Added 2020-02-02 23:18:26 +0000 UTCHey everyone. A few days ago I went to the ER for a critical condition called pneumothorax. The next day, a procedure was done to install a tube in my lung to drain the pocket of air in my thorax which was preventing my left lung from fully inflating. The procedure was successful, and I was discharged from the hospital yesterday afternoon.
I have a bandage that limits my mobility that I have to keep on for the next 2 days, and my physical activity is severely limited for the next 2 weeks, but I don't think any of these things will stop me from being able to get back to drawing. Therefore, I will draft up this month's schedule tomorrow, as well as put up nomination threads for this month's theme, Fit February.
Thank you all for your well wishes and understanding during this medical emergency. I had apparently been living with the condition for the last month, and while I knew something was wrong with me, it wasn't until I got an x-ray last week that my doctor was able to properly diagnose me. I am lucky that it wasn't much worse, but I also have to be careful as there is a chance this could happen to me again. I will have follow-up appointments with a pulmonary doctor in the coming days to make sure everything still looks good. I'm not going to dwell on it too much and focus on recovery and the future. It's great to be back and I'm thankful I can continue doing what I love.

I'm glad you're okay. I hope the follow-up appointments all go well, too.

2020-02-03 02:07:27 +0000 UTCwow - i hope you've been better ever since? the pulmonologist told me there's a 25% chance i could get it again over the next year. not something i really wanted to hear, but it's good to know so i can be safe about it. they said if it did ever happen again, i'll also have to have the surgery.

2020-02-03 01:59:36 +0000 UTCOh hey, welcome to the club! I had a spontaneous pneumothorax back in 2013. In my case, the condition was very rapid onset - mainly due to the fact that I was in a military academy at the time, and physical training tends to accelerate lung collapse. Unfortunately in my case, intubation didn't work due to the severity of the tear, so they had to go in for thoracic surgery. A robot was inside me!
