who expect to continue athletics past highschool our boys don't care! To the stage Karasuno has only been too once, were going THERE ONE MORE TIME!

Cannon some of the things that you feel they don't explain is just cultural context. None of the teams get invited to the spring tournament, all schools that have a volleyball club can participate in the prelims, and whoever wins goes to spring tournament aka nationals. Aoba Jousai has never won a single SET against Shiratorizawa in high school. The last 3 years Shiratorizawa has been the Miyagi' representative in the nationals thanks to Ushiwaka. They said this when the guys were checking the news on TV it was a fact the reporter said so it might have gone over your heads 😅 Also, I think if someone had said something about the third years staying would have been a spoiler lol I'm so glad you guys actually enjoy the show, your ratings put a big smile on my face I was surprised with some of them tho. Btw, I believe the thing that Kenma figured out is that if Lev is inconsistent with his jumps, then he's going to set it really high basically forcing Lev to reach the highest point. That way, instead of Lev trying to adjust his jumps to the ball, he can jump as high as possible to reach the ball making it more consistent (it's kills two bird with one stone, it makes it so he can spike the ball and makes it a powerful weapon because he will be able to spike over blocks). That's why he says ''he's like Hinata'' because Hinata is also jumping as high as he can everytime, he doesn't have to worry about adjusting to the ball because he knows Kageyama is just gonna place the ball perfectly for him when they do the freak quicks, so he just jumps as high as possible.

And McKay made a great point when he said he didn’t enjoy the first few episodes but in hindsight they were important for setting everything up. It'll only go up from here, boys and us Haikyu fans are excited to see your journey! My favorite characters this season: 1. Nishinoya (love him to death), 2. That’s why your reactions are great since you have experience with sports and how one thinks. Real special shout out to Brig as he was very attentive to detailes this whole season. In regards to favourite characters, mine are Oikawa, Tsukishima and Kageyama with Hinata are interchangeable for second spot actually. Here is an explanation about the difference of the Inter-High tournament and the Spring Tournament from a Reddit user: Interhigh Preliminaries and Spring High Preliminaries don't lead to the same national tournament, each lead to their own tournament, Interhigh and Spring High/Tournament. There are two national tournaments for high school volleyball in Japan (technically three, but Haikyuu doesn't deal with the third one and the format is completely different). The first to take place is Interhigh in summer, end of July or start of August. The hosting prefecture changes every year and there used to be 56 participating teams. They've been tweaking the format in recent years so the number of teams is somewhat smaller now, I think. The top four teams get seeded in Spring Tournament. Oficially, since there is no third place decider match, both teams are considered third, but for the purpose of seeding, the team that lost to the eventual winner in the semifinals is considered third and the one who lost to the runner-up fourth. If they don't qualify for Spring Tournament, I believe their spot gets raffled off randomly, but I'm not sure. I don't think that's happened in recent years. The other tournament Haikyuu deals with is Spring Tournament. It takes place in January (it used to take place in March, hence the name). It's always hosted by Tokyo Prefecture (unless there are venue repairs or something). There are 52 participating teams. Most prefectures get one representative, there are three that get two due to their size and Tokyo gets three (two for size, one for hosting). Top four teams from Interhigh get the corner seeds in Spring. Spring also doesn't have third place decider matches so the situation is the same as I described for Interhigh. Top four Spring teams are also seeded for the following year's Interhigh. Spring Tournament is generally regarded as more important because teams are stronger and more stable, having played together for the bulk of the year. It's also the last chance for those hoping to go pro to showcase their skills, though there are probably players who get contracts before the tournament as well.

I think you¡re getting things mixed up. Inter High and the Spring Tournament are two separate tournaments. The one in S1 is the Inter High. And since Shiratorizawa won in their prefecture they're going to Nationals for THIS tournament (which is going to happen off-camera) When that's done, then the Spring Tournament starts. Same thing: you have to be the best in your prefecture to get to Nationals again. The difference is that you get to skip some matches if you placed high in the previous tournament (they get seeded)

We appreciate the constructive criticism about the schedule. In case anyone is wondering, Brig got engaged and our tax deadline arrived so we had a ton of stuff that impeded on our schedule. Even with that going on I still was busy doing stuff for the channel from morning until well past midnight every night. We are trying our best and will improve on the communication if/when things occur in the future.

Btw Cannon no one is invited to the spring tournament haha. It’s whoever wins in their prefecture that goes. So because seijoh lost to shiratorizawa (the purple team) they go to the spring tournament because they’re the best in the prefecture

I'm sure people didnt want to give this info since it makes you feel like there's higher stakes if you don't know: So yeah, as you can see it's not the end for the third years yet. There's actually two tournaments every year. The Inter-High and the Spring Tournament. Both have preliminaries and if you win then you get to Nationals. Karasuno just lost this one and Aoba Johsai lost too to Shiratorizawa. Shiratorizawa is gonna represent Miyagi and compete at Nationals (for Inter-High) and is gonna happen off-camera. Now, there's the Spring Tournament which is going to be the focus now. Usually third years just retire here to focus on their future (unless they are really good players/have a good team and have high chances to compete at Nationals again, they intend to go pro or they just don't give a fuck, etc). That's what happened with the guys on Date Tech. But the third years at Karasuno said "nuh-huh" and are trying again. So yeah, NOW it's truly their last tournament in high school.

@Lixien it's what the other members said, but for extra context: Haikyuu is being posted on patreon on Tuesdays and Thursdays usually. On Thursday, something came up for them and some of the anime uploads were be delayed (which is fine) to Friday, but they announced the delay by commenting on an episode of Game of Thrones, which already had like 400+ other comments (which isn’t ideal, because it’s overall really difficult to navigate a comment section like that, and also because some people are here for anime-only, and there are separate tier options for anime-only and live action-only, so it’s likely that some people don’t even have access to that comment). But then Friday came around, the other two anime shows were uploaded, and people were expecting Haikyuu but it never came, and never got an update on another delay either. One of the main reasons for frustration was that the guys were responding/engaging in the comments of the other anime posts while people were asking for an update on the Haikyuu post, so everyone knew they were online/active, and it made the lack of communication a little frustrating.

The guys didn’t upload on Thursday like they usually do and everyone was confused about the situation. One the the guys posted deep in a Patreon chat about watching the OVA on Thursday so only some people knew they’d be late but there was no official announcement about it. Everyone was just frustrated there was no clear communication :(

@lixien they were 2 days late with only the hq reaction and everyone was like upset and worried (you can see this the comment section for the last hq vid) and they weren't communicating anything at all which made people upset because we're paying money for this content. I think that sums it up

Imma just day this here, in the off-chance on of them sees the wall of text: Geks, I really love yall, but I do feel like some things could be handled a little bit better sometimes, and the communication (or lack thereof) is one of those things. Things happen, there’s life outside of patreon/content creation, and I’m sure most people who were frustrated on the last Haikyuu comment section know this, it’s just expected that those things would be communicated, especially when there’s a paid membership involved. And when I say communication, I mean specifically: something easily found on patreon, like an actual post with the information that needs to be communicated (which can be deleted later), or on the description of a newly uploaded post, both things that are often done by other creators - I don’t think it should be posted only on the discord chanel (people shouldn’t have to go elsewhere to get info on *patreon* stuff that should be available on patron). It’s pretty bad to have to go through 300+ comments on the recent post of a totally unrelated show just to try to see if there’s an update for another show - even worse when the update on anime is on a live-action post or vice versa, which is what happened on Thursday, because some people may be on the anime-only or the live action-only tier, and wouldn’t have access to that comment at all. And with the lack of communication/updates going on, seeing you guys responding/engaging in the comments of other posts while plenty of people were waiting/asking for an update on another leaves a pretty bad taste in the mouth. In this case specifically I’m referring to the Haikyuu situation, but I think that should be applied to all shows that are currently part of the schedule, ESPECIALLY as the channel/patreon following grows. It’s common courtesy and shows consideration for members whose expectations were set based on information previously supplied by *you*. I say this out of love FOR REAL, because I love your reactions, have been following for a while, and I only want the channel(s) to keep growing, but I feel like the poor communication is a valid criticism at this point. Love y’all, please don’t take this as hate 🥲
