Like when they’re sitting on the couch she can only see his ice side and even covers his red hair with her hand when she tells him he can become a hero. I’M SHOOK. It wasn’t just hatred for his dad but subconsciously taking in his mom’s rejection for half of him too.

I can honestly say I think the dub for this show is better up until the end of the 2nd season, maybe into the third. Actual voice acting wise, the sub is amazing, but translation wise, the dub is far superior in the early seasons. Midoriya and shotos lines during the fight are much more palatable in the dub imo. Don't even need a reaction, but I'd recommend at least checking it out in your free time. This episode is fire no matter what tho lmaoo

2025-05-15 17:19:10 +0000 UTCHorikoshi Kohei, the creator of My Hero Academia, cried when watching this episode. It is insane how much this episodes improves upon the source material. The animation, music, voice acting, literally every single thing about the episode is perfect. Also yes, Horikoshi is literally on fire anytime he writes something related to Todoroki. You also just witnessed the GOAT of animation, Yutaka Nakamura, flex his skills here. The technique where debris is drawn like cubes was invented by him and is named the "Yutapon Cube" technique for that reason. He does so many scenes for MHA and especially in the movies he really gets to show-off what he can do. Also, The Todoroki OST is named Kimi no Chikara(Your power), which is what Midoriya says to him so he can activate his quirk. That is also easily my favourite OST in the whole anime.

If it was an accident withe the tea pot then that's one thing, but if she intentionally hurt him then that's terrible. I'm excited for the next drop. It's hard to say who will win overall. Tosoroki and Bakugo are both strong, but Todoroki has been using a lot of power in his attacks. Unless he uses his fire he may be in trouble.

The flashback build up, the music score and the use of impacts frames and speed lines really made this moment peak.

MHA watch order goes (ideally + reasons): Season 2 -> Movie 1: Two Heroes Season 3 -> Season 4 -> Season 5 (Ep 1 to 16) Movie 3: World Heroes' Mission Season 5 (Ep 17 to 25) -> Movie 2: Heroes Rising Season 6 -> Season 7 (Ep 1-4) -> Movie 4: You're Next Season 7 (Ep 5-21) I know this looks super weird, but according to my extensive research, in the canon manga timeline, movie 2 comes before movie 3, but since Studio Bones messed up the order of the arcs in the second half of S5, the events of movie 3 now happens sometime in the middle of S5, while movie 2 happens after S5's ending, even though the studio released the two movies in the opposite order. OR, y'all can watch movie 2 after S5 Ep12, and movie 3 after S5 ends (this is what most reactors do if I'm not wrong, cause there are spoilers in movie 2 that aren't revealed until the middle of S5).

He might be a cinnamon roll but he definitely has some screws loose in his head because there's no way any sane person would jump straight into breaking their fingers multiple times just to win a match. Obv, Izuku's goal is single-minded and he's stubborn, but that doesn't mean everyone will be like him and have no regard for the pain they must go through and the recovery they might have to endure after using full power without hesitation so many times. He's crazy, so Todoroki is right lmfao. This match held more than just a sport festival brawl, it is where a boy saw the pain that another was living in, and saved them at the cost of an amazing opportunity to be recognised by pros despite giving his all as a fledgling hero. It is where wounds were torn open but also soothed, and where Todoroki was able to overcome his hatred for his father for the first time, enough to set aside his thirst for revenge and spite and refocus on his original, ultimate goal: to be a hero. Izuku reminded him of his purpose and brought him back to it, and it makes him both admirable and heroic because his actions helped to save someone who was most likely in a pit of self-loathing and despair.

From the directing to the animation to the emotional points it hit, everything was a masterpiece in storytelling. I remember sweating and sobbing throughout the last scene where they clashed, and You Say Run playing in the background didn't help with the tears either. Some interesting things to note are: - When a young Todoroki is crying in his mother's arms about how he doesn't want to be like Endeavour because he doesn't want to end up bullying (abusing) his mother like he does, his mother comforts him by reminding him of his dream to be a hero. She says "It's okay for YOU to be one", which implies that it's fine for Todoroki to do it because he's not like his dad. - Meanwhile, she strokes the back of his head to soothe him, but her hand only ever touches his right side, the side that he freezes with, which he inherited from her. You'll notice that when she's looking at Todoroki, she only ever touches his right, and completely avoids his left side, which reminds her so much of her abusive husband. - When Todoroki peeks into the kitchen after overhearing his mother's desperate conversation on the phone, only his left side can be seen from where his mother is standing. This is probably the biggest reason why she poured the kettle of boiling water onto his left side, because all she could see was Endeavour, not her son, since he inherited the same eye and hair colour on his left. - In fights, it's not usually ideal for two opponents to clash with their palms facing each other, unless it's a specific move or a certain martial art. For these two, punches would be more appropriate. HOWEVER, you'll see that Todoroki reaches out to Izuku with his palm open while saying "thank you" for helping him realise the importance of recognising and acknowledging himself as an individual. Izuku reciprocates his palm offering when he charges up One For All, which symbolises him accepting Todoroki's gratitude. While they both are vying for the winning spot in this match, they never fail to extend sportsmanship and empathy to each other throughout the fight.

I love how they added a layer to Katsuki's character by showing his respect for Uraraka (albeit in a rather aggressive way) and how he says "What part of her was frail?" Gender doesn't matter to Katsuki. As long as someone is a threat to his dream of becoming the number one hero, he takes them on head on with the sole determination to defeat them. Kaminari (the electricity guy) was essentially underestimating or downplaying Uraraka's efforts and strategies by calling her "such a frail girl", although he probably doesn't mean anything bad by it. But still, it really gives us a glimpse as to why Katsuki is such a beloved character. He doesn't treat girls differently just because society views them as weaker than men, he treats everyone equally mean, which shows that he, at least, is better than a lot of others in terms of the misogynistic views people like to label women with in superhuman society. More than that, he respects and finds her a worthy opponent, because by the end of the fight, he's calling Uraraka by her name instead of the nickname he gave her based on her appearance (round cheeks).

For me, these moments bring on what I can only describe as a sensory overload — in the best way possible. My head goes fuzzy. I feel a surge of adrenaline. I get chills, I tear up, and sometimes I even forget to breathe because I’m so locked in to what’s happening in front of me. When I feel that, I know — by my standards — I’m witnessing the absolute peak of art. Something that taps directly into my raw, instinctive emotions. And I know it will lock itself away in a corner of my brain till the day I die. The climax of this episode is an example of that feeling. Everything aligned perfectly to set the stage for one of the greatest scenes in this anime. The buildup was electric. All of Japan was watching. The short glimpses into Todoroki's past added weight to the story and gave meaning to his actions. Bro got personality issue, just like how Todoroki has mental issues, but there’s a reason why he’s fan favorite. Of course those 3 all have their unique circumstances but isn’t it funny how Deku, the one started without power, is the most mentally stable among them lol? Btw this isn’t clearly stated or confirmed by the author, but there’s suspect that Todoroki may suffer from PTSD from his dad’s abuse. There’s even a scene where AM is disturbed by his way of speech (it’s just hard to pickup on it since there’s no way of translating it). All this is just to further emphasize how he considers Shouto to be tool without his own agency

BUT my GOAT out of the students is Ida. He is just so pure and dependable and everything that a hero is and should be! Of course, my top two of the whole series though are #1 and #2 on the heroes board. The adults are really what make this series for me.

In the dub Deku says, “It’s Your power.” It’s more impactful when you don’t ask “isn’t it?” There’s been several changes in the sub I’ve noticed from before. I was hoping this was changed but it’s all good, still a PEAK episode. One of my favorite things about this show is Allmight and Deku are true heros. In whatever situation they’re in they Always try to save people even at the cost of themselves. As seen here by how Deku “saves” Shoto.

He's worked on everything from Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist to more modern hits like Mob Psycho 100, My Hero and Frieren. He's known for his very clean work, lots of contrasts in camera speed, size, colors and also his use of geometric shapes.

He understands that *being* a hero is more important than being *perceived* as one. He wanted to show up and say “I am here” for both his and All-might’s sake, but he understood that his friend was suffering and needed help. So he sacrificed his goal and chose to be a real hero.

It leans in to the hero genre, it is unabashedly pro-heros, pro-chivalry, etc. It’s not afraid to be sentimental or to emphasize basic moral tenets, etc, and that actually makes it refreshing.

This episode always makes me cry! I was holding my cat, Shoto, and crying into his fur! Also, Shoto’s character design is half his mom and dad, making his identity crisis more visible. His right side is his ice side with white hair and gray eye from his mom while his left is his fire side with red hair and blue eye from his dad. When Shoto’s mom saw him peaking in on her phone conversation the side that she saw was his left side. She grabbed the kettle thinking it was Endeavor. It never said in the anime, but the scar isn’t from a burn. His mom iced it after realizing what she did and basically gave him frostbite. When treating a burn you NEVER use cold only cool water to gradually bring the temp down to prevent scarring.

Enjoy the ride guys, it’s only up from here!! I’m lowkey impatient for next season because if I were to rank all of MHA’s seasons, then season 3 would be in my top 5. Also, Todoroki vs Izuku was definitely the first fight that truly hooked me into the anime.

This is in part a show of him acknowledging her strength, which is pretty big at this point in the story, where he doesnt pay attention to much of anything but himself :)
