2024-11-06 08:21:22 +0000 UTCi don’t know if you guys are looking for suggestions for animes to watch in the future or after Code Geass, but i would love you see you react to Made in Abyss. the score is phenomenal, i genuinely think it tops AOT (personally). it has some super dark themes, but from what i’ve seen, you guys really enjoy quality characters and backstories, which are intertwined within. i would classify it as adventure with strong themes of mystery and a deep longing for something beyond. the world building is some of the best i’ve ever seen. the show currently has two seasons and a movie. just putting it out there! i’ve seen over 80 animes, but Made in Abyss is definitely in my top 5.

I like Code Geass, and it's definitely a classic, but Evangelion to me is a masterpiece. But it is what it is. At least I got One Piece, and hopefully Monster soon!!

2024-10-31 04:14:36 +0000 UTCUseless debates about what makes for a legendary show put aside, this show is in my top 5 watches, I've rewatched it several times over the years but I can still make a distinction between my appreciation for it, and it's inherent qualities or shortcomings. Pacing is extremely important because it puts emphasis on moments, it's that which tells you about what's of importance and what's not. Code Geass has the same fast pacing literally all the time. Like the Geks said themselves, them attacking the geass order is treated in a sudden rush, despite the importance of that order all throughout the show, it almost feels like any other Lelouch misadventure despite how meaningful it is in relation to the wider scope of the show. The meaningfulness of what happens is not properly conveyed and we go over it as if it this were any other Lelouch misadventure. It never takes it's time to establish a mood and dramatic moments don't stand out as much as they could. There is also the fact that in general the pay-off also almost immediately succeeds to the setup, not allowing for the audience to desire a resolution. Expectation can barely be met because it doesn't take the time for there to be expectation in the first place. While I do think this adds to the comfiness of the show, I also believe the almost complete absence of any rythm, combined with some writing flaws, prevent the show from being more than just a lot fun and highly entertaining. @Frank Miller There's people of all sorts watching anime. Some random dude expressing an opinion doesn't make it invalidate reality. The first episodes are definitly high-paced.

Don't get me wrong I love this type of shit, heck Evangelion is my favourite anime, but the execution in Code Geass made me feel nothing and came across as cheesy to me. That is MY opinion. It does tie up in the end but for me it's the biggest issue with season 2.

Its about the fast pacing, the amount of information being handed to the viewer, reading the subtitles and looking and what happens on screen and being able to digest all of that at the same time, which is not difficult per se, but The Geks often said themselves that they have a hard time here and there to digest all of that at the same time.

Its well known as a classic for nearly two decades and if we just go by popularity it still is one of the best selling anime of all time. The pacing good be slower, but i have seen reactions of people complaining about the slow pacing especially in the first few episodes, which is completly different from Studio Geks reaction.

The subtitles are not a problem for comprehension if you're not an illiterate, anyone should be able to read these fast enough if they went to school. The show is just extremely fast paced subs or not, it's just how it is.

This being said yeah the extremely rapid pace of the anime is what keeps it from gaining the legendary status. It doesn't know about pacing lol, it's just a rush. Makes some things less impactful but at the same time it's what makes it a comfy show too.

It will get clear in the following episodes as it continues to build up, but theres tons of foreshadowing, build-up or subtle plot points introduced in the episodes before. Sadly you guys always had huge breaks inbetween, which makes you kinda forget about the scenes that are like 20 seconds long that introduce certain things & get fleshed out later on so you kinda thing it happened out of nowhere, but it didnt you know. Other than that the show as never meant to be watched with subtitles, so processing what you see, to read and to actually get the information out of the scene gets kinda difficult. Especially in plot relevant heavy episodes such as these two.

Once it all clicks and you understand the machinations of what's going on, it's very well done. But this is definitely one of those shows that you like and appreciate more on rewatch. It's pacing was also a breath of fresh air from all the long running shounen and shows trying to copy them at the time lol
