Heathrow Airport [2nd November, 1980]

–Scott Winters–

He watched as the planes landed and launched off the runway, standing behind the glass of the airport. It was the evening and as was informed to Rothschild ahead of time, he was leaving London.

Things definitely did not go as planned for this trip. He now had a whole other set of memories in his mind. No, that would be wrong. He had already assimilated most of the memories and the rest, they were there somewhere in his subconscious mind, and should be available to him should the need arise.

He met his uncle, he came to know about his mother and father, and who they really were. He saw Dumbledore become more and more active in the British Ministry, something that really went against everything that the Shadow Division here in London was trying to achieve.

His horizon broadened a bit as he realised that mere Archmages were not the ceiling of this world. There, potentially, existed god like beings capable of horrifying even reality warping mutants, like his mother.

Why she named him Scott of all things was beyond him. Considering what he now knew about her life or the love life of most of her versions, it kind of creeped him out that he was named after one of the more recurring love interests of the reality warper.

He sighed, and went back to his seat. His flight was late by an hour and a half, and he was already in the airport two hours before the flight was supposed to take off. He could have commissioned an international portkey but those things were very highly regulated and not to mention very expensive.

The combination of those two things, especially in the current atmosphere in Magical Britain would have a squad of Aurors on him faster than he could say “Hello” because he reckoned that most of the confirmed Death Eaters were using the same method to flee the country, now that the Auror Department was given a hand so free it beggared belief.

He was also sure that Rothschild wanted to maintain as little paper trail about his visit to Britain as possible. If he started throwing around thousands of Galleons for a portkey directly to Manhattan, it would definitely bring undue attention, not just from the Ministry but also from DUmbledore who, he realised recently, was not someone Scott could defeat on his own.

That was a sobering realisation as he experienced the difference between Archmages first hand. The feeling he got from the magical barrier in Godric’s Hollow was beyond anything he had ever experienced. Even beyond the one Archmage, he had fought in America who had swollen to that level by sacrificing hundreds of wizards and thousands of No-Majs.

So, there he was, waiting at the Gate, hoping that the Plane would come early, like a normal No-Maj. He still did not know what to feel about MACUSA’s actions in Britain but he was sure that there was an explanation waiting for him back in the States.

The explanation might not be perfect, in fact, he was certain that it was not going to satisfy him but then again, MACUSA was a democracy and he was not an elected official.

He sighed, again, “What a mess.”

It actually might have been better if he had never known about the whole damned thing. Then again, by the way, Rothschild made it sound, the issue was going to be escalated to him soon enough anyway. He just stumbled upon it, and not in a secretive way.

The person in charge told him everything he knew without even any pressure.

His head lolled back as he groaned in frustration. There were no people with him at the gate, and even the people supposed to man the gate were absent since there was no plane supposed to arrive this early.

He was not hungry, thirsty, or anything that would require him to move about. He had already packed everything into one small suitcase that was already checked. All he had to do now was board the flight and go home.

This whole small trip has been such a rollercoaster that he had no idea how he was going to sit through the multiple, surely very long meetings with Rothschild and probably even with President Seraphina.

Closing his eyes, he expanded his senses, magical ones, and had to raise an eyebrow as he found a larger than average magical signature, probably from an artifact instead of a wizard, coming from right above him.

He looked up and yup, there was a small chandelier that had a small amount of magic in it. He could not decipher its purpose but it was probably to check if any wizard was using magic openly in airports, a place where if things were not locked down immediately, news could spread to many parts of the world and bring about the collapse of the Statute.

He nodded to himself and closed his eyes once more, trying to do something to stave off boredom. According to his memories, the ability he has now was also that of Scott Summers.

It raised some uncomfortable questions in his mind but he would not like to go there at this point in time. It would be…disturbing.

Scott Summers had no magic of his own and the lasers were also not something that could theoretically ever get finished. Summers also could not shoot lasers out of his skin, only his eyes. It was his eyes that gave out first, instead of the laser source.

He wondered if he could somehow do that as well. It would be an awesome trump card, an ability that runs independent of his magic reserves. So far, it consumed magic, and a lot of it, whenever he tried to do high intensity laser runs but maybe, just maybe, he could do it a different way.

If he knew one thing about magic, it was all about imagination and the ability to turn your imagination into reality. What if his previously rigid mindset led to his lasers using his magic as a power source?

What if he could detach that and connect it to whatever source that Summers was using, creating an effectively Archmage level power?

That was….exciting.

Oh, he couldn’t wait till the flight landed. He had so many new ideas to test, that he could not do it here because of that pesky probably magic sensor right above him.

He slumped once more as he realised that, for him to reach the States and begin working on his power, this flight had to arrive first.

Hogwarts

–Albus Dumbledore—

“Where is Harry? And why haven’t I met him yet?” He sighed as Sirius paced in his office and asked him the same question for the Nth time and he answered the same as before.

“Sirius, as I have said, your health is not in a good enough condition that you can take care of Harry. He is in a safe place, trust me. Once I deem you worthy enough to take care–”

“Who are you to decide? Huh?” Sirius gained a dark look in his eyes as he slammed his hands on his table, a 5 centuries old table that was worth more than most nobles had in their vaults.

He peered at Sirius through his spectacles as the clearly unstable man rattled, “Maybe I should go to the Ministry, or even better, go public. Tell them that you are flouting centuries old Family succession laws by withholding Harry’s custody from his legal guardian. Huh, how would you like–”

He wandlessly lifted young Sirius’ prone body and deposited him on the sofa.

It was episodes like these that he could not trust Sirius with Harry’s safety. He was still too raw, too shaken from the event. No stable man could come out of a suicide event after realising that he was the reason his best friends died.

He could not do that to Harry. Lily and James would never forgive him.

So, for both of their sakes, he will have to hide Harry from Sirius.

“I hope you have it in you to forgive me,” He muttered to himself before turning back to the paperwork, an ancient evil that has not yet been bested, even after consulting the combined wisdom and intellect of all the Headmasters that came before him.

Hu, so we have a Sirius that is free, and only the potter boy lives.
