The Tournament of Power: Round 2

There I was:  a barely employable shitposter on a discord server chock full of great artists and writers.  I had somehow managed to get my original character Ris through to the second round, and had no idea of the fresh hell that awaited.  Abbadon, ever the mastermind, had coordinated the prompt of this round with the newest development in the webcomic on the day it was published:  This round was to be a Battle Royale.

Despite this, we were still paired off with opponents and their respective characters with the usual rules for each round: Each comic must be at least 2 pages, AND feature you and your opponents character.  This time, we were also required to make use of the open floor and include at least one crowd shot.  In my infinite wisdom, I decided to make that shot a three page spread with every single OC that was still in the tournament (as well as a few that I snuck in from other IPs or made up on the spot).   Oh yeah, and make it in color too.

The plot on this was a bit harder.  I had been matched against the angelic assassin 69 KeenBlade, a character that Ris could not simply hand-wave away as an unwilling participant.  Besides ratcheting up the action, I wanted to develop the character of Ris and the demon possessing him a bit more, hence the page of green flame.  This was the round where I became really self conscious about being a bad writer, as I was worried I had already settled into a formula for my paneling and action.  As usual, my opponent came out swinging for the fences with an incredible comic (in full color, again, dammit!).

Once again, my fate hung in the balance.  My comic was done, at least, but I had little faith that it would stand in mostly black and white.  Trying to distract myself from the tension, I took to a bit of fan art for a promo.  Keenblade was explicitly described to me as a character that emulates and loves the tropes of shonen manga, Naruto in particular.  That info helped inform both his fighting style in the comic and the subject matter of my promo art:

A recreation of a rather iconic Naruto cover, except with Keenblade himself as the star.

After another tense wait, the results came in.  Ris Zakti had managed to advance to round 3.  Surely this was yet another step of Ris' path to glorious victory?!
